Kristian Arnell thank you ! Also when writing I guess you can say your essay into Baylor Idk what to start writing about first. I basically don’t know how to start writing my essay to get in.
i just realised how much easier it is to get into university in australia! i opted to drop out halfway through my senior year (june 2019) due to mental health etc. and i’ve just applied for university starting in June this year and I got in !! even the process is a little easier, like we have all normal exams and assignments (800-1000 word essays on a play, normal math exams which is general not all separate classes like calculus and all those) then your grades are combined on top of one simple test which doesn’t necessarily do much and even with my poor grades i would have gotten an OP8 (our grading effects these, all A’s would maybe get you in the OP 4-1 range) because i did the diploma of business! it’s so interesting to see how different education is!
The different education systems globally are so interesting to compare! I'm glad that you're taking care of your mental health and yay for being accepted!!✨

What’s amazing to me is to find out the significance of extracurricular after going my whole life being told to ace school ... 4.0 with a 4.7/5 weighted .. attended a private school that doesn’t rank (weird) and ended up with a 35 on the act and had 280 community service hours and founded a non profit in the start of my senior year ... yet I didn’t get accepted into schools ranking well below ivy leagues and was denied access to my in state schools honors program. NICE!! student body president and 5x state tournament qualifier for bowling with 2 state championships ... I will most likely end up attending my in-state school and take the near free education but shocking to see who gets excepted and who doesn’t. Congrats 10 months late
Wow! So sorry to hear that. My daughter's stats are near yours with less community service but she almost killed herself with leadership roles (president of this & that) extracurricular & activities 'til the point her sophomore year her plate was sooo full that she was super-stressed with her course workload. After meeting with school counselor she pulled back, learned to balance & ended up with more than 800K in scholarships with 3 being full rides at great schools. Now her little brother is a sophomore. Attends a great private school, has only a couple extracurriculars like track & theatre. However, I'm concerned that he lacks the "needed" leadership roles & extracurricular activities to be competitive despite having great academic "stats." I keep warning him to get more involved at school or its going to hurt him in the college app process.
Getting into good colleges and not even Ivy's or the Top 50 has gotten super-competitive. Many students have outstanding academics now so now you have to bring so much more to the table to compete: tons of APs, leadership roles, extracurriculars, community service plus a super-outstanding essay that stands out from everyone else's & blows admissions away. 😩 I really feel bad at the hoops & ringers students have to go through nowadays to get into an even decent school in spite of having great academics. Not to mention kids are applying now in the 30Ks and up to schools and many acceptance rates are dropping. Hearing out of 32K, 46K, one was even 60K+ applicants but acceptances were 2k, 3K, 5K. 😔 I pray it all works out for you. No matter where you end up, you'll do great. Get involved at your college and personalize your experience and make it your own.
We are only allowed to take 7 classes max for our school. Do you think that is something I should be worried about? Also, I got 2 B's freshmen year, but got all A's last semester for my sophomore year, and was taking AP Calc BC and AP Bio. Are the B's going to be looked at by Ivy's? Also, congrats!! That is amazing achievement!
Taj Gadiraju They’ll take into consideration what your school offers. Don’t stress to much about the things you can’t control. In terms of the B’s, you don’t need perfect grades. Try to show improvement, and focus on getting the best grades possible - especially in classes that are relevant to your major, if you have one.
When I started doing these in my junior year and I thought I was going good but after seeing this video I see that I'm 0.00000001% close to get into any ivy schools.
Amazing! I’m loving your videos. Would you share how you organized your time in high school! You seem to have fully loaded your schedule so I’m interested in hearing what your strategy was for getting it all done!
i feel the same about subject tests lol, i took practice tests but it looks like I won’t get a chance to actually take the real tests and I’m completely fine with that
@@aditi-wn8uz wth 😭 I’ve personally have never token those classes but maybe search up the topics of those classes and watch short videos explaining them like 1 week before school starts but idk 😅 buts that’s pretty impressive taking either or both in 8th grade ! I’m also going to 8th but into honors algebra 1, would you say algebra was hard ?
@@xnva. thank you so much! Well I'm not going to say whether it's easy or hard, because to be honest, that matters on each person and their strengths/weaknesses, but algebra 1 is basically a more advanced version of pre-algebra, it'll include many equations (linear, quadratic, radical, absolute, exponential) and functions + graphing (linear, quadratic, radical, exponential) so if Pre-Algebra was easy, I don't think Algebra 1 would be that much of a challenge either. For me, Algebra 1 wasn't the easiest but it wasn't hard either, I got a A- on the course for both semesters (not meaning to flex sorry if it comes out that way)
@@aditi-wn8uz Thank You for the tips 😊! But was pre algebra like a class that you would only learn the basics to algebra or what ? Or did you learn different things that same year if that makes sense because this year (7th grade) for me as far as I can remember I learned two step equations ,some things about geometry like the formulas for area for different shapes also about radius etc, and like stats and probability. So all different things as you can and not just one certain thing all year. So that’s my question about pre algebra. Sorry if it doesn’t make sense 😬!
