Good video, but the title is a bit misleading. The conclusion was that RO filtering in general is good, but the filter manufacturer did a bad job. The title made it sound like all RO filtering is not safe.
The internal tank OR filter released these chemicals; but, the filter problem apparently also exists in commercial RO systems. So, title was actually not misleading.

She said that the purified water had been tested after 2 weeks of use, and the recommended 3 gallon flush at the beginning. It had been rinsed plenty and this still showed up
@@commie281 On an actual RO system hooked up to a tap it's recommended to flush for 30 minutes. So consider how little 3 gallons is to flush, and how little 2 weeks of use is for such a system that is used to just fill a glass of water at a time.
Thank you for your work. Looking forward the RO comparison. Would be very interesting also to compare the micro and nano plastic content after RO depuration. Particularly if we consider that the 2024 NIH study on plastic particles in bottled water proved that many of those particles derive from water purification processes
I agree. Unfortunately, testing for mircoplastics is extremely expensive. And testing for nanoplastics isn't even an option that labs offer at this point.
Based on the study you guys linked, it's more than likely that the chemicals are from the manufacturing process. Methylene chloride seems to be prevalent in membrane/polymer manufacturing, and it's either remaining in the membrane material or not removed properly as part of quality control. Have you looked at other RO membranes? It seems this might be a widespread issue and not limited to Waterdrop.
Wow! I have been using the waterdrop N1 countertop RO system for the past 3-years but just assumed the water was pure due to the low TDS. Now you have me wondering if my water is safe. Update- I took apart my system to check for any chemical reservoirs and there are none. Just the filters, tubing two pumps, a front holding tank that contains the UV LED and TOC sensor, power supply and controller board. The big pump is a LEFOO RO booster pump and that does the main pumping through the RO membrane filter. The water then goes into a clear front holding tank that you can't see unless you take the front cover off. That has the UV LED at the bottom. Then there is a small pump that pumps from the front tank to where the water comes out. I am wondering if there was a misinterpretation of what they said was performed in the manufacturing process. Very strange. There are rubber seals and two of them felt as if they were lubricated with something like petroleum jelly. It had that feel to it. Maybe that is the source???
We are still in contact with Waterdrop and they told us that there is no sanitizer in the A1. Those lubricants are usually food-grade silicone. We will post an update on this whole topic asap!

I built a portable version of the multi stage systems that are commonly installed under kitchen sinks. Each one of those stages is a plastic tube that contains some volume of water. So any time it sits that means each stage has standing water. I installed a t connector and a valve to allow flushing of the entire prestage before it reaches the RO membrane. People who maintain fresh and saltwater aquariums have been doing it for years to ensure the purest water goes into their tanks since even the slightest contamination can kill off a tank full of various expensive tropical fish and corals.

What about Waterdrop G2 RO system ? The one you put under the countertop ? I bet G2 uses different kind of membrane. But I'm wondering if it's cause cancer too ? If you can do a test on G2 , that would be great .
It definitely uses a different membrane, but we've never tested the G2. However, the G3P600 and X12 turned out fine. The G2 is on our list but I can't promise any fast results.

@@boswater6065 You mentioned elswhere in these comments doing the "Ultimate" test from ETR labs, I found their price for that to be $799. Do you have any advice - I'm reluctant to buy a $800 test for my filtered water but $200 is ideal!
We use their premium test kit. That's around $250 I believe. A comparable test by Tap Score costs a little bit more. These are the only 2 tests we've used so far, and they cover a lot of contaminants. Totally understand that you don't want to spend $800. Maybe go with the $250 kit? I don't really know any good low-cost alternative.
That statement from Waterdrop is interesting. But their statement and this video seem to spurn more questions than answers. So is there a disinfectant reservoir located somewhere inside the guts of their machine? If so, what exactly are the chemicals in it? Is this part described in the manual that comes with the machine? Is this industry standard?
You may have mentioned this in another video or answered this below - if so, I apologize - but does this concern apply to other waterdrop systems, like the waterdrop g3p800? Curious since I just purchased this unit but cannot find that information anywhere. Thanks!
This can apply to any water filter using a reverse osmosis membrane. We've tested many other RO systems in the meantime and found a few others with issues (some leaching chemicals above and some below health guidelines). We haven't tested the Waterdrop G3P800, but we tested the G3P600 and this one was fine. Also, the G3P800 holds some NSF certifications so it was tested for material safety and structural integrity. This means that it may leach chemicals, but if so then the leaching didn't exceed the allowable concentrations, because otherwise the system wouldn't have received a certification - hope that makes sense.
@@boswater6065 , Thank you. Can you just say if G3P600 is safe? I bought it and waiting for your video to come out to decide weather to install it or not.
Thank you. There are a few stainless steel ROs, but at least those that I know are only partially stainless steel. So for example, they still use plastic filter cartridges, so not really ideal. There're also systems like the AquaTru Carafe that collect the filtered water in a glass container. But again, plastic components are used, too. It's always food-grade plastic, but I understand your concerns.
Curious your thoughts on a whole house system vs. individual filters at the sink/shower/etc. seems like the upkeep of these small systems is pretty expensive vs whole house just needs solar salts? But whole house is a big investment, would love your thoughts!
It depends on your water quality and what you want to achieve. A filter at the point of use may be required to remove all contamination out of your drinking water, and a whole house filter might not do the drink. But a whole house filter will probably do a much better job cleaning your shower water than a shower filter. But you mentioned solar salts, so I'm assuming you are looking into water softeners? Water filters and water softeners are 2 different things. If you want to soften your water then you definitely need to go whole house.
It is for sure. Yes, RO softens hard water. But whole house RO is extremely expensive (for one it requires proper pre and post-treatment of the water). And unless your water quality is really bad, whole house RO might be over the top. Maybe it makes sense to have your water quality tested first.

