If any of you are having trouble accessing this boss, it's because the order and location in which you must activate the graves is random per playthrough. Talk to the three climbers upwards and look for key words in order to solve the puzzle and access the boss.
Edit: Enough people have already asked me for help, so if you need help send the statements in order of the place the people got in, so first place, then second place, then third place. I'll try and help however I can
That’s pretty tricky, I’ll go ahead and try that.
For me the first place guy says. There's no way. The others could have caught me. I left em right in the dust
@@seanoshea018 that’s what should happen (Spoilers)

the broken hourglass when you load into the fight. the mysterious environment, with a giant 3d demon skeleton in the background, the music thats way too calm for a boss fight, and unlike any other music in the game. the fact that reality in the fight is changing just based on what direction you look. youre in control, but not in a way youre comfortable with, and it leads to yourself getting hurt more often than not. youre not allowed to look at the being thats supporting you. you can only face the monster thats trying to kill you. the fact that the music doesnt muffle in the game over screen, or restart from the beginning when you restart from the fight, just keeps playing on unhindered the entire time. every aspect of encounter just makes it feel so surreal, eerie, ominous. in reality the fight isnt hard at all once youre used to the cool unique gimmick. its over really fast too. but when youre first experiencing it, it feels so intensely unsettling. like you have no idea what youve gotten yourself into, and its something *very* bad. i love it so much, great work all around
the fight is frame as a dream you can't wake up from at least for the character. it like a trence.

Alright nerd
The fact that The Devil, himself, has a good side to him is both interesting and unsettling at the same time.
Well he was an angel first
What prime said, satan is a fallen angel. So it'd make sense for him to have a good side
@@handlename88 Well, you guys aren’t wrong. Still, I can’t help feeling bad for his good side, knowing he had to come from him.

@@handlename88 not to be that guy but satan was always bad.. if you mean lucifer, he didn’t become satan, he just became a nobody essentially
The most shocking part of this bossfight to me... was the broken hourglass xD

Same, when I saw that I was like “hold up, wtf am I getting myself into 😳”
I like the demon angel mechanic where the demon is always in front of you and the angel is always behind you. The angel's attacks do nothing unlike the demon, so you gotta find the balance of when to switch them. Of course you can take the easy route by using Ms. Chalice's busted invincible roll
smokescreen charm also completely invalidates the firewall
@@bombytetoo yes but it isn't part of a op charm
@@bombytetoo charms are disabled in this fight, so chalice is the only way to have an invincible dash
I try to dodge both types of attacks as they can switch at any time
@@abitoforangutangu3194 I just cleared it with the smokebomb charm on Cuphead
Some people say this is just a dream.
I really dont think it's that hard to believe that cupheads soul was transported to the astril plain.
Or maybe his consciousness could of been transported as well.
oh for sure
@@SP-di5fvGood theory.
Astril plain???
I've seen someone else in the comments suggest this boss might represent "the stage after death whether your soul goes to heaven or hell," which makes sense considering you access this battle via a graveyard. Additionally, this theory might also explain the broken hourglass for the loading screen. When you die, your time's up; your life is over. An hourglass measures time, so it being shattered could easily be symbolic of how at death you run out of time, similar to how clocks in the movie "All Dogs go to Heaven" represent a person's lifespan and stop working when a person dies.
Agree !! Also I've noticed the reference(?) to Charon, the ferryman of the dead, I think represented by the clock-headed character (again a reference to time) at the beginning of the game, who takes us across the river as in mythology (the right side of the riverbank representing the underworld). Well, I don't know if it's directly related to this boss fight but I couldn't help but make the comparison. This is definitely suspicious lol
Honestly, the entire DLC had a little death vibe. Just the fact that Mrs. Chalice is a spirit is enough but Esther Winchester becoming canned meat, the WW2 dog aviators, the chess level beheader and, of course, the final boss background animations (don't wanna spoil too much)
@@xlife.lightx oh yeah. Thats scary now
Is anybody obsessed with the noise of the angels singing attack
@@shufflr1513 loooll I am ????? 😭 The note is so bad tho but I like it
Am I the only one who found this fight to look _very_ creepy?
The weird music, sound effects, the background, EVERYTHING.
The devs really captured those scary moments that cartoons would spout at random
I know im a bit terrifies now
The angel has your *Back* while the devil always con-*Fronts* you..
Not gonna lie, someone could easily write a whole creepypasta from this fight.
Once it becomes more we'll known you know someone will
Shows gonna do it anyways in Season 2
There's nothing creepy about it though.
@@jeyd8194 creepy not in the direct sense (as I assume you'd think of) what OP meant is creepy in a metaphoric way
@@bullettime8760 yup
The angel sing, is kinda terifying,
i definitly think the most unsettling part about this is the stop motion skeleton of the devil in the background cause it's such a stark contrast to what cuphead has been, yeah there have been stopmotion parts in the game but those were mostly used as background scenarios like in the grim matchstick fight this one is just unsettling and that backed with the really eerie music makes this whole fight feel just uncomfortable
I love how much they put into this dlc. This honestly may be the best dlc I’ve ever gotten in a game. So much love and charm put into it. The music for this boss was perfect. The creepy atmosphere as cuphead has to battle his own self conscience while the devils Skeleton is lurking in the background
I think the part about this that sets it apart from other bosses the most is the fact that the music is almost non existent here, or at least not anything like other bosses, making it kinda uncanny

