Let it be known that, if the KO results in a death animation that you haven't seen before, it's likely because the fight ends at that phase in simple mode.

Honestly I really like how different some bosses are. I’m guessing the reason why some just die without the other phases is because they transform. The boss like the root pack are different bosses not the same boss like king dice. Another thing. The robo Doctor doesn’t die instantly because you don’t continuously do damage you do damage by destroying the parts.

For those wondering why some of the bosses having losing animations and some don't Cuphead has an easy difficulty where it only plays the first 2 phases. Bosses with Multiple Phases just skip the last one or they skip a phase for beginners or people who aren't good. For example, On Grim's second phase, if you were playing on easy mode, that would be his last phase and it would just show him being dizzy like he is before he is on the 3rd phase like the other difficulties.

At the end of the ribby and croaks fight, I don't ever recall ever seeing that crying animation at the end. Maybe it's from a secret phase we have yet to discover? Edit: My mistake, turns out it's just from simple mode.
Thid made me think of a secret phase for Ribby and Croaks now! Concept: The fight goes normally until phase 2, where if you don’t attack Croaks AT ALL then we get a reference to that one part in the show, where now you only have to fight Ribby since Croaks gets beat up by Ribby, but if you wait long enough AGAIN then Croaks sneak attacks Ribby, then they both start fighting you again but instead Croaks is on the left and Ribby is on the right. “Defeating” Ribby first will get him even angrier. “Defeating” Croaks first will make him lose your trust, then the fight goes as normal but Ribby will have harder attacks to dodge, but the slot machine phase will be gone and the crying animation will be played after the harder phase 2.

I assume it's because the 2nd phase model is stored right there waiting for a phase change. So if the health bar hits zero, its simple difficulty death animation plays, and because the animation reaches high enough, you can see it at the bottom of the screen.
Dr kalhs robot's different parts (Lazer, stomach etc) count as enemies that you can destroy but aren't the boss. Kinda like baroness von bon bons minions or cagneys chomping plants. Thats why unless you destroy all of them your progress bar on the death screen says you didn't make any progress (I saw the original comment on a video of people reacting to them not making any progress.) So that's pretty interesting
on moonshine mob, you can see the snail appear under the anteater's hat near the beginning of that fight, what happens when you one shot him before he puts the hat back on?
Fun fact: When fighting Captain Brineybeard, when transitioning into the last phase and the boat gets huge, you can see him fall into the water in the background
@@BrennoC_YT One hitting them still kills them. As far as I know, the only two things that need to happen for a knockout animation to play are to be on a phase that has an animation (Which on simple mode, there sometimes is) and the boss dies. So the animation would still play.
Goopy not noticing his death is oddly fitting because hear me out he wasn't content with his strength and life so he made a deal and got roided up, and he doesn't notice that his health slowly deteriorating.
What i find cool is that the devs actually made unique animations for some of the bosses, like if they expected people to find a way to beat them in one hit

That would explain why when the game was released, the boss meter of Dr. Khal's robot wouldn't advance if you died on the first phase.
