That nail was scarier than the monster. Also, a fun fact, in the grocery store, the only thing still on the shelves are chips. Can't have have noisy chips when there are monsters that hunt by sound.
... and that's the real horror of the this movie ;-)
I am suprised soda was gone, that can make so much noise too
@@schuettjoel poke a hole in the soda , after awhile it goes flat
@@schuettjoel Death by belching ☠️
I think they would have made good diversions in many situations
Kat in 2022: Hi I'm Kat and I hate horror movies.😱
Kat in 2024: Hi I'm Kat and I have an artistic appreciation of horror movies.😄
John Krasinski said that before he shot this, he was chatting with another director who'd worked with Emily Blunt and the director told him "You won't really understand how brilliant she is until you've watched her through a camera." And Krasinki was like - shut up, that's my wife, I know she's brilliant. And then they shot the bathtub scene and he was like "Oh...now I get it."
The buildup to that scream Emily Blunt does right after the fireworks go off is such a great moment, goosebumps everytime
I just can’t imagine going through labor without making any noise. Or even stepping on that nail. I’ve never gone through labor, but I stepped on glass and many sharp things, before.
Hearing that Kat can't walk down a simple hallway without knocking things off the walls is the *real* horror of this video. ;)
Just did this to my kids hanging mask :( I'm a klutz
I was thinking that. I've never knocked a picture off a wall.
One of my sisters loves pictures with loving messages & motivational sayings. Her bathroom is kind of small & trying to use the restroom without elbows knocking pictures down is difficult!!
I saw this in the theater and it was quite the experience. People stopped eating their noisy movie snacks after the first few minutes and it was incredibly quiet for most of the film - except when people were reacting to the scares.
The visuals and of course the sound design in IMAX was absolutely stunning....
Me too! Only movies I couldn't munch on my popcorn, I was too tense
one of the best movie theater experiences ever
i dont think ive ever seen kat more invested in a movie😊
If you believe that a 30-something actress hasn't seen at least some of these movies before, I've got a bridge to sell you...
@@1979cavsfan There are many people who don't watch horror movies, even actors.
@@1979cavsfan Michael Keaton doesn't watch his own movies.
@@Warvvolf That's an interesting anecdote, but I'm not quite sure how it's relevant. Kat didn't appear in any of the movies she has reacted to.
@@briantrash The claim is that they're actors. Do I really have to spell this out for you or are you just acting dumb?
I’ve never seen anyone react to this completely blind. Everyone at least knows about the aliens. Kat being completely blind made this such a wonderful watch.
Luckily theres TONS of women that don’t watch movies 😂
"so the baby's gonna have a funny shaped head due to elastic band and that's okay" 😂😂
I like how she started (after the first monster attack) started speaking less and more qsoftly. A testament to the movie, it subconsciously made her think to be quieter.
The first few times I watched both mob I would catch myself trying to be quiet. I think it’s a testament of how well the story and directing immerses viewers into the world.
Also, this movie made me realize how much I can’t stand kids in scary/horror movies haha.
@@yourlifeisagreatstory Agreed, which makes both Aliens Newt and Jurassic Park's kids so good. I actually care about them.
@@yourlifeisagreatstory Agreed, which makes both Aliens Newt and Jurassic Park's kids so good. I actually care about them.
Something I never thought about until just now. When the raccoon was killed, it made me think of all the animals that stood no chance against these alien monsters. And I don't mean just pets. So many alpha predators like bears, tigers and crocodiles were probably destroyed so easily. These animals ruled their lands forever but they became obsolete in a hurry.
And the irony that the aliens aren't even predatory in their own environment. From all the information that can be gathered about them, they ate some weird plant-like material and never the things that they attacked for making noise. They are like hippos- hyper aggressive vegans. Imagine a planet where THESE THINGS are analogous to herbavores.
The Death Angels eat what looks like fuzzy fungus. Crocs in the swamps would be fine. Death Angels can't swim and only hold their breath for a bit.
I’ve always thought the same about my dog. She likes to bark every now and again at people/dogs running or anything moving fast. I love her but she’d probably have to go on day one haha
@@Knightmare435 that's true. Occasionally, crocs come on land but they would eventually perish because the death angels would eat all their prey. The one thing crocodiles can do is adapt and evolve. They could theoretically retreat to the oceans to find a plentiful food source.