Considering you enter this battle by taking a nap, I feel like this is Cuphead's and Mugman's Nightmare. The Devil terrified the two brothers so much in the base game, so that's how they depict him in their dreams.
hey, are u a furry? not judging im just wondring from ur pfp
Tips for this boss:
Stay in the angel's corner, and only turn around when necessary. Equip chaser, and either twin heart, or smoke dash. Using Chalice is recommended. Any super will work on this boss, but use the super when you have it. This boss took me like ten tries, but after I beat it, I got a special charm. Spoilers!
The broken relic turns into a charm, that randomizes your weapon equipment. It can even give you weapons you don't have yet.
It also has a version that gives you every charm effect at once if you beat the final boss with the 1 hp penalty of the cursed relic
@@Stanfordscienceman not the final boss simply 5 normal bosses and 2 DLC bosses it doesn't matter which ones you do
I actually had no idea about that. Thanks!
The broken charm gets upgraded into the cursed charm. And this charm still isn’t at full power! In order to power it up, you need to go wallop some more foes! Each foe will give a certain amount of points depending on where they are located in, and who it is, with the final DLC bosses, (the devil and the other spoiler guy) give the most with 4! Each point gathered will power it up once you’ve reached a sub threshold. (see the wiki for more info) Once you’ve gathered at least 16 points on the cursed charm from knocking out dem bad guys, it will fully evolve into the divine charm, which is it’s final form.
Broken relic can give you weapons you don't have yet?
Idk about y’all, but this boss really creeped me out. It’s literally the stage after death whether your soul goes to heaven or hell i’m pretty sure. I loved the dlc, it just kinda spooks me lol
Cuphead didn't die to get here
He took a nap
For real huh. The scariest part to me is the angels weird singing, especially with the reverb
@@headphonesdawg because that's how angels accurately sounds like
@@headphonesdawg Exactly, I forgot to mention that too
Along with the freaking shattered hourglass dude in the load screen. I was like "wth" lmao.
I wonder if this could be foreshadowing anything to come in the future. Considering that we see the devil's skeleton in the background, with his hands holding the very vortex that makes up the stage. And knowing that the Devil was at one point an Angel, we can infer that what we do fight is his good and bad sides. I could honestly go on and on about this battle.
i have to admit im interested and would like to hear more, so if you want you can explain more cause im interested lol-
This was originally the scrapped 2nd phase of the devil boss fight, that’s why you see his skeleton there holding up the platform, you can see videos of the unused animation transition from this section of the fight
Decided, I'm going to buy the game along with its DLC, it shows that they put a lot of effort
Primera vez que te veo comentar en un canal gringo

