- KV-1 with L-11 gun is the first soviet heavy tank in War Thunder. it has very good armor (75mm) for it's battle rating (3.7) but because of small gun has difficulties penetrating even medium tanks.
Nevertheless protection allows you to survive long enough and that's a bad news for tanks opponents. In gameplay montage video explained tanks strong and weak sides , what ammunition to use , how to position your tank and much, much more.

Watching a KV have the awkward problem of failing ot penetrate an M4 Sherman with the AP ( it might only be 50mm or so on the very front, but it is heavily sloped...) would make for bad videos
@@RedShocktrooperRST aim for the view port you'll kill iy every time usually they can't pen you unless they aim for your port (also fun fact if you flank a Sherman aims right behind that little box on there side that's usually where they have some ammo)

for me it is like that: I cant penetrate t-34 (1940), while it can one-shot me (when we are both facing ourselves with front armor)

Also seems pretty strange, so far I only managed to kill 1 KV-1 and that's because I shot at his horizontal drive/ring which is basically the only weak-spot I could find.
PsychicRearden Shoot at machine gun when directly infront of the KV-1, guarantee 1 shot with APHE if you do it right, else flank it and shoot at the front upper side slit, another 1 shot spot. KV-1s are easy to kill once you learn all of their weak spots.
Many scrubs choose the KV1 because of its "heavy tank" tag and will expose either their side or dont angle themselves when fighting frontally, with exprience you will find that fighting the KV-1 is easy to deal with.

Some more weakspots: Turret cheek, guarantee gunner and loader kill with Panzer F2 or any other 75mm gun. Turret ring: guarantee 1 shot kill with 75mm cannon.
I remember when these could be found in 2.0 - 2.3 BR matches and where a game changer due to nothing being able to penetrate their armor
I remember in an arcade battle once, I came across another KV-1.. Not fun trying to kill a KV-1 in a KV-1 that can't pen each other lol.

You can penetrate every single enemy tank you face at that BR, while they can't do anything to you if you angle. Or if they do you still have superb survivability. Just because you have to properly aim doesn't mean it deserves a low battle rating. Another thing to mention is the insane mobility it has for a Heavy Tank.

KV-1, The best early heavy tank. Not only that most tank at its br cannot penerate it, the KV-1 rounds also cannot penerate most tank at its br. Except for KV85, that thing is a nightmare for non heavy player.
Most of KV-1's opponents are tanks with short cannons. Especially in German tech tree. Which makes full caliber rounds that players mostly use have a really low penetration (35-65 few exceptions). While i was playing with the Pz. 4 F1 i faced this tank in battle. Shot it's rear hull and didn't penetrate. Tried rear turret, same result. I said "Screw this!" and got the hell out of there. This is what makes it op for lower BRs

KV 1 is super good, I’ve never had issues with penetration, it usually takes a crap ton of shells to knock me out.
The reason I like this tank is because it's the most Noob friendly tank in the game it has Good armor to make up for a new players mistakes that they will make but it also benefits from angling and teachers new players how to angle which is very important it has a fast reload and it's not hard to aim It may have a low penetration but this teaches players where to aim on a tanks which will benefit them in a higher tears and when they do get the penetration it's almost a guaranteed one shot

Solid ap also helps you pen shermans frontally, i've played around with the solid ap and the aphe shells with my t 34s. You can also pen t 34s frontally also. The shell listing does not really apply to just kv 1 it applies to early t 34s. But before I thought the L 11 cannon was just useless bc I would bounce so many tanks. But when you read stats. You get to understand what kind of shells are good

I mean, I'm playing with PZ IV F2 and I don't remember that this tank was impenetrable. I've always blown up the ammunition of KV-1 or at least got all the crew members in turret.
I once bounced like 20 shells from 3 enemys whilst repairing. Killed all 3 off them

well i have been in a lot of instances where i defeated kv with panzer 3. you just have to use some tactics and aim well. well i had none of those i just was lucky

When facing Americans and British in a 4.0 uptier, I usually take most APBC and some APHE, maybe shrapnel shells for British AA or Italian sauce pans.
APBC will sometimes have enough pen for Shermans, but avoid shooting them at angles, or close range. Try medium range.
If you try and dance with American tank platoons, you might not have much luck. With your turtle speed, flank capturing enemies and shoot em’ in the back.

All the tanks armed with KwK 40 (except one) are at most 0.6 BR away from the KV-1 (L11) so it meets them in every single match it plays against Germany
I like the fact that he says the gun sucks while almost one hit killing every tank he sees. (As a 3.0 Germany player this thing and the m4 annoy me a lot. Cause the only way to pen either is using apcr or spam heat using a heat slingshot)
to be fair you are being up tiered, what is worse by far is M4A3 (105), its 2.7 and hard to kill even by 3.0 german tanks

The Russian APHE does excel at getting through angles due to it being capped, so the pen is sometimes a bit misleading

Mistake, APBC is very good, and it should be used often. Good penetration, and superb angled armour penetration since it's armour piercing flat nosed shell with ballistic cap which is way superior to AP, APC or APCBC in this regard. With APBc/APHEBC you can pen T34 frontal hull with 77mm pen APHEBC ,but you can't with 100mm pen APCBC shell.

