Put 100 ml of water and 330g of sugar in a pot. Heat it up to 115°C or soft ball stage and DON'T mix it. Warm up tahini. Kill the heat, add sugar sirup to tahini and mix it fastly. Much better than store bought halvah. Have a nice day 😁
Emmy have you ever heard of a "pastel diplomático"? (Literal translation would be diplomatic cake) sometimes also referred to as impossible cake or chocoflan. It's a delicious "magic" cake. It consists of a bottom layer of moist chocolate cake and a top layer of creamy flan all topped with melted "cajeta" (dulce de leche). You bake it in a bain-marie, you actually put both the cake batter and the flan mixture together in the same pan and as it bakes the flan sets and the cake rises and when you flip it to unmold it you get the cake on the bottom and the flan on top. I would loooove to see you try it. It's delicious!!!

@@djm7494 Hot fudge pudding cake? Ok, I'm dating myself, but I think there were boxed versions way back in the 70's. I did a quick check, found many chocolate recipes, and a heavenly Easy Lemon Lava Cake. Not to confuse readers with adding pudding mix to a cake recipe for richness, the technique does make a sauce as you describe.
Wow, this is the earliest I've been for one of her videos in a long time. But I always end up liking the video before I actually watch it because I already know it's gonna be good, hahaha. Love you, Emmy.
My mother's family has Pennsylvania Dutch roots, and they were from an area of Pennsylvania where Mennonite communities are present. She passed her recipe for "Montgomery Pie" down to me, which she learned from her mother, and her mother learned from her mother (and so on). Montgomery pie is very much like this pie except I put the dark layer in first (and it's very liquidy and made with dark corn syrup rather than cocoa, a similar pie called "Shoe Fly pie" uses molasses) then I dollop a cake batter"y" like mix over the top and bake it. The bottom is sweet and it seeps into the cake part while it's baking. My daughter says it tastes like pancakes and syrup. :) Thanks for sharing your Funny Cake recipe!
When I saw the title I squealed! Funny cake is my childhood and favorite cake! I’m so glad you made it! It’s one of the many treats I enjoy baking with family. You should look up some Pennsylvania Dutch recipes and such! Whoopie pies, shoofly pies were all my from my childhood!

I know many of the recipes by heart and it is STILL my go to book when I want something different to make. One of the best cookbooks out there.
I agree, so much prefer her kitchen. The new space must not be laid out well bcs she seems all over the place when she films there. It detracts from her charming personality.
Loved this episode! I had funny cake 18 years ago in PA in the Mennonite community and have been meaning to make it and never have. This inspires me to finally make it and relive the memories. It’s so good! Many PA residents eat it for breakfast with coffee.

Out of the 100’s of channels I’m subscribed to that have promotionals, I frick you not Emmy is the only one I will happily pay attention to. Big love to Emmy for her philanthropic efforts in times like these while working with companies that benefit other people in more ways than one! Hugs from the UK Emmy! ❤️
The most unproblematic woman on the internet. You light up our lives Emmy! Thank you our beautiful lovely 🙏🏻 Edit, Anabaptists also get to use ZIPPERS 😂 And the Amish didn’t because its too easy to get your clothes off for sinning that way!
Also they don't all follow the same rules. Many now have cell phones, believe it or not. They are not permitted to keep them on their home normally however
Gross. Amish don't use buttons because they were used as a fashion accessory to make your clothes look pretty and indicate your status and wealth in Europe when the Anabaptist faith was created. Not using buttons on your clothes was a political and religious statement. It has nothing to do with sex and I find your comment ugly and vulgar.
Oh good grief, let’s all get pissy over a stupid joke. YES buttons and zippers were considered too flashy, but buttons are totally being used across many sects of the Amish now and widely accepted by mennonites. Also, I was told by more than one Amish person that zippers and buttons were also too easy to open quickly and there’s some truth in that so just settle down everyone. It’s not SICK good lord.
Rebekah Yoder I’m glad you’re googling is top notch. As we all know the Amish aren’t prudes, sex isn’t seen as vulgar, or verboten. Im assuming your delicate nature must be constantly under assault if this one benign comment got you rankled.
I loved reading recipes when I was a kid. Like a book. My favorite recipe books were from women’s groups and church groups. I even checked them out at the library. Lol. I was a weird kid.
Yum! Reminds me of the peach cobbler I ate as a child. In a cast iron dutch oven, batter on bottom, peaches on top, bake in oven, and the layers reverse. Love, love, love, love that cobbler.
My family was Mennonites two generations ago. They don't like being mixed up with those other groups. I'm not sure exactly why, but it's a no no to compare them.
