Great to see all those skills and crafts being saved, when I was a young boy and later a young man I had to give a helping hand turning the churn until my arms had no feeling, I recall 2 times when the churn did not make any butter, both times people had come to visit the house for a short time but had forgotten to give the churn a turn before leaving, That poor donkey turning the churn suffered for a dizzy head, people all around the town said that the donkey had been seen in the pubs drinking, smoking and have the crack
These things were pretty common in Mayo back in the 1990s, the Mayo 5000 was a big one back around 93, I think, marking the 5000th anniversary of the building of the Céide Fields. Westport had/has Covey Week every July, and Castlebar has the Four Day Walks, marking the Races of Castlebar in 1798 and the French march on Castlebar. Belmullet also recently had its 200th anniversary festival. And of course, Ballina has its annual salmon festival, a big draw to the town. Mayo Day was started a few years back, is every 1st May.

You’re probably best off contacting either the Western People newspaper, which is based in Ballina, or Mayo County library (Ivor Hamrock is the local historian there) in Castlebar, which might have the info you’re looking for.
Out of interest, have you ever been there? Because if you have, you’d know that Ballina is chock full of Irish people working in Coca Cola and Hollister, that Ballina Stephenites GAA Club won the Mayo County Championship again this past autumn and that Ballina hosted the Connacht fleadh last summer. In other words, Irish culture is in a pretty good condition up there.

Lovely Irish culture something we definitely need to fight for and not allow it to be pulled from our grasp otherwise it will be gone forever
Muhammad was the most popular name in Galway in 2022. The war is already lost. The leftists opened the gates & the barbarians stormed in.
Recession is coming. All the illegals will leave because the holiday and free money will end. It can't come soon enough
Pearse Street in Ballina of course.
