I have one of these in my toolbox from 20years ago when Autozone sold them for $15-$20. The design and tooling is exactly the same. I never took mine apart but I can do it and check to see if the internals are the same as well.

For the future, you want to refuel using a butane bottle upside down. You are releasing more gas than liquid from the side or above. Sometimes a butane lighter will have a clear part you can see the fuel through to help you fill it up properly.