@@naomilgay Baptists branched off from the Anabaptist group, but they are still a sub group of the Anabaptists because what made that group branch off from earlier protestant groups was the belief only adults can choose the religion for themselves like Emmy mentions and the idea that who goes to heaven isn't predetermined

@emmymade, I am that 1/8th Mennonited dude. My great grandpa didn't bring his food culture with him, as his rumspringa was at age 12! Meanwhile, this looks amazing. You caught me off guard with your "boop" of things, as that's what I used to do with my Alistair, who died last month. Whether or not you follow recipes exactly, your content makes me smile, sometimes through tears. You seem so kind and approachable. I am glad to help you boost with liking your videos, commenting, and often sharing to my FB. Thanks for being such a bouyant personality.
You can really play with this recipe too.. I’ve done it the way you did but in the bottom of the pie crust before the batter I’ve put in a layer of strawberry preserves and another time boysenberry both work with the chocolate element Flavor and I’ve also done it sans the preserves and in lieu of the cocoa syrup I did melted butterscotch concoction and it also worked out beautifully! This one is awesome because you get the best of both worlds pie and cake!!!
I always love the unique recipes you find Emmy!! Can you make Magic Custard cake? Initially it is one batter and when you bake the cake it separates into three different layers. Top is sponge, middle is custard, and bottom is almost fudge-y. It is one of my favorites!! Highly recommend!!

I'm in Philadelphia and we have a huge community of Amish that visit the city from around Lancaster, bringing their foods to sell. Let me tell you, they make a pie called Shoofly Pie, basically brown sugar and molasses sticky goodness that one cannot eat without coffee. Or, cawfee, in Philly speak. Shoofly Pie is simply incredible, Emmy! I think you'd like it!
Wow, that Mennonite Cook book reminds me of an antique cook book my mom used to have since 1980's Where they have 2-3 recipes on every page of it, so that we'll need to fail at least once when we try a new recipe to figure out how the recipe goes 😁 Also, Do you smell carrots? 🥕🥕🥕

Wonderful, respectful description of Mennonites. Thanks for educating us, Emmy!
Wow, this is the earliest I've been for one of her videos in a long time. But I always end up liking the video before I actually watch it because I already know it's gonna be good, hahaha. Love you, Emmy.
Emmy, I love it when you have a successful recipe! You get so excited! I was shook when I saw how that pie turned out. It looks divine!
I can’t imagine how jealous all the kids at school are when one of Emmy’s kids opens their lunchbox.
She's certainly done some creative takes on PB&J, that's for sure!
I’m going through a really tough mental state right now, your videos have helped me so much. Thank you for always staying true to yourself and always being positive
I'm making dinner for my niece's while watching this, just as I grab my baking sheet to put it in the oven you narrated me placing it into the 375° oven as I was doing it.
I come from a long line of Mennonites and seeing you make this really helped me feel less homesick :) That cookbook is a treasure trove! I'd love to see you do more things from it!
It's so cute how Emmy goes "boop" sometimes when she adds ingredients lol.
She has t-shirts now that have her saying: "Bloop"! For sale on her blog.
I grew up learning to cook with this book and was absolutley thrilled when I got my own copy as a Christmas present from my Dad, now deceased, with a special message written inside. I know many of the recipes by heart and it is STILL my go to book when I want something different to make. One of the best cookbooks out there.
Yay! Emmy’s back in her kitchen!!!
Amy Schumer why do we love that so much? It makes me feel so cozy ❤️
Amy Schumer I agree, this looks so homey and loved. The studio space is a bit sterile I think.
I know Emmy’s excited about her studio but I miss her being in her kitchen.
You always find the fun and interesting recipes, I'm so incredibly amused by all of your videos and I haven't even watched anything else on RUclips except your videos recently hahaha I LOVE THEMMM
Thank you!
Same!!
I'm Mennonite and grew up about 15 miles from Telford, where the recipe is from, and love funny cake! There's a lemon version as well. My husband's grandmother always made a funny cake as a gift for birthdays in the family. I'll have to make him one this year, as she has passed on.
Yay! I love this kitchen so much.
Who is disliking anything on this channel? It’s just pure sunshine and good vibes
and FOOD. How can you go wrong? 🤷🏻♀️
This video cause an relaxing effect, apart in fact to leaarn to cook or prepare cakes. I like so much, congratulation for this compilation 😋 😋 🍰
❤️❤️❤️
Oh, I’m so happy we’re back in the house and in the kitchen😊
Made this for years. It's awesome. I won a blue ribbon at our local fair for this cake.