This should have been the final phase in the boss fight with the devil, it would have been perfect since after defeating the giant head that cries it can turn into a skull and give way to this final phase, since it was a bit short to be the final boss, also the pose of the skeleton holding the player in his hands looks like the game over screen against him
bruh the devil is already 3rd hardest boss you wanted him to have another phase??
@DJInferno well, yes, but no.
@@papelhat4265 Maybe at least a secret phase similar to Sally Stageplay or the Root Pack
That would be absolute ass. Too long of a fight.
@@DaneWorms yeah I agree, heck, normal is already the second hardest boss in the game, only behind the robot. I don't think a 5th phase will really add too much.
Did anyone notice the pose the devil is in. With hands holding presumably the entire world cuphead takes place in.
We see the pose at the beginning of the final faze. So it may have lore relevance.
Can you give a timestamp? I don't see it.
@@HereForTheComments Just look at the bottom of the arena. You can fingers extending out from the platform.
It was the unused animation from the beginning of last faze for the devil fight.
@@aydenrozzelle7691 You mean the skeleton?
Wow this is errie. With the "no music" plus the singing when the "angel" sang and the bone head as the backround. This is way more far from any original Cuphead bosses. The way they make a boss like is so epic!!!
what angle?
Right angle?
obtuse angle.
@@alooqualufgh sr for my misspellings its "angel" and yeah the angel who always behind the main character
How about the fact the music is a remix of the first 30 seconds of Admission to Perdition, the Devil's fight music?
This and the TV show makes you wonder how often Cuphead has had these nightmares.
This fight was supposedly the original second phase for the Devil. I think they should’ve kept it in. It would’ve added a lot more spectacle and difficulty to what is supposed to be the final boss. And I always thought it was weird that the Devil only had two phases. Least they gave Saltbaker four.
0:18 Yo the Sand timer is Dead!
I think I have a reason for why the angel side is always facing your back . One of the reasons is that the devil probably had a good side (I highly doubt it) but it was just never shown resulting in the fact that the devil side is always facing the charecter
They always see him bad they never see him good
The devil is a fallen angel
I just realized the stage you fight on is within the Devil skeletons hands! With all his clawed fingers on the perimeter.
I would love if there was some sort of "You didn't think it would be that easy?" moment in whatever the devs have prepared for us next.
The Skeleton in the background looks similar to the Devils to me
im pretty sure it is the devil's and the bosses are the angel and devil of the devil
@@jaspercheng4805 interesting. Maybe the Cuphead show could use these characters
Angle and devil on his shoulders
I think it is the devil's skeleton, not only the shape similarities. But if you take a look of how he's holding this cloudy looking portal, it look almost the same as in his 2nd phase death portrait with his hands holding the cups.
What this were the skeleton went what if the final phase had no skeleton
It seems that The Devil has complete control over the astral plan.
Able to play god there without any consequences.
No wonder chalice wants to get out of there so badly
This takes “face your demons” to a whole new level
There's something about the angel's singing voice that's just so unsettling and I don't know what it is...
It sounds like a ghostly scream
It’s really a neat touch when they use a different animation of the hourglass in the loading screen
The relic you gains from it is worth it as long as you beat all the dlc boss on the island with the item. this becomes the most broken item in the game.
Wait what does it do
fun fact: Did you know that in the background that is in fact the devil, which everyone knows. but what some people don't know is that the pose he is in (which is him holding the platform) is actually similar to the unused animation for the devil!
YOOOOOO I FORGOT ABOUT THAT
This battle would have been much more interesting if the Angel were in the front and the Devil were in the back. The only way you would then be able to damage the Devil is to bounce your projectiles off of the Angel.
There's something in front comforting you, lulling you into a sense of security, while there's an unknwon threat behind you trying to kill you.
Or roundabout, but yeah i get your point. Would have been interesting
boomerang shoots would make that easy
You could only do damage by fighting the angel. Youd feel like a bastard.
True, but this way it makes the angel actually "friendly" and "good", especially in the game over screen where the angel looks pretty sad that you died
What does this mean? 🤔🤔🤔
I know the Devil isn’t dead, he just called truce in the first game so is this inside his head? That’s definitely his skeleton of course and the angel and demon both look like him.
Loving the LORE MDHR is giving us and I’m glad to see the Devil again; he’s the most interesting character to me in both the game and show.
why did king dice only get a puppet cameo ;-;
Cuphead used the power of A-
Wait wrong game.
I truly doubt there’s any deep meaning. I think MHDR just felt like being creepy since the 1930s animation was rife with a ton of creepy imagery. Not to say that the game is any less of a masterpiece, but it’s obvious that the main draw besides the crisply beautiful animation is the gameplay.
@@BonazaiGirl yeah its cuphead ig afterall, its not a super expansive lore-ridden game or etc. its usually just been a p simple story with hardly any hidden lore or whatever
I was looking for a comment like this. This fight is Hella confusing
So worth waiting 4 years! This looks amazing!!!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
In a recent update, when you start the fight, the announcer’s voice becomes distorted! That just adds to the creepiness! I love it!
So when the Devil died he has split up in two opposite entities , it's pretty original considering his nature of Fallen Angel
He didn't die though. He was beaten up in the ending of the base game, but they didn't kill him.
@@CeHee123 maybe they don't, but why there Is his skeleton With two different sides of him as a boss ?
probably just some random devil who died
@@thehugeilmemerdiyoutube2518 not sure, but if the devil died it would be pretty big news, especially since Cuphead and mugman beating the devil up was already pretty big news since the newspaper guy in Inkwell Isle IV knows about it.
@@awesomegun9971 There's only one devil though...
The angel’s singing voice is….. uh… *interesting.*
It gives me chills every time I hear it
Idk why but it kinda sounds like someone shrieking as they fall from a great height
Possible reference to the devil being a fallen angel?
@@ezrastardust3124 Oh now that I listen to it again is sort of does! Interesting.
The whole setting of this boss (it being portrayed as a dream, the abnormalities such as the broken hourglass and the music not stopping or pitching down upon dying and retrying and everything that has been noted in other comments) really drives me to think the battle was designed as a piece of analog horror, as if referencing the tons of stories about "lost/cursed episodes" of old cartoons which deviate this much from their usual styling
Sad that you can't refight the boss after you beat it, but still, awesome nod to the original story!
Actually, there IS a way to re fight this boss!
Stand next to the entrance, and hold L and R. It can also work for the mausoleums!
I'm kinda curious on what this means. Like, did we somehow end up in the Devil's mindscape and these two characters are the two halves of him. Lucifer did use to be an angel (yes, I know some think that this guy is Satan, but I'm calling him Lucifer to simplify things a tad). Maybe we interrupted the two parts of the Devil's psyche from having an argument or something?
I believe it represents death. Since you go there through the graveyard, the big skeleton represents death, and the angel and devil represent heaven and hell. So this is probably us finding our way into deaths limbo where souls are sent to hell or heaven

