I use Captain Jack’s Dead Bug Brew every day for 3 days if I discover pests, then follow it with the Bonide granules. I just brought all of my plants in from the screened in porch and treated them all just to be safe, but I’ll do it again before Christmas and then again in February because I find that thrips love to pop up in the early spring and I want to get ahead of them this year!

You do exactly what I do. I've been bringing my plants in from the screened in sunroom/porch for the past 2 weeks finally done today. All sprayed with Capt. Jack's and followed with Bonide granules. And yes, already have on my calendar when their next treatment is with the granules lol!! Capt. Jack's and Bonide granules are the best, I've not had to deal with pests and I don't want to start. Glad to know someone else does this also. 🙂

I had a bad thrip outbreak too. I ordered a ton of beneficial mites to treat my entire collection. After 2 weeks there were hardly any thrips left- I think I saw 2, maybe 3. Then I did the systemic granules, Eight insecticidal spray, and neem oil on every plant. I watered with mosquito bit tea, with azamax added to it. Probably over kill but it’s getting cold here and I can’t take the plants outside to treat them for much longer.
Also, I move my PPP from an east facing window to a west windowed room where it gets super bright indirect light. Since the move it’s put out more even variegation and bigger leaves.

This is exactly what I used on my huge Philodendron Selloum last winter! The Bonide should be used every 8 weeks until you're certain they are gone. I've been using it every 8 weeks since I discovered them. They did come back after the first dose because of their life cycle. I'm going to continue using it a while longer. I used Captain Jacks as well!!! Best luck...

This is a great comment! I don’t think it is entirely necessary. I’ve read that the soap can burn some plant’s leaves so I always rinse off to be careful. I also like to rinse it to get rid of any bugs. But again, not sure it is 100% needed.

I recently got one too. Mine is very small, a baby and it has a baby growing next to it. Anyways, I noticed the thrips larvae when I brought it home. Somehow got rid of those but today I saw the new leaf, which was still supposed to unfurl, had a deformation so I force unfurled. There were a couple of larvae there and I got rid of them. Sprayed it with neem oil and as I did I noticed there was supposed to be another new leaf which hardly even began to form. Should I cut that to make sure there are no thrips in that tiny part of the plant? Would that disrupt the growth process?

I'm dealing with thrips and I have spider mites in my rudsta. I'm using the same granules plus I sprayed down all my plants with Captain Jacks dead bug spray. I wish I knew where they started but alas I don't. My micans took a hard hit and it wasn't until I saw them on my paraiso verde that I realized what was going on. My verrucosum got the spider mites. A double whammy for me.

    • @gwenncoath8941

They say the systemic granules don’t treat spider mites, but I know it does treat thrips. I was told thrips and spider mites like low humidity, but I have found thrips on my plants when the humidity was moderate (50-60%). Thanks for the tip about Captain Jacks, I might try it next time with the systemic granules.

Why not dunk the whole plant in a bucket with soapy water for a few hours? It will reach any crevice. By washing off on the lawn, some thrips will stay around on the grass and still spread in your area.
I use the systemic granules. I just bought also a bottle of liquid systemic by Bayer, same imidacloprid active ingredient. I will water my plants outdoors before bringing them in and also spray them with it a couple of weeks before I bring them in.

How many more times will you treat this plant? Thrips lay their eggs in the flesh of leaves, so new ones will hatch again soon, you need to treat all life stages and this can be a lengthy process.