The most unproblematic woman on the internet. You light up our lives Emmy! Thank you our beautiful lovely 🙏🏻
Edit, Anabaptists also get to use ZIPPERS 😂
And the Amish didn’t because its too easy to get your clothes off for sinning that way!
Pretty sure it's because they are shiny
I really love how open and curious you are with history and food and everything!!! Youd be an outstanding teacher
Quick note: Mennonites are one specific type of anabaptists, Amish, Mennonites and Hutterites are all type of anabaptists💖
Thank you for the clarification! I was wondering about how the Hutterites and the Amish related to the Menonites :)
Technically the baptists aren't anabaptist, but they are definitely related and mostly the same.
Im not American. Im gonna read more about this.
I have been having a hellish day and I'm in a crappy mood but Emmy is the gift that keeps on giving.
I have that cookbook and it’s my absolute favorite; it was my grandmother’s first. I loathe apple crisp made with oatmeal, and this cookbook has the perfect oatless crisp! Simple, delicious, unpretentious whole food recipes👍🏽
Your crusts are always sooo thick. Makes me happy my moms pies are always perfect. She has won 12 awards in 4 states for her pies. I have been blessed. Her crusts are made COMPLETELY different than this basic recipe. Makes a huge difference in texture and flavor. I would send it, but dont want it shared on your channel lol so I cant make mom mad ♡
Does your family try the recipes you make? Would be interesting to know how they feel about some of the treats.
I offer my family everything I make and they liked this one. 😋
I am so curious to know more about her family.
kermitcyeh she has two sons and a husband if you didn’t already know and like Valence said above she likes to keep their privacy but they’re hands have appeared in a few videos stirring and in a video where she made mud pies I think.
If she were to allow the boys on camera, Facebook would probably turn off her comments. They have new rules about kids in videos.
@@valence6023 Really? One the most monetized YT channels is centered around a kid that reviews toys. Also, there are lots of channels that show families that include kids that are indeed monetized because there are ads and other things. I just think Emmy is smart and just protecting her privacy which she entitled to do.
I would throw the tennis ball, and say, "boop!", an he would bring it back to me. Sometimes I would surprise him with a "boop!" to his snoot, and he would reward me with licking my face. Whether or not you follow recipes exactly, your content makes me smile, sometimes through tears. You seem so kind and approachable. I am glad to help you boost with liking your videos, commenting, and often sharing to my FB. Thanks for being such a bouyant personality.
Love your videos Emmy~ been a subscriber since your start in Japan. Keep it up girl :)
Thank you so much for sticking with me through the years. ❤️
That sounds freaking amazing 🍰
I’ve been WAITING for you to do a recipe from the Mennonite cookbook!!!! Ahhh I’m so excited!
Emmy, always remember you’re so amazing! Thank you for your wonderful videos :)
Aww...thank you and so are you. :)
Emmy, you are always an absolute joy to watch and listen to. You are a doll!!!
I have that cookbook! It was my mom's. Try the Shoofly Pie!
Shari Welch I live in Emmaus, PA and I get Weis Market’s Shoo Fly Pie every time I go. So good.
Shoofly pie... their food names are amazing to far 😍
@@ThomasEdge You should try the recipe from this book, and make it yourself - it's easy and so delicious. :) Here is a link to the same recipe that's in the book, if you're interested. www.food.com/recipe/authentic-shoo-fly-pie-straight-from-lancaster-co-163320
@@alisa.maks26 It's yummy, it's molasses and brown sugar flavor, so if you like those, you will love Shoofly Pie. :)
I've made Shoofly pie.
I love how excited Emmy was making and eating this dessert. Lol Looked delicious girl!
Most of my mums cook books have been covered in so much stuff I joke about the book being a meal
I love that you take the time to put in extra info to educate! Great detail :)
that's how I like it, without any dislike
Always excited to see you've posted a new treat. Also, I have been getting HelloFresh boxes for a month and they help me eat like a grown-up once a day. I am by myself and have to isolate, friends shop for me, so each box actually makes 6 meals each. And now I am recreating some of the recipes on my own, like the tabbouleh-chickpea bowl. The kits do cut down on food waste because everything is exactly what you need and nothing more. Your videos are so upbeat, I really look forward to them.
Petition for them to rebrand as HellaFresh ‘cause I stg that’s always what it sounds like when youtubers are sponsored by them lmao.