@@yourlifeisagreatstory cats might have a chance. They're relatively quiet and they have stronger survival instincts than dogs. There isn't much you can do to keep a doggo from barking.
Emily Blunt is such a WARRIOR in these movies
we've been getting genre-defining horror lately! Stranger Things, Hill House, IT, and now this?! Its so awesome how much scarier it gets when you CARE about the characters!
The actress that plays the daughter is actually deaf in real life.

So simple, yet it wrecks my heart every damn time.
I seen this in the theater with my family. Every sip of soda, crunch of popcorn, candy wrapper was so loud! When it got to a real quiet moment I heard my father a few seats away fart! I wanted to bust out laughing so bad but I held my tongue! 🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I saw it in a theater too and I was scared to make any sound at all because people got mad. Especially with the fact that it was so dead silent in there that the slightest sound stood out. I accidentally made a sucking sound with my straw when I hit the bottom of my drink and it was so awkward
@@Jennilynne I felt the same way! When the river and waterfall scenes happened I hurried and finished my soda!
Me with a Taco Bell taco being the loudest thing in any theater.
The tongue isn't involved in laughing. You can hold your tongue but it wouldn't prevent you from laughing.
Oh, I'm seated! This one is a ride, and I can't wait for you to watch the 2nd and the prequel. Both were better than I expected them to be, tbh!
The sequel was decent, I don't consider the prequel to be worth watching. Just my opinion.
I think all 3 are equally great in their own way. The prequal is less about the aliens which some people dont like.
@@DudditsXCIII agree. Loved it.
I thought Day One was excellent bc of the focus on the characters.
@@kimberlyjeanne9456 exactly. Trying to avoid major spoilers, Day One was meant to show us someone who had other things to worry about besides the aliens we had seen for two movies and how those issues had to be balanced around the aliens.
In the theater, after the opening scene, no one would even eat their popcorn. Everyone held their breath.
When I saw Kat was watching A Quiet Place, I thought, "oh, she's going to love that one!"
25:42 "loud hugging" lolol
"Too much loud hugging!" 🤣
Love this movie. I mean, I'm genuinely horrified at the basic premise of it, having to be silent or die, but the execution is SO amazing.
I firmly believe Emily Blunt deserved an Oscar and all the awards for this performance
I watched this movie in theaters...and it was an incredible experience! Just like Kat, everyone felt compelled to be as quiet as possible. Every sound was SO loud and terrifying. And of course, the heartbreak. There wasn't a dry face in the theater after Krasinski's death. Such a great movie!
I imagine if that was an American movie theater then being quiet was very difficult 😂
I don't mean that to be offensive by the way 😅.. it's just cinema experiences in the US are a lot than pretty much everywhere else in the world .. (but of course there will probably be the butthurts that have to start something out of nothing)
my same experience in my theater, in downtown Chicago
@@Damien.Young46 Not while watching *this* film, it wasn't. 😳
Only one Oscar Nod, for Best Sound Editing.
I had forgotten how brilliant this movie is, with one of the most moving moments not just in the horror genre but in any genre.
Theater experience was pretty great. A room full of people trying not to breathe too loudly.
Such a beautiful story, and so beautifully directed. Each time the story was from the deaf daughter's point of view there was complete silence. Such a beautiful touch! It took a while for me to notice it (might have even been on second watch), it just added to an already extremely impressive movie! Great reaction Kat, as always!
I love how at 14:59 you said "mistake" in cursive
I had my lunch on the stove, just about the time her water broke the kitchen timer went off. argh
The house/farm/barn where this was filmed is literally 8 minutes from my house. Great movie and cast!
Really? How did you guys survive with all them things around?
This movie reminds me of how we had to be on Saturday when my Dad was sleeping... No noise... Or else. Dunt Dunt Duuuuuuuuuuuhhhhh.
Growing up with my toolbag of a stepfather taught me how to be a total NINJA! I can be so quiet to this day
Good life skills training!!! 😄😄😄
"that baby will have the weirdest shaped head from the elastic" 😅😅
In the End, Lee (John) knew he was done for. He was bleeding out internally. Without a operation there was no way to live through that. The cut was just way to deep.
