Ha ha, the holy grail of any and all spiffy compliments. But alas, I really am just a keen DIY'er, not quite as meticulous as the one, true ,Trident Warrior restorer aficionado 😬 I hope you guys are well and thank you again for the lovely gift you made for Hudson 🙏🏻☺️
Hi Tri Purbeck Marine for your windlass. They were the only people who seem to specialise in Lofans parts. I have a Lofrans windlass on my boat, vertical axis, not horizontal and the label on the top was damaged slightly when I had the drum re-chromed. New labels were unobtainable I designed and have had some new labels printed. The orange has faded over the summer but I have a spare which might fit yours. John
after completing a major refit of a vagabond 42, in which case i also kept the teak decks, i can honestly say that it was not the most practical choice i made to refurbish them instead of just replacing with glass…i chased small leaks for the price…but they were gorgeous!… great job you’re doing on that beautiful trident!
I agree the outboard mount is not ‘mission critical’, but it is what you see most when sitting at the front of the cockpit - I spent hours last winter lovingly crafting one from scrap iroko and it has brought me great pleasure this season…😊
Great work! Cadoha is looking fantastic. Over the years I’ve been watching you, your skills have grown phenomenally. Gloves though Dom, gloves with the acetone. You don’t want that being absorbed into you. Keep up the good work!
I’ve always used 0000 super fine steel wool to remove rust and clean chrome surfaces without scratching…might also work on S/S steel. Great level of dedication, beautiful work mate. Thank you for sharing your journey.
That TW38 is looking real good, now the moment your on the water again get yourself some baby oil and every now and then just gently wipe the stainless, not stain free bits with a whetted cloth, it seal the pores on the metal surface but first play a lot with your boy.
You can do the refurbish of the lofrans by yourself. It isn't difficult. Also Lofrans has a pretty good service. They have helped me a lot. You can also buy separate parts for that kind of windlass. Also you can find the plans on their website. It's a nice project :) The deck is looking pretty dang spiffy. (sorry Mads for steeling your line ;) )
A really good product for getting old sealants off is Multisolve made by CT-1. It works really well on old silicones and glues. It's very useful for keeping things clean when applying sealants - you can spray it on to dress off the surface.
You are accomplishing a tremendous project solo! I would have used butyl tape for the fittings since everything will be held by through bolts, and needs a sealant rather than glue. Also I was taught to always sand with the grain of the wood . Bon courage !
Nice work Dom, your boat and your family really are a credit to you. I saw a Voyager 38 for sale recently (yep, boat shopping) and thinking of Mads, you and the tribe, I figured I couldn't go through with it as I don't have time to run a youtube channel :D
Dom, your boat is looking amazing mate, great job! 👍⛵️ I know Matt, the previous owner. You guys have done so much work on the boat since you have owned it.Kudos to you mate.
I’ve got one of those in my container, fitted it to my rustler 36, sold boat new owner didn’t want it so I kept it, never wired it up, scratched around the cleat on top, by the chain, remote as well somewhere,
Trust me on this, your before you realise it your wee boy won't be wee for very long. So relax, spend time with him, enjoy it & take an absolute shit ton of photos & videos. My daughter is now almost 11. Feels like yesterday when I 1st held her, it goes that quick, too quick. So never apologise to viewers about delays with video output, trust me, we understand.
Generous with the Sikaflex 🙂 I was corking my boat and an old fisherman came along to see what I was doing. He noted I was using Sikaflex, I asked if that wasn't going to work. He said it will work alright, but the way I was using it, it was going to cost me a fortune. I ended up using roofing bitumen and old hemp rope (not for what you were doing). Fixing up a RIB now, the tubes are off and under repair, it's going to take a while 🙂
Not sure the outboard mount is on the critical path to getting to boat watertight, but oh yes, what a beautiful ‘detail’ that I am absolutely sure will give you a disproportionate amount on joy every time you look at it. And a hidden helper on the hatches? 😵
More worried about getting bits in the teak than your eyes I see tut tut. That would have earned me twenty press-ups back in the day. As for the windlass unless you can find someone to overhaul it like new I would be looking at a new windlass. Easy for me to say as it's not my money, but with some rotating equipment, once you factor in the labour cost and spare bits and bobs it can get frighteningly close to a new one.
Very ambitious amount of Sika 😊 On my boat there’s no Sika or silicone allowed - I only use Tec7, which is better for the environment and a perfect product for boats, since it can cure even under water.
DOM 13:40 u need to wear gloves with acetone, it will go through your skin & be absorbed into your blood....Also dry your skin out removing the natural oils...
You probably already know this - baby oil is by far the best way of cleaning and polishing stainless steel - works a treat!! Enjoying your vlog a lot.
That's a mighty spiffy-looking boat! Good job :)
that’s high praise right here! Good old Mads. Love that you’re supporting other channels!

Same thoughts on the gloves. And on all positive feedback!

Thanks for sharing. It enthuses and energizes !

Woe. A really bloody professional job. Well done you!
Great work Dom, impressive!

LOL. That wire wheel has seen some action fella😁
Outstanding work…Good prep and smart thinking…
Fantastic, thanks for sharing.
Interesting video thank for sharing.keep up the great work 👍
Hi great work Dom , YOUR A LITTLE AHEAD of MADS of sail life , you can tell AVA IS AWAY ,? as he is watching you . 😉👍👍

Nice work, man!
I always run a die down bolts before reassembly less mess less stress and guarantees the treads are good..
I’d preserve the teak deck as much as possible and only sand where is absolutely necessary. Scrub across the grain with pads (avoid using brushes).

Looking good, see in the background the "Southern Queen" restoration has yet to start.

Is he still brokering in Nidri?
@normanboyes4983 yes as far as I know. We haven't been in Nidri for around 6 months though

Top work, it all takes too long, especially when you have a deadline
TBH i'd replace the windlass with new, a service would probably be at least 50% of a replacement.

One thing I've found with metal polish is that it cleans but does not protect, try polishing afterwards with a wax polish.
You can experiment with it on Aluminum also , see if maybe it works...
Hi Dom, re Lofrans the only people I have found are in Norfolk, A R Peachment, helped me a great deal with my windass.

hope the family is ok. Must be tough balancing work, youtube and family. The first year is hard
Re the sikaflex, what are your thoughts re using butyl tape instead? I’ve heard that is better than a silicone based approach?
That amount of Sika is a waste 3/4 will end up the bin

Advice Dom get a patent for your invention before someone nicks it
Same old same old
acetone, wear gloves!