Matpat in 'bout 3 days:
*Or did he!?*
@@papelhat4265 and when you turn you'll always be facing the devil's side. i wonder if there's a deeper meaning behind or that's just the stage's mechanic
@@Friendstoyourend That doesn't really debunk the theory though, since obviously you can't just drop dead in the middle of the dlc, so what's the next best thing? Sleeping (in a graveyard no less)
If you listen, the background music is a remix of the first 30 seconds of Admission to Perdition, the Devil's fight music. It's a little touch that makes this fight even creepier.
I don’t hear it
@@Ivanb806 You can listen to it separately. Just search on RUclips "One hell of a dream".
There is something so symbolic about how the demon is always the one they see from they perspective and the angel is always behind them. There but out of site.
Im pretty sure this is like the reference of every characters where a demon and an angel appears in their shoulders deciding to choose what path are they choosing.
It's like cuphead facing his demons with his guardian angel
yeh it also happend in every almost cartoon if im wrong
I have a theory that after the cup bros beat the devil he might split into two sides an angel and a demon that's why they're all similar

i doubt it, satan always was an angel

The character designs
The backround
And the platform that looks like the world.
It's literally Heaven,Hell and Death around you.
(Skull=Death
Angel=Heaven
Demon=Hell)
Also the singing of the angel is just...unsettling....
This is actually pretty easy compared to the other bosses in the DLC. It could use more harder phases.
Daresay it's one of the easiest boss fights in the whole game, comparable to carrot and slime from the base game
Yeah really underwhelming it definitely should have had one more phase maybe near the 60-70% point
Well it was originally just a scrapped phase form the devil boss fight it was never meant to be it’s own thing
0:25 oh so cuphead was also made flat earthers
After watching the show, I can imagine cuphead waking from this and screaming " I AIN'T TO WORRIED ABOUT IT"
I like that the song is a version of Admission to Perdition, the first song of the Devil’s fight
I feel that this boss fight has a meaning I just can’t put my finger on it.
That boss: *Exist.*
Cuphead and Mugman: Here we go again.
What scares me the most is not just the implications about the Devil and his 2 sides during the fight, it’s that this fight is kind of like a parallel to the main game Devil fight. You can even hear his theme slightly in the back.
I now see the correlation to the original devil bossfight
It looks like it was originally planned as a "secret boss fight " after the devil fight if certain requirements meet .
God. The way his corpse just stares ahead. The bones of the devil staring empty sockets down, neither smiling nor frowning, apathetic and tired. An old, old thing. A dimension more than yourself, more alive, more aware, not real, but a step closer than you to it. It holds you up, water slipping through fingers once firm, through hands once divine, once infernal, once alive.
A celestial play of tragic end, *what more do you have to take from me?*