So, he did what a father would do. Make sure the Alien would pay attention to him. But he could not go without his 1st born to know she is loved... to make things right...🤧
You could feel the past 473+ days worth' of pain and fear and stress and anguish and fear and love in his scream at that moment; what a great scene.
'this is sub-optimal' i lol'd at that one
Wow Kat was emotionally exhausted by the end of this movie.
This movie was so good to see in the theater. Every scene was soo tense because the whole theater was drop needle quite.
The four key questions: "What are you doing? Where are you going? Why are you packing? What is your plan?" 😂😂😂😂
Kat, admit it...this is why you LOVE Horror movies!! :)
Fun fact: The daughter is actually deaf irl and the cast learned sign language for her
Oh goodness Kat your videos bring me so much joy. I can’t wait to stop procrastinating and start the compilations I plan to make of you. One of “something is amiss!” and another of “_______, that’s the *real* horror of this film.” Hahahaha

"Avert your gaze"

“Shirley… Shirley Knot “ … 😂🎥🎞👍
"Did anybody fix that sticky outy nail?!" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
This movie was the first time I’ve ever seen a Cochlear implant in a film . Great concept
Cochlear implants have existed for decades. They are more than a concept
Now watch part 2, and the prequil Day 1, and part 3 will be out next year!!!
I first saw this on the high seas and didn't have subtitles, 10/10 experience
You saw it on a boat? You were on a cruise? You went to a Pirate Adventure at an amusement park? Lol
I had family just see Deadpool VS Wolverine on a cruise.
Such a tense film BUT ... once it was over I severely questioned how no one had thought to try different frequencies on the creatures after all that time. Either way, one of the great opening scenes in a film to set up the story, and the scene where John sacrifices himself just tears me up every time. Great reaction Kat ... but there isn't any other option with you! Cuz you're always great!
_"I severely questioned how no one had thought to try different frequencies on the creatures after all that time."_
How would one set up that experimenting?
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8psFundamentally it would be an ultra-high risk scenario and I imagine that people were dying so rapidly that there was no opportunity to do tests leading to creating a defence. Other than blades or bows, virtually all human weapons make noise or require you to be lethally close. Who is trained in medieval weapons to the level necessary to save the world?
Thank you for being an AWESOME creator and human being, period, exclamation point :)
My favorite part of the reaction was "That's a lot of LOUD HUGGING!!!"
I truly feel for all the deaf folks out there. It must be a nightmare.
That scene when he sacrifices himself to save his children always hits me hard in the feels.
Krasinski had never worked with Emily and praised her professionalism and talent on set.
Kat, you were really invested. Always a good sign you loved it.
Kat: "Perhaps she fashioned a gag."
I'm gonna be laughing about that one and the Katie Holmes reference for days.😂
The reason the axe doesn't work. Is because every inch of them is hyper armored. Nothing can puncture their hide, except themselves. Their innards are the weakpoint. Which only really are shown when they are actively listening, gonna bite, or are disrupted by the hearing aid
Just as an educational aside, Emily Blunt's character bleeding during labor is pretty normal. Blood is usually a sign of rapid cervical change just meaning that she's dilating REALLY fast. Bleeding a bunch after delivery is usually where we start to worry. It's not unusual to lose a quart to a pint of blood during and after labor. Source: Im a birth doula.
I think this is the first time I’ve seen Kat get emotional watching a horror movie!
Don’t forget “Train to Busan.” 😊

Kat, I just noticed that you have great facial/body expressions, it looks like an amazing Pixar character lol
Thank goodness you watched with subtitles!!
Pretty sure the subtitles when people are using sign language is the default for this film - even when you don't have subtitles turned on.
@@jhornacek you have to turn them on. I've seen many reactions where people don't and there are no subtitles.
Well I don't know what movie they reacted to because this one does have subtitles in the actual movie . I mean it wouldn't make much since to make a movie predominantly sign language without subtitles. Only people who knew sign language would know what was going on. But the sign that Kat didn't use subtitles is that there wasn't any the few times that they did talk. @user-kp9ee7cw4t
Your best reaction to date… when you realized “John” was sacrificing himself for his children. This is why I watch your reactions… to relive how I felt the first (or 50th) time I watched the same movie 🎥.
You rock.
Still, that doll begs the question that there has to be a couple grandmas in the house.
