This is especially helpful if you’re looking for a specific color for your mosaic, but you don’t want to buy a large bag…..or maybe the color isn’t even manufactured. @@JulieWeilbacher I've used the acrylic paint method and it worries me because I think it maybe weakens the overall chemical structure of the grout. I don't know if that's true or not

Hi Brigitte! I'm so happy you found my channel too! Welcome!🙌 Mica powders won't work in the grout. It would be a waste of money. If you decide to seal your grout once it's cured, you could try mixing the mica powder with the sealer (how to seal mosaic art: ruclips.net/video/5JqZU5ucM_k/видео.html). You're better off using one of the methods from the video. They're tried and true. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Excellent pointers; ever tried staining grout after it's dried? Makes it possible to use multiple grout shades and colors within one project. Personally I like permanent markers prior to sealing the grout.....( I actually should have said prior to sealing because I think you would have trouble adhering the marker over sealed work. My apologies.)
That sounds like a good idea! Do they change colour over time once sealed?
Hi Thorn! Thanks for watching, and great to hear you enjoyed it. Yes, I've stained grout before. I don't like the look as much but it's helped in certain situations. Now permanent marker is interesting. Are you doing large areas with the markers? Does it 'run' during sealing, or fade once the sealer has dried? Thanks for sharing your experience. Julie can you tint grout already made or can you only tint the dry grout. I only have ready made grout. enjoyed the grout color video thank you
Hi Marion! Yes, you can tint pre-made grout. However, the consistency might be a bit 'off'....in other words it might get a little runny. I would keep a small bag of dry grout in your studio to drizzle in if that happens. They sell small (7lb boxes) of grout. Have fun!
Hi Julie, if I am using a premade steppingstone from a big box store do I seal the stone BEFORE or AFTER I start the stone? I’m a bit confused as to whether I am sealing the stone or the grout. If I use the adhesive and grout combo do I need to seal?

Great info! Are all of these colorants fairly UV resistant for outdoor mosaics, or is there one method that you would most recommend for outdoors?

So my question is, can I use WHITE thin set as an adhesive for stained glass and then use gray thin set as a grout?

How do you know if you ha e compressed the hour ratio?
Hi Cathleen! You can set a timer on your phone, oven, or clock to make sure you haven't gone over. As time goes on you'll notice the grout or thinset loses moisture and starts to become harder, sometimes to the point of crumbly. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Do you use a particular brand of cement oxide powders?

Would it matter if the acrylic craft paint I have is the quick dry?? Thanks!
Hi Shelly! Great question.....and honestly, I'm not sure. I've never worked with quick dry paint. My suggestion would be to do a test first before working with your actual mosaic. I would tile a small (read: simple) mosaic 4x4 or smaller, grout it, and then watch it over the next few days or so to see how the grout reacts. Does it crack or shrink? Is the color what you want? Then you can confidently proceed. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here! 🔥

Okay i know this is an off the wall question but have you ever tried using strange things like kool-aid packets, food coloring, or rit dye?
Hhmmmm, Kool-aid.....never. It's food-based, plus there's so many other great/better options. Food coloring might produce a pastel/muted tone. And Rit Dye is an interesting thought. It's hightly pigmented,....but I'm not sure that would translate once mixed with grout. You've got me thinking now! We might need to do a part 2 video.😉 Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!

Hi. I do a little alcohol ink painting.... I love it, but it fades in light over time. I don't know how well it would color grout or thinset. I haven't tried it. But I would be concerned alcohol ink would fade with UV light exposure.
What about mica powder or alcohol ink or food coloring?
Hi KMF! TBH, I haven't tried any of the 3 you mentioned. However, after this video came out I had folks reach out to me to discuss their experience with using them and they were disappointed. A muted color was the biggest complaint. Maybe I need to do a little experimenting of my own and report back!🤔 Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🌟

I used Micah powder once. I thought I’d get sparkly purple grout. I used most of my product trying to make it happen. Never did work. 🙄