That angel “sing” is fucking terrifying
Agreed
I have a theory that it’s actually the devil screaming when he fell from heaven
I love this boss. It's creepy, it's a rewarding for the puzzle and it's core mechanic (I think) it's a reference to one of my all time favourite games (Ikaruga)
There's no official name for this boss so i decided to name them:
The Souls of Night starring "Andrew" and "Dave".
i called the Angel "Andrew" because it's commonly shortened to "Andy", which is the name of the ANGELfish from Feeding Frenzy.
And i called the Demon "Dave" because well, "Dave" + "L" = "Davel" "Davel" sounds like "Devil" therefore the Demon is called "Dave"
I think this secret boss is cuphead having a nightmare from the original game’s events seeing that he is a child fighting the literally devil and see how it tells you to nap meaning this boss is a nightmare
The platform is literally in the skeleton’s hands.
Originally, this was supposed to be the devil’s second phase in the original Cuphead, but it was scrapped due to time issues.
Glad they brought it back.
Fun fact: there was an unused starting animation for the Devils second phase (go find it), which perfectly fits the skeleton in the background, this is because the Angel and Devil fight was actually supposed to be a phase in the Devil fight but got unused and later readded here.
the pose that the skelleton devil makes in the background was meant to be the original starting pose of the actual devils 2nd fight it would of taken place on his hands
Fun fact: this fight was originally going to be the second phase of the devil's fight if it stayed I believe it would give yhe fight a much harder difficulty
The devil is back, and this is his revenge
I like how at the begging, The little time glass you'd see while loading is shattered.
Yall are popping over the boss but WHO KILLED THE HOURGLASS?!
I'm not sure if anyone noticed this but if you didn't i tell you
At the beginning of this fight the hour glass character at every loading screen is seen broken on the ground most likey dead
I love how they always parry dash through one sides firewalls instead of just turning around
Watched Dunkey play this a few weeks ago so I was ready for it.
That being said, I still think this boss fight is just brilliant because you have to fight your gamer instincts to move around to avoid the attacks.
Best method for me is simply staying on the platform and turning each time the platform reaches each side
The angles voice when it summons the water tower will never not be unsettling to me
I think it sounds nice
Holy shit that's creative
Idk why, but there is something ominous and unsettling about this bossfight, the music gives me weird vibes and the way angel sings when sending the wall like attack
The fact they salvage the entirety of the unused phase 2 of the devil is amazing
Well that's not creepy at all
The creators of the game really didn't held back on the dlc did they XD
They didn't hold back in the core game, either. The bad ending is creepy.
The angel devil boss have a cool design.
Considering this fight takes place in a dream, maybe Cuphead feels guilty for defeating the Devil and this is his inner turmoil? I’m readin too much into it
Also this implies that somewhere in the world there is a real model of the devils skeleton
I don't think Cuphead would feel guilty for defeating the devil
All you need (as Cuphead/Mugman) is to have smoke bomb and crack shot along with boomerang
pro tip, stand on the far left and stay there where the moving platform can't get you and use the cracker or whatever it was called for your bullets. The devil's projectiles are so far away you can just jump over them/duck under them. When the beam comes just look away or don't move depending on who spawned it.
I beat it first try + all health after doing this, and idk if this was luck but every time i had to look away from the devil's beam, the angel was not shooting any projectiles so i had really nothing to hit me.
How are you in this boss with Chalice…? It requires the broken relic…
You can switch out before entering or in the retry menu
@@Vro789 Oh ok nice to know. Thanks.
That's kinda sick ngl!
The skeleton kinda gives me a feeling like that would be this universe’s version of death
This was supposed to be a mechanic Tim the devil fight. That’s why the devil is holding up the arena. He’s the foundation of the idea
That clay devil skeleton is so disturbing as hell
I love the noise angel makes when sending lasers
This feels like a secret boss from one of those Final Mix Kingdom Hearts games.
That awesome

Wow nice
The trick is to talk to the three climbers, they will give key words like "down", "right" or similar, then you try to arrange the order and positions and that's it.
This boss isn’t so secret now, but it has a secret way
The visual design of this fight is so cool. It's a shame there's so much shit happening on the screen that you cannot appreciate it. I didn't even notice the creepy 3D model in the background until the knockout.
Chaser ammo spam + smoke bomb.. All you have to do is dash the storm and cloud by moving left and right. (no need to jump) just smoke dash the cloud, the storm or both if they happen to be going at you at the same time. Occasionally you will have to smoke dodge some projectiles but its rare.
Easy fight!
No one else gonna talk about how the angel's attack looks like praying... Which does nothing lol