Okay, first off, I really like this movie! but, one huge plot hole… why didn’t we build a cabin/ safe place for the birth, family and baby next to the waterfall? You took the time to spread miles of sand so you can walk in silence, but didn’t build a place to live where you can be as loud as you want? Otherwise, a great story, and I wish I didn’t have the habit of discussing movies with friends…
Really, think about what they need to do that would make it impossible. Hammering, drilling, etc;
Plus, it's not even a year after the Death Angels landed that it happened, I think. Probably didn't have as much time to plan as they thought.
Thanks for reminding me how enjoyable this movie was! I hadn't seen it since it was in theaters, still holds up really well.
I remember this was one of the most surreal moviegoing experiences for me. The theatre was PACKED, and for the first 20 minutes or so of it there was literally zero sound. It was like being alone in there, like absolutely and utterly alone. I got popcorn, and i still remember each of them sounded like the loudest noise to me, and I was actually afraid of chewing it because I thought the entire theatre would get mad at me.
Other than that, the writing on this movie is one of the tightest I have ever heard of. The themes are very simple, but oh, there were so many ways to blow it all up, and the screenwriter tied every single one of them. Not a second of this movie goes to waste, and the emotional core of it is so incredibly strong. Matter of fact, i never saw a horror movie where I cared so much about the characters and their dynamics so much after the first 10 minutes. And of course, “I love you, I have always loved you” has me sobbing every time I see it. Perfect writing, perfect directing, perfect acting, perfect choices. Just, perfect film all around.
Loved the editing on this one Kat! Feel like it’s a big improvement that I didn’t know I needed 🤣 keep it up! 😊
OMG you made me laugh so much during this watch 😂 I can't wait for Part 2. 👍
Kat, keep going! The sequel film and the prequel film are both equally amazing!
A movie with very few dialogues but you fully understood the flow of the story without missing a detail. John did a brilliant job at highlighting every bits of details in the movie without even explaining anything.
Been waiting for this one Kat so much so ive never been here quicker. This is a banger of a movie
It was such a great experience seeing this in theatres, nobody dared eat their popcorn because of the dead silence lol. Love that you’re reacting to this!
The levels of relentless underlying tension and pacing in this film is next level, one of the most immersive movies I've seen in a very long time.
Can we all just agree that Kat's personality is S tier? Great reactions, serious and hilarious comments. The lady is a champ!
The theater experience for this movie and its sequel was insane. You glared at anyone making any noise. Quietest theater ever. Watch 2 and Day One. I love them both.
I couldn't believe how realistic the labor/birth scene was. I was blown away by Emily Blunt's acting. I've had 9 babies, and it is very rare to see a scene that portrays it accurately.
It was a truly unique experience to watch this in theaters bc the no sound for prolonged time really made the sudden noises, like knocking over a lantern was SO loud. It made little things that you might not ordinarily jumpscare to, you would. It was a wonderful theater experience.
Krasinski has said that this film is really the story of family dealing with the sudden death of a family member. But with scary monsters.
This movie was one of my favorite theater-going experiences in a LONG time. The whole place was, well, silent. The room picked up the vibe REAL quick. I didnt notice a single phone light, ring tone, talking kid (or adult for that matter), or crunching of snacks the whole time.
Just silence. The vibes were immaculate.
Please oh please oh please watch the Ninth Gate with Johnny Depp. No one ever reacts to it and it is a hidden gem. While not strictly a horror film it has horror elements along with darker spiritual subject matter. Trust me you will love it.
Ninth Gate is amazing! One of my favorite movies ever!
One of Polanski’s best! I really hope she reacts to this!
The ninth gate was boring garbage.

When the gift🎁 reaction exceeds everything you had hoped!!!🤯 THANK YOU Kat!!!👏🏾
I’m glad you liked it! I love this movie. I saw it in theaters, and it is one of the best theater experiences I’ve ever had. Everyone in the theater was super quiet watching this movie. People were afraid to eat their snacks or take a drink. It was a very unique shared experience.
SO glad you loved this movie!! It's one of my favorites too. I saw it in the theater with pretty good expectations (from seeing the trailer), but had NO idea I would be SO invested in it! I recommended this film in the comments here, so I hope my recommendation (yes - me, me, me, I, I, I 😆) along with others helped get it on your list! Loved your reaction! 🙌🏽 ❤
The thing about this movie I really love is the actual acting. Very little CGI alien. Simple story. Good acting makes it real.
