They have. The Star Labs Starfighter (a Linux laptop) did this with literally the same design last year.

The real question is - can the camera sensor live up to the surface Snapdragon or any of the apple Macbooks?

That's good. I'd rather not have camera at all. I can already use my Android phone as webcam. Now the screen looks better.
