I've been a kiss fan since 1975. I am now 60. Ace has always been my favorite player in kiss. I'd have to say that his version of hide your heart is definitely my favorite. His solo rocks however the guitar work for the Rhythm portion is very heavy

I wondered why KISS didn't play this on any of the reunion tours where Ace & Paul could have traded verses & it would have been a fun addition to the setlist.

This track has got to be one of the go to’s for me. Great and catchy chorus, great solo from Bruce, and amazing rhythm from Paul. That build up in the rhythm is just great. Amazing vocals too!

To me Kiss' version is by far the best. Paul actually sings it like he was part of the story, like a friend of the protagonists, a witness of the situation. I'd put Bonnie Tyler's in 2nd and Ace's in 3rd.

Bonnie Tyler's album "Hide your heart" /" Notes from America" in 1988 had a lot of songs on it that she put out first but they became hits for others a year or two later. This song was one of them.

Thank you so much for this great video. I turned 22 in 1989 and heard the Kiss version of "Hide Your Heart" a lot, particularly on MTV which had the video in massive daytime rotation. You're right; I *didn't* know there were other versions of this song; that is, until a couple of years ago, when I just happened to come across this information on Wikipedia when I was reading both the Kiss and Desmond Child articles.
Like the song "Crazy Crazy Nights" from the previous album *Crazy Nights,* this song is very poppy, so much so that I didn't want to like it at first. Unlike "Crazy Crazy Nights," however, "Hide Your Heart" actually packs a punch *and* is super-catchy. By the time I saw the video for the third time, it was really growing on me. By my 6th time, I was basically singing along to it. The fact that this is a really good song is undeniable.
I actually played all 5 versions of the song back when I read about them, beginning with the Bonnie Tyler version. My favorite *is* the Kiss version, followed closely behind by Tyler's. Both are great songs that are well-produced, although not overly so. The other versions are good, but not great. Thanks again for this great, informative video!! As soon as I saw it, I immediately tapped on it!! 🤘🏻🐻🤘🏻

I remember seeing that KISS, Ace Frehley and Molly Hatchet’s then current albums all had the same song on there, and had heard that one of them was requested to hold up the release of their album so as to not flood the market with too many versions. As you mentioned, the song does sound very Bon Jovi-ish, as if it were written for a video to be played on MTV. I tend to lean toward Aces' way of doing things because he has his own style and doesn't sound so commercial.

I am not into anyone else's versions, though Ace's was interesting, but no one's versions were anywhere near KISS' version though this video is very interesting to see, and learn about all the different versions. It's crazy. "Hot In The Shade" wasn't one of my favorite KISS albums, though it has a couple great songs, but "Hide Your Heart" really rocked on this album and so did "Boomerang" and "Forever" as well as "Rise To It". I can't believe so many people wanted to record the song "Hide Your Heart" at the same time. Very weird. Haha. That's probably why Paul Stanley dropped the use of Desmond Child after that.

Babs Tarr! She’s a great artist; she was the artist on the Batgirl revamp from a few years ago and she did some PR stuff when Boom first launched those comics.

"Rosie" by Richie Sambora sounds also similar to Hide Your Heart

Regarding the songs sounding like demos, that's because these are the demos. They liked what they had in the demos and polished them up for the album.

I thought you did a very well research into the songs history. I am a big fan of music knowledge and history and didn't know Molly Hachet and Robin Beck did it has well. I saw in an inview Paul say he thought the song would have been bigger if there wasn't five version of out at the same time. I thought he was joking, because I just knew three.

It's well known that KISS didn't immediately find success unlike how you mentioned it. Bill Aucoin (KISS manager at the time) ran up a huge credit card bill funding KISS through the first 3 albums. It wasn't until the Alive album that KISS really took off. That release put them on the map, and then their first three albums started to sell. It was by no means immediate. Today, a band wouldn't get essentially 4 albums to find it's footing. They'd get one, and probably only one to prove their worth.

KISS sold a million albums within 2 years of their first release. I would say that's pretty immediate

I'm curious. You say ace had success with frehley comet. Did he really? As I recall he had maybe 2-3 hit songs. And I think only one was written solely by him. Into the night was a hit for him. And was played in miami Vice I think..But by another singer I don't think he had much writing cred on it.If i'm not mistaken it was written by russ ballard.
So despite the band doing what 2-3 records? I would called it a success

Love the song. I think Ace’s version sounds the grittiest due to his unique voice. and prefer that over the others though you are correct about the weak solo.

I always thought Taylor Dayne did this song too lol. Guess not. Didn't know about the other versions here except Kiss and Molly Hatchet. I did know there was at least one other female fronted version. Possible I heard Beck or Tyler and somehow confused it with Dayne all these years. Tyler...Taylor...🤔