Wow, that Mennonite Cook book reminds me of an antique cook book my mom used to have since 1980's
Where they have 2-3 recipes on every page of it, so that we'll need to fail at least once when we try a new recipe to figure out how the recipe goes 😁
Also,
Do you smell carrots? 🥕🥕🥕
I wasn't aware of this. What You do is a real public service. Thank You, Ms. Emmy.
Ahhhh!!! My moms family is mennonite, I'm HERE FOR THIS!!
I grow up in a Mennonite Church and this is the best stuff!!! When ever we had a pot luck at church this was always there!!!
Cake in a pie crust is so weird to me... Anyway, I like how you’re respectful of people of all different backgrounds ⭐️
Emmy, you make my life brighter. I’ve been suffering with a stomach bacteria for over a month, and you’ve helped me get through it. Thank you so much‼️❤️
Another interesting Anabaptist sect is the Hutterites:)
Actually, the Amish, Hutterites, and Mennonites are sects of Anabaptists.
I love the Hutterites around here. So much delicious foods and veg.
I'm so glad you still make vids. I found you by watching your older content andni was like, please be active! lol
If I were being put to death... I would want your voice counting down the last few seconds lol soooo soothing!!
That was weird.... but funny.
Uh... so extreme.. but whatever floats your boat?
It was meant to be funny... but y'all getting so butthurt that you feel the need to reply lol we really are in 2020. Take a breath. You're alive in America.
My favorite youtuber!!!! You’re like. My internet mom. Thank you for brightening my day!!!!!!!!
My pleasure. ❤️
This seems interesting AND I’m early. I’m jazzed
So cool! Thanks for trying out this recipe :) I'm a Mennonite and have that cookbook (though I admit I usually use a few more modern Mennonite cookbooks which I ADORE such as More with Less and Simply In Season. Seriously. If you like the Mennonite Community Cookbook, you'll love the others too!) Anyway, I have that cookbook, but I've never heard of or made the funny cake pie before. I'll have to get it a go. Though I have had a Chocolate Pudding Cake, which does a similar thing. My favorite recipe in the Menno Community is the tomato soup for canning. It's the only tomato soup I'll eat. So delicious!! Enjoy exploring your new book!!!
EDITING OOPSIE: the mysterious milk that doesn't get talked about but then is added....
🤣🤣🤣
I absolutely love how much of your personality is in this video! My husband walked by as I was watching a different video recently and asked, "Are you ever going to make that?" I said it wasn't likely but I liked watching your videos for you as much as the recipes, lol. I might try this one though.
So did you see THIS one recently? Seems a wild brown rabbit has become the first non-human life form to be charged with a crime.
They got him for disturbing the peas.
I've watched a ton of your videos, and you just got a new subscriber from this Mennonite girl!
So enjoy your videos! You are such a natural on camera and enunciate beautifully! Thank you for always offering interesting things!
I love when she names off random stuff in her backgrounds. 🖤
Did you just do the little kid happy food dance? Too funny😋😘🤗💕
Love seeing you happy and excited.
I know the recipes are supposed to be the main focus, but Emmy is so beautiful! I get lost in the tone of her soothing voice, bubbly personality, and dreamy eyes 🤩
Mennonites have a lot of unique recipes! I'd love to see more!
Wow, if you aren't Mennonite or have Mennonite family I would be very surprised. You look like girls I've worked with lol
And dated, in case that came off wrong
I absolutely love when she gets so excited over her recipes doing what they are supposed to ...
I am SO excited to watch this video! My father and i are estranged now, but i remember my great grandmother on his side of the family making 2 different pies that were just wild to me as a kid. Shoofly pie and... I could never remember the name of the other pie... UNTIL I SAW THE TITLE OF YOUR VIDEO! Since I could never look it up, my memory of the pie has faded, all i remember is that it was like no other pie I had ever seen. I am so excited to watch this and lowkey hope I don't get emotional 😅 I miss that side of my family, and this is giving me back one of the few nostalgic ties to them ❤
For yeeeaaars all id been able to remember was that it was so incredibly weird! I remembered it had a weird name, and a weird filling. I remembered it being totally unique. But i couldnt for the life of me remember what made it so weird! Haha but here we are... it's funny cake. Of course it is! 😂 That name says it all 😂
Sorry to ramble, I just wasn't expecting a big mystery of my life to get solved today haha I'm so glad I found your channel again recently and subscribed this time around!
Emmymade, you’re the absolute cutest and best!! You inspire me to be more adventurous in the kitchen!
Emmy is funnier than normal in today's video!!!😁👍🥰
Her delivery of the sponsored product is so calm and soothing, that I'm always prone to trying whatever it is, simply because of her chill, yet convincing, product endorsement!!!