We always used to recommend the Waterdrop G3 series, but never had any lab testing done. We are working on a larger under sink RO comparison video, but it'll take a while to complete. Sorry, this is all I have right now.
theres a lot of soapy stuff that comes out when flushing a new filter. I wonder if the residual last a long long time - which would be very bad! They should recall this system, esp since the hot water function doesnt even work well!
Because... cheap Chinese manufacturers. They have no problem injuring their own people for a buck, why would anyone else be given additional consideration?
Could it be a false positive? I think you should have done at least 3 tests with 3 samples sent in 3 different times and at same lab and then 3 tests with 3 different labs. That would give a more accurate answer
No false positive. We'll post an update on this next week. Btw, I totally agree that more testing is always better, but at around $250 per test kit, this gets very expensive really fast.

After such negative tests results, damaging sales of the product, I find it disparaging that you did not request another sample model, or review another model from Waterdrop. Isn't the main issue with plastic bottles due to extreme temperatures (hot or cold) forcing these chemicals out of the plastic?
I think UV light and warm temperatures accelerate the process but I might be wrong.

Bad pronounciation.... Australian.. .???
Filters are made of plastic. Massive amount of surface area in contact with your water. No thanks. Spring water and distillation for me.
Thanks for sharing!
Do you guys test distilling water filter systems? Wont those be better since theres no ro membrane?
Yes, distilled water is basically pure H2O. But you'd definitely need to remineralize. There's also the energy consumption and it's a time-consuming process. But we will definitely test water distillers in future!
@@boswater6065 you do not need to put minerals in your water! you are supposed to get your micrnutrients and minerals from fruits mostly and to a lesser degree veggies, R/0 water is for cleansing and water in general is to clense the body not hydrate or for minerals, if you work out and you want to replace minerals but actual coconuts and drink the water from them and melons end of story, a lot of you youtubers need to step your game up and stop presenting false information
damn those labs ain't cheap you can go as high as $800 for their top of the line test. I got a 16 item test +coliform test from amazon for 27 bucks water looks pretty good w/o RO filter
The question is how reliable these tests are...
Hot water and plastic, terrible combo. Could the chemicals be coming from this?
No, since we tested the cold water.
Great information video. What is appropriate cost for the lab test?
Ours is a little more than $200 per water sample. But it also depends on how many and which analytes you are testing for.
Never thought I would need to lab test RO water. Heh.. Eye opener. Thanks for the video.. I use ispring 5 stage system.
Glad it helped!
click bate its only about a specific reverse osmosis device
I see your point. However, based on the study we covered in the video, it is quite possible that more RO systems are affected.
Do you think this applies to the aquatru system? I am very nervous about RO systems
It doesn't. We tested it.
@@boswater6065 thanks for your answer. As I'm currently in the process to buy an aquatrue.. 🙂
@@boswater6065so is aquatru a good filter?
Hi, great video! I would be interested in a watertest for the Waterdrop K6. Have you tested it before? Greetings from Germany :)
Not tested yet, but it's on our list.
There is no disinfectant reservoir inside the machine. We're still in contact with Waterdrop and they told us. We will post an update on this asap.
Can you please test the Bluevua RO system.
We did and we will publish a video on that soon!
@@boswater6065 thank you
is the waterdrop g3 600 or 800 affected by this too?
G3P600: No. G3P800: Not tested yet.
Were the chemicals elevated in the regular/untreated tap water?
No.
@@boswater6065 Interesting....definitely something with the machine!
This is why 24 years ago I switched from ROS to distiller to distill tap water into pure water.
Did you really know about that 24 years ago? Would love to learn more!
Have you tested the Sun pure system? Just bought one and wondering if I made a mistake.
No, we haven't.
thanks for sharing, super helpful
Thanks for watching!
I would love to get our filtered water tested. Where do you send yours?
We use ETR Labs.
In what lab did you send the RO water in?
We use the Premium Water Test by ETR Labs.
I see you have a review of the waterdrop G3 but the video doesn't mention water tests. Have you done water tests for the G2 or G3?
Very, very soon for the G3P600!
@@boswater6065 , Thank you. Can you just say if G3P600 is safe? I bought it and waiting for your video to come out to decide weather to install it or not.
It was safe! No Leaching.
yikes... great review. Is there a stainless steel RO unit that is worth looking into? What about all these plastic components leaching over time?
What countertop RO machines are good?
We have a video on that on the channel!
Have you tested waterdrop N1 countertop filter. Does that one have chemicals?
No, not yet. But it's on our list!
@boswater6065 please test that soon. If that's the case it is dangerous to have this filter. I appreciate your video!
Can you please review bluedot water filter. Thank you.
Added to our list!
Can anyone tell me if the g2p600 is safe to use?
It didn't leach any chemicals in our recent testing.
Grateful for this video, and water test!
Glad it was helpful!
Can you send a link to the lab contact info? Thanks