Ahh, I’m so inspired by you. 💖 Unfortunately, I’m freaking out a little bit. :( I did zero extracurriculars in my Freshman year (which is ending right now) because my physical exam was out of date and I never knew they were so important, so I never prioritized the clubs as well. My uw GPA is a 3.75 (I had a B first term :,)), while my w one is 4.4. They are offering APUSH and AP BIO next year, while I’m taking Algebra 2 as well, but I’m honestly so stressed out about it because everyone keeps saying about the rigor of AP, and how Bio and History are one of the most challenging ones. I’m not American, I only came in during my middle school (6 grade), so all of that mess at the time made me not worry so much about school, and I never heard about APs until now. I’m working on my discipline, I know time management, I’m just very stressed with everything, the no-extracurricular thing, the ap-classes, the exams, the finals… etc. I’m wondering if I can get back on track. Damn, this is long. Idk why I vented here. 😭 sorry, haha.
Hey don’t worry, you still have the rest of your high school years to get into extracurriculars activities. During the summer try looking up programs or come up with activities you can do. Ap courses are very difficult, if you have a good work schedule you’ll be able to manage them. There are study videos online that can help you too. Don’t stress over your gpa this year, if you show improvement over your high schools years it’ll show that you’re a good student and are able to prosper.
Hi Sofia, thank you so much for watching and don't worry about the rant-I get it! Congrats on finishing freshman year! I have some great news for you, 1) you're only a rising sophomore! which means you have almost three full years to find out ways to get involved in your community that feel most authentic to you. 2) the pandemic has definitely shifted the college admissions landscape and schools are more aware than ever of how major life events (like moving to the US) can impact your applications. 3) BREATH! while college admissions can seem super daunting, at the end of the day if you put in the work (which you're doing) and have faith, then you'll end up at the place best for you. I'm rooting for you!!🤍
I feel kinda bad because i'm not American and here, in Argentina, we don't have that Many options like AP classes and most of the people don't even think about going to Harvard, Yale, Duke those are imposible dreams for us. I'm going to try my best and do all the thing that i can. But i also think that this Will help to the admit office to see how hard Is for us, and to show that i did my best. Maybe just ten people from Argentina got into ivy colleges as MIT, Harvard and Princeton
Oh no, as a rising sophomore who has their eyes set on ivy league (specifically harvard, Princeton, and yale + stanford) this scares me I had a bunch of plans for what I'd be doing in highschool but then covid hit. And my severe social anxiety kept me from really being able to do clubs to begin with, but I'm now on my second year in online school and have no social life and have participated in absolutely 0 extracurricular activities ... Also, I taught myself a language but I've only been in 1 foreign language class and that was in middleschool. and now I only have two years to do more foreign language classes, AP classes, and all these extracurriculars if I want even a chance at these schools :[] I'm transferring to an IB program school or a STEM early college school hopefully for my junior and senior years, but I just know I'll be so overwhelmed when I add all the extracurriculars and clubs and extra-hard classes My scores and grades are high and I've spent most of my life in Honors classes but I don't think they're gonna save me this time. my best bet is a really good essay
Hello! So this year I got a 3.5 GPA but I got 1600 on my sats and I’m working on writing an essay of why I had a “3.5” as well but if I get a 4.0 next year do I have a chance to get into either of these schools? I’m also a full IB student! I’m also president of 4 clubs with over 120 hours of volunteering. Does that help?
Thank you very much for posting this! This was very helpful! I am a parent trying to prepare my kids! Highly impressive! My daughter wants to go to Harvard as well! Great info! You are a star!
okay wow I'm from germany and I'm currently in my masters program at university (for psychology) and all that matters in germany to go to university are highschool grades. I literally only took one extracurricular activity in my life, had pretty good grades in highschool (mostly A's) and bam, i was easily accepted into a renowed university in germany. its crazy how ambitious teens in america have to be early on in life, to get into a good college.
The public local colleges are good and decent but the Ivies have way more funding and connection. You have a 50% chance of getting into a nice local college. It's just that Harvard and Stanford and the like are the creme
Yall shouldn't stress out over having these grades a lot of schools have grade inflation and sometimes a 4.98 gpa just isn't attainable. It kinda shows on the standardized testing part because to get such a high gpa you would have to get high A's in math classes but she only got a 28 on the math portion of the ACT, which indicates grade inflation. My school had grade deflation so even kids who had B's in calc classes ended up with 35s and 36s on math section of ACT or perfect 800 on the SAT. Obviously still a strong applicant applying for humanities but I thought it was worth noting.
