I remember reading an article in a hobbyist computer magazine in the 1970s (it might have been Creative Computing, Byte, or Kilobaud) where they made an inexpensive display by arranging a line of LEDs on a stick. As the stick was spun around from one end the computer would control the LEDs to draw images.
When I was in college I was at a party that was decorated with clear plastic tubing that they had drawn the glowing green fluid from chemical flare sticks into. I jumped rope with a length of that for a bit.
A figure 8 knot is just like a regular overhand knot except you give the loop an extra twist before passing one end through it.

I know 😊 the reel was filmed on my iPhone which is too restrictive around settings. And I was using my zv1 for the vlog here which I just whack on auto for ease (as constantly changing between conditions). I’ll try it on my 6400 soon when the evenings are warmer and I can film at dusk without freezing my fingers and toes off 🤣
Sweet Lauren, I could watch you jump rope for days. Also, you're quite right to give a good and honest assessment of this product. For someone like you this is a game changer. Only if you have that kind of money should you consider spending it.
Small item to consider: the accoustics in your video seem a bit hard, I don't know what equipment you use to record audio, it might be a touch softer. A personal consideration, pay no mind to it.
I'll keep watching your jump rope videos because you bring joy to my heart 🙂.

I on the other hand AM impressed. Most of your other videos highlight you the person, the athlete that you are. The one thing that's hard to follow is the rope. It moves so fast. With this experiment we get to see the rope more, and the dance between you and the rope. You're creating a bit of "fireworks" with this LED jump rope. I love the fact that you are very willing to experiment - always pushing the envelope. And you let us be part of it by allowing us to peek behind the curtain to see what goes into all that you do to create your craft. Your approach is brilliant. You keep your fans engaged. We get to be apart of what you're creating. Thank you. You're not only very talented but obviously very smart as well.

The beauty is in the details. The BGM-stop at "is this thing on?" is peak editing!!
I think you need to manually set the slowest shutter speed, or maybe stopping down to a smaller aperture (larger f number) will force the shutter to stay open longer. Once you've managed to catch more movement you can maybe add some more persistence in a video processing app.

I think that how long the jump rope lasts depends a lot on what surface you use it on when you're performing. e,g a Slippery Teflon surface would make it last longer than say Asphalt.
Oh for sure! Jump rope mats or indoor gym flooring are best - you’ll always see me using a mat to protect my ropes! The point is more that inevitably a jump rope will wear down (even on the best surface) - with this rope you’re adding leds to the mix and it’s expensive. How you use the rope isn’t cited in the warranty - it’s 20,000 jumps or 6 months. Unfortunately I don’t know any performers who have tried and tested it over a long period so can only go on the warranty that doesn’t provide a lot of confidence. This company offers 12 months for all their other products by comparison
I’m wondering how the impact of the rope hitting the ground might affect the electronics. If the LEDs in the middle fail (that’s where the impact would be highest), will the rest go out?

It appears that replacing the sheath is the opportunity. The manufacturer should offer a replacement sheath both to deal with wear and to provide a custom length.
So using the led rope, and in a controlled space what would 6 or 10 different takes all edited to give a River Dance type of thing. Would take ages to film, but could look fantastic?

If itz durable , and you can use it to help you..its an expense. Cost of business. But, if its wonky,bothers you,off-balance etc. Toss it. Not worth injury. Hugs

Find someone with a Z9 Nikon camera and do stills at 120fps. I think that rope would look amazing as you would be able to see the images that the rope is creating. Bring it to the states and I will do it with my Z9!!