Thanks mom
What about water drop K19
Haven't tested this one yet, but it's one our list.
Can you test the waterdrop D6? We just bought this system!
I've added it to our list!
@@boswater6065 hmm, we looked at a RO whole house system that also softens the water from my understanding? Is that a thing?
It is for sure. Yes, RO softens hard water. But whole house RO is extremely expensive (for one it requires proper pre and post-treatment of the water). And unless your water quality is really bad, whole house RO might be over the top. Maybe it makes sense to have your water quality tested first.

I am searching the best undersink RO system and Waterdrop X series was under my radar....Now, I dont feel comfortable to purchase X series. What is your recommendation of undersink RO systems?
We always used to recommend the Waterdrop G3 series, but never had any lab testing done. We are working on a larger under sink RO comparison video, but it'll take a while to complete. Sorry, this is all I have right now.
@@boswater6065You guys ever get a chance to test the G3 for this problem? Thanks!
Yes. Video coming soon!
theres a lot of soapy stuff that comes out when flushing a new filter. I wonder if the residual last a long long time - which would be very bad! They should recall this system, esp since the hot water function doesnt even work well!
Can you please review some other Waterdrop systems, I have one of the larger systems and I am pretty concerned.
We're doing so right now!

Hello, thanks for your video. I cannot understand why such products are release with this kind of problems...
Because... cheap Chinese manufacturers. They have no problem injuring their own people for a buck, why would anyone else be given additional consideration?
What about Dichloromethane
dichloromethane = methylene chloride
I’m curious the results for G3
Will publish asap!
@@boswater6065 why don't raise funds from people and do that properly so that everyone would benefit from this learning and see if we would be really in health danger? We've never tested this one but it looks like a combination of whole house carbon water filter and salt-free water softener/conditioner. Is it a good system? Well, what is it that you want to achieve?
How to test my crystal quest system
You could use a water test kit from ETR Labs or Tap Score.
Is the blueva r0100 safe?
Yes
Good job on exposing them. Their bs reply is very telling of what kind of company they are. I'll call it evil.
After such negative tests results, damaging sales of the product, I find it disparaging that you did not request another sample model, or review another model from Waterdrop. After watching your top 10, with glowing reports from another manufacturer (with links to purchase), it almost seem as though your reviews may be profit driven, (one persons opinion). Nonetheless, I believe for parity, since your review was so negative, it would have been fair to request another model to verify these results.
Did you watch the entire video? Someone completely independent from us (Derek from Modern Castle) found the exact same chemical with his unit. Also, Waterdrop has basically confirmed our findings in the meantime. We'll post an update on this next week. Btw, yes, this channel is run based on affiliate commissions which we are 100% open and honest about. But we are also participating in Waterdrop's affiliate program. In other words, not recommending the Waterdrop A1 was the worst possible move we could have made from a financial perspective.
It has been months. Any updates? Also you've rated multiple systems but you didn't mention in that video these findings or these test being ran on those under sink systems. Thank you so much for the money and time spent. We really need an update.
@@boswater6065 ok, understood, thanks.
I’ll probably be opting for an aquarium style Ro, and accept the fact of a small inconvenience. Ill adapt to my faucet, fill a few 1gal glass jugs, then disconnect, as I’ll only be using 1-2g a day. I guess this is too much high tech for a little convenience for the amount I will use. I worked for culligam years ago, so understand the basic ro concept. Thanks
@Mr.C-Mister Update will be coming this week hopefully. We ran the same tests on all our countertop and under sink RO systems. Most were without problems. You can check our Google sheets - they contain all the data you need.

No, we never even heard of it. But I've checked it out and it's on our list!
The Sans water purifier is on our list, but I cannot promise if/when we'll test it - there are just so many products out there and we have to prioritize the most popular ones.