Panzer fours of that br have 80mm thick frontal armor plate which will usually stop the l-11 APHE, while the german gun can penetrate the turret, the l-11 gun is the main issue because it is underpowered, it was bad enough in the 1940 t-34 which is at br 3.3

KV-1, historically , didn`t really had any worthy opponent tanks until 1942 and was mainly lost to 88 mm anti-aircraft guns, artillery, air attacks or their own crews abandoning them due to malfunctions
If you load the solid shot AP ammo, this thing turns into an aboslute monster. It can kill almost any tank it sees from the front lol. OP as hell; I love this tank!
I sweer this tank is so good one time I was a single tank army my team was pretty much dead and I was fasing American tanks so this how it went I began rushing to the point on the Kursk map and I was holding it alone the entire match while my team was doing God knows what because the wear pretty much dead halfway through the match so I realized what I had to do I honkerd down on the point was shooting as fast as I can but there was so many enamy tanks that I could bearly killing them and I almost bounced like a 100 shells and I got like 35 kills because my team was shit but sadly 2 tanks came behind me I kiled one but he somehow disable my track's and turret so I couldn't do anything and we lost the match just. Barely 1 more minute and I would have won and do you know what happened my teammates they were cheering me on and when I lost the turned from nice to mean like what also this was RB
I once use IS-1 bound 7 shot on front by keep pressing A,D,A,D,A,D so it keep left and right to bound the shell...And i able to kill 3 before i died

Bomb is a rocket, but it's speed and tragectory depends on speed and position of your plane.
Fly to target on about 45 degree, place you sight a bit higher than 2 turrets of a tank and throw bombs from 300m.
Bomb goes with speed and direction of plane, but only for few hungred meters (cuz it has no engine or something is goes to lost speed and change tragectory).
on 45 degree dive your bomb will do this.

You didn’t say why it is undietered. You just described its overall performance, shells and penetration values which by the way can easily penetrate anything at that br and in return it gets never killed at the first shot. Let alone at high range.

lower battle rating actually means you get large maps in RB, and I couldn’t tell you why. when I play high tier I always get Advance to the Rhine and Berlin, but when I play around 3.7 I get Fulda and Sands of Sinai 😤

Compared to the US tech tree this tank and the T-34 are a revelation. To actually be able to deflect shots and fight in urban environments, which I had poor luck with in M4s, makes the process of grinding silver so much easier. The first time I have ever had a 6 kill streak all killed in a single shot was in a T-34. You can't use hills, but you can work corners easily which is arguably more useful in this game.
The T-34 never deflects shots, most of the time especially in a Urban scenario. I found the best tactic is to flank with it and basically get to cover as the enemy will have little time to react unless you will fight the I don't want to move the entire match Japanese or Italians.
@@firepower7017 It's the opposite for me. I find t-34s better in cities, and M4s in rolling hillside. The only sticking point is the reload being pokey. And in general I bounce more in a t-34 than a m4. The only exception being my turret. I haven't gone past tier 2 because it's prohibitively expensive, so I can't get to the tanks that have stronger turret armor.

@@firepower7017 Machine gun port is kind of a universal weakness in tanks. M4 and Panzer 4 both share that weak spot. And yeah desert maps are nice. I usually use a M10 in that setting though.
The low fuse distance on APHEBC shell feels very weird
Once I played in a KV and just chilled by the enemy spawn on a hill where they could all see me, I got thousands of points by just soaking up shell after shell without taking damage at all

I always run into 4.7 BR tanks with the KV-1 and basically it becomes useless
I played this tank in squadron battles against another one of his kind. You can basically do nothing but shoot tracks, shoot gun and then 3x set on fire.
I used APHE I think I didn't have APCR researched at the time.
1:20 min - it is not easy, but even Matilda can kill KV-1 - aim for turret ring - big (ok small) weakness of KV-1.
The high velocity (APHV Mk.1) and APCBC (APCBC Mk.IXB) can do it
doesn't matter if the kv-1 has low penetration for in that tier there are tanks with little to no armor anyway.
As with an almost 60 win rate with the kv-1 i would say people dont understand how good it is.

Its not invincible. I one shot it many times at the front while using long barreled Panzer IVs like the Panzer IV G,H, and J. So Panzer IVs can definitely kill it. Never mind the tank destroyers in the german line

The IS-3 and IS-4M have that one big weak spot on the front of the hull right below the turret, and on the lower left or right side, under the side skirts is like 30mm of armor if memory serves right that if you shoot the bottom back side, you'll probably hit an ammo rack and 1 shot the tank.

Tbh if you angel you can bounce shots from even german tank destroyers. The only tank destroyer that has killed me without hitting my view port or the edges of my turret or hull (I get killed by pens to my turret and hull edges more than anything else) but any flak cannon of any kind is the only thing I've been staight up pend by. Also for its tier as long ad you dont aim for the obvious armor points like tracks and such you'll pen unless it's a Sherman or at long ranges then you gota hit them viewports
some people get made, and i admit, im one of them, at R3's being so op at it's br, but they try to make wt a historically acurate game, so i guess thats why the r3 is where it is, because of when it was used and stuff, and if they increase it's br, it's not as accurate.. but still, they should increase the br a little, not like a whole 2-3 brs
Actually if you have problems penetrating with L-11's APHE use AP rounds with 93mm pen, their damage is still enough to 1-2 shot enemies
i remember when i was using this tank i was fighting 2 enemies a sherman and a stuart i cant pen the sherman and i cant turn my turret fast enough to kill the stuart but i gave the a hard time fighting me because i was angling against the sherman and i dont know how a stuart cant kill me he was already point blank and circling me i fought untill they remember they have arty and since the stuart can only destroy my tracks and did so i easily got killed by arty.

edit again: also they overpushed and got into our spawn radar and luckily i have a back up and they saw me again and they was like retreat!!! since im now not alone and i already have comrades to fight them with me