I’m in hs right now and tbh if you set a goal at the beginning you can and will succeed. I have 60%s all through 5-8th grade. At the start of high school I set a goa to get straight A’s every class and so far I’m doing it. UofT, Yale, and Upenn are the ones I’m hoping to get into. Harvard is very obtainable as long as you keep those grades up and do extracurriculars.
Columbia is my dream school and I’m literally so sad because I don’t know what extracurricular activities to do or what to do in general this kinda helps but idk what I’m interested in so it’s so hard but congrats ❗️
right when i think i'm smart, i watch this and it humbled me REAL QUICK

Amazing! I’m loving your videos. Would you share how you organized your time in high school! You seem to have fully loaded your schedule so I’m interested in hearing what your strategy was for getting it all done!
Great idea, thank you so much! I will say that I'm still working on my time management skills, but I can certainly share where I am right now✨
classes, activities, and tests, oh my!
haha thanks girl🤪
You're amazingggggggg!
I absolutely love your videos! Thank you thank you!
You are so welcome!💖
i feel the same about subject tests lol, i took practice tests but it looks like I won’t get a chance to actually take the real tests and I’m completely fine with that
Ya I would not stress about subject tests at all, they're definitely not necessary to crafting a successful application☺️
I hope you are so proud of yourself... simply amazing
Amazing! What college will you be attending? All love from Serbia!! (Thats in Europe)
Thank you so much and a commitment video is coming soon!
Thank you!! Incredible!! Congratulations!!
So proud. ❤️
love you❤️
Theres an algebra 3!? I would die. I took algebra 2 last year and am currently taking precalc as a junior
Haha I know all schools don't have it, I think my school does because of the way classes are coded into our grading system😭🤷🏽♀️
is precalc and algebra 2 hard??? I'm taking it next year for 8th grade and I'm so freaking scared-
@@aditi-wn8uz wth 😭 I’ve personally have never token those classes but maybe search up the topics of those classes and watch short videos explaining them like 1 week before school starts but idk 😅 buts that’s pretty impressive taking either or both in 8th grade !
Unfortunately, I’m freaking out a little bit.
Thanks for the video bruh. You are pretty smart 👩🎓
Proud of you!
Thank you so much!
Oh no, as a rising sophomore who has their eyes set on ivy league (specifically harvard, Princeton, and yale + stanford) this scares me
I had a bunch of plans for what I'd be doing in highschool but then covid hit. And my severe social anxiety kept me from really being able to do clubs to begin with, but I'm now on my second year in online school and have no social life and have participated in absolutely 0 extracurricular activities ...
Also, I taught myself a language but I've only been in 1 foreign language class and that was in middleschool. and now I only have two years to do more foreign language classes, AP classes, and all these extracurriculars if I want even a chance at these schools :[] I'm transferring to an IB program school or a STEM early college school hopefully for my junior and senior years, but I just know I'll be so overwhelmed when I add all the extracurriculars and clubs and extra-hard classes
My scores and grades are high and I've spent most of my life in Honors classes but I don't think they're gonna save me this time. my best bet is a really good essay
100%
Thank you very much for posting this! This was very helpful! I am a parent trying to prepare my kids! Highly impressive! My daughter wants to go to Harvard as well! Great info! You are a star!
Thank you so much for watching and the support! I wish your kids the best on their journeys!!
okay wow I'm from germany and I'm currently in my masters program at university (for psychology) and all that matters in germany to go to university are highschool grades.
Her: waitlists, rejections; all that good stuff
Me: wait, what?!
I would like a video on how you listed I your extracurriculars and did your essays!!!
Got it, thank you for the suggestions!
Please make a video about summer programs
Extracurricular advice video up now☺️💕
Can you do a video on like how to get into programs and like earning awards because no one really talks about those things
Of course, thank you for the suggestion💕
Congratulations 😍
Yall shouldn't stress out over having these grades a lot of schools have grade inflation and sometimes a 4.98 gpa just isn't attainable. It kinda shows on the standardized testing part because to get such a high gpa you would have to get high A's in math classes but she only got a 28 on the math portion of the ACT, which indicates grade inflation. My school had grade deflation so even kids who had B's in calc classes ended up with 35s and 36s on math section of ACT or perfect 800 on the SAT. Obviously still a strong applicant applying for humanities but I thought it was worth noting.
Getting into accepted into Harvard and Columbia is my dream and I will be in 9th grade next year.
Harvard is very obtainable as long as you keep those grades up and do extracurriculars.
you go girlll
ayeee thank you💕
Columbia is my dream school and I’m literally so sad because I don’t know what extracurricular activities to do or what to do in general this kinda helps but idk what I’m interested in so it’s so hard but congrats ❗️
I recently uploaded a video with tons of extracurricular advice so definitely check that out and don't give up hope, you've got this!💕☺️
Classes, activities, and tests oh my ❤️, also could you go a little more in depth on the presidential youth conference
you're glowin girl
✨☺️
classes, activities, tests, oh my!! :))