I really want to love this flick, but I can't get over the silent baby. I could ALMOST buy the mother giving birth without a sound (although anyone that has witnessed childbirth would find it dubious) but there is no way in hell a baby could be silent without, like, severing the vocal chords. I just can't get over that one thing. The rest is fun and original and tense as hell. The flick is overcomplicated yet full of plot convenience.
My now-ex was rather quiet during childbirth by the time she'd had her third, so it's not outside the realm of possibility. As for the baby being quiet, it does happen. I have 4 kids and while none of them were silent, the youngest especially was a minimal-fuss baby. Aside from the obvious crying when startled or hurt, he'd just babble and coo to himself most of the time.
I'm not saying my experience with babies and my exes behaviour during childbirth are in anyway the norm so you're not too far off, but they do happen.
You should read a true story about another baby, might make the movie more believable. It's at "The Normandy American Heroes Blog", called "A piece of chocolate"
I assumed the baby did cry after birth but it was drowned out by the fireworks. I have witnessed babies being born and some of them only cry for 30 seconds to a minute.
Not all babies wail uncontrollably for hours on end the way people imagine. My youngest son could go for days without crying. And he only cried when he was very hungry and he wasn't fed on time. Once we worked that out we were all set.
It's amazing how quickly we adapt. Watching this movie I am so aware of all noises I make or what are present in my surroundings. It's like when the COVID lockdowns started I was watching a movie with people moving through a crowd and my first thought was "oh, that is sooo irresponsible..."
Wa wa wee wah! This one made you really anxious!
You're awesome, Kat.
This movie was practically non-stop suspense. That's hard to pull off without comedic relief. GREAT REACTION to this!!
'Jump scare' movies are not my thing, but they're perhaps unavoidable with sci-fi and post-apocalypse films so I ❤ watching Kat react to them. She's such an appealing presenter. I've watched several of her reaction videos, and I'm right there with her with her commentary and her defensive arm movements.
Speechless. I see what you did there, Kat.
I give this 5 out of 5 Whispers.

"This is sub-optimal." I laughed.
Alien killing machines that hunt by sound vs Mom with a shotgun. This will not end well for the aliens.
Also, best Dad ever. His patience and love for his kids is infinite.
Outstanding film, the atmosphere was so intense. Have not had a chance to see the sequel yet, hoping it lives up to the original.
This is truly an underrated masterpiece. They felt like a real family. - If you want another SUPER underrated film, "Shadow in the Cloud" starring Chloë Grace Moretz is phenomenal!
Hi I’m Freddy and I love watching Kat. ❤😁
It would be exponentially louder to do anything with the swing. Some compromises are made but they prepared and took care of things very well. I don’t think i have ever knocked a picture frame off a wall in my life. Glad you liked it Kat. This is such a phenomenal movie. I can count on one hand with less than five fingers how many movies have triggered an emotional response from me but this is one. I have three kids, so seeing John realize what he has to do and then doing it for his kids sake, always gets me. In my mind one of the many purposes a father serves is to do whatever is necessary for the well being of his family, whatever that might be. This is a fantastic family thriller set in a horrendous situation.
Too much loud hugging! is my favorite.
I'm in agreement with you. It's highly unbelievable that they would survive considering their lack of attention to their surroundings.
I loved seeing this in theaters. I remember the sheer terror I felt when he was ordering his son to come with him, not because I was afraid of what might happen onscreen, but because I was seeing so effectively from the son's point of view that i was feeling HIS terror. It's so well done. Also it was funny as hell watching the audience go from nervous giggling to panicked gasps and aggressively shushing everyone. Someone stepped on a plastic something at one point and the OUTRAGE was amazing. We were all completely sucked in without even realizing it, but god help anyone who made a noise in the theater. Such a good time, and a genuinely well done movie. I didn't like the sequel but I'll still see the third. And I was so mad I loved it because I have an irrational dislike of John Krasinski and how DARE HE make the first really good pg13 horror movie in like a decade?!
Absolutely the BEST line of the reaction: "Does not like to be shot in the head!" LMFAO! Love ya Kat!
