Dude, I tried your crazy ass grip and I love it! I was a pencil grip and/or 4 finger 3 on the barrel guy thinking I needed tight control. Your video loosened me up and now my throw flows so much better. Thank you!
I’m dealing with this same issue. We throwing really good until maybe 5 days ago. And now I’m in a funk, I can’t seem to find my grip or throw in general. The more I practice the worse it gets.
I have a really hard time not aiming while trying to fix my grip/form, but one thing I tried that helped a bit was that I rotated my dartboard so the 20 is not at the top, i put it at the side or bottom which kind of subconsciously makes me not worry about what number I'm hitting.
Try and Play in the dark, so you can just see the board but not the numbers/segments, then you have only the dark circle of the whole board to “aim” at
I used to use my ring finger while holding the dart, which felt comfortable, but added a lot of unwanted spin to my throws. Started using only the pointer and middle fingers and bam, accuracy went through the roof hahah. Thank you very much for the informative video !
I had the same issue, used the same solution, also added some more separation between middle and point finger on the barrel..accuracy and consistency improved drasticaly
For me the only way to fix it it by stop playing for few days. Throwing 1 hour + will make your finger tired. Without knowing it. Then suddenly you will thinking to change darts.
Thanks for posting this, really good info here! I have the same struggles as you mentioned where I will lose my grip and the confidence that comes with it. I also struggle often w/ playing amazing at home for multiple sessions and then going to a live tourney and completely losing the feel/consistency. I like your suggestions and knowing someone of your calibre struggles the same way at times, gives me more confidence I'm not a freak and hopefully those tips get it back more quickly.
That’s a big part of my videos is letting players know that we all have the same struggles! If you talk to the top PDC players, you’ll see they have the same struggles. Only difference is they can still throw in the 90s+ with struggles 😂😂 keep it up coach!

Just watched this and has been very helpful. I have been struggling the past few months and confidence is at a zero. Hopefully I can get my grip and confidence back.
Thank you! This was everything I needed to hear. My PPD had dropped 3 PPD from last season and nothing felt right. I spent a night finding what was comfortable, and it was similar but different to my old grip. Still takes concentration not to fall back into my old grip, but it will become natural with time.
Very convincing! after the 180 I had to subscribe. I have exactly that kind of problem, and I really hope that this tips can help. Beside from that, this actually is the first decent darts tutorial I have seen anywhere yet. 👌
The best way would be to use the same darts and just switch tips, but as far as going back and forth, it’s just a matter of adjusting for a few days before the event
Thank you for this video! I've been struggling on my grip for the past few months and I wanna ask for some advise. I use 3 fingers and I kinda wrap my 4th finger ( the one beside the thumb, i dont know what to call it ) and my 3rd finger is on the point. I really have this uncomfortable feeling every time I throw. Sometimes, my throw can't reach the 20's and it just goes everywhere. Do you have any tips about this? Cause i feel like all of my practices are always in vain and I dont see the result. Thank you.
Hey! So it’s kind of hard to help without seeing it, but if it doesn’t feel comfortable, switch up your grip until something feels right. Doesn’t focus on targets, focus on feeing comfortable then when it does the darts will start to hit!
Thanks for posting this. I think grip and follow through are permanently paired - and I have come to realize recently that my grip is affected by my footing too. I totally agree with your point on the bullseye. Una pregunta...what do you do to keep your hands dry during a match or tournament? Are you a fan of chalk or rosin? Keep posting - love your videos.
Hey man! My hands generally don’t get too sweaty, unless it’s super humid, but I have had that problem before and I’ll always wash my hands between every match, then I just use my shirt as a towel between throws if needed and blow on them. I don’t like chalk or resin, always makes me feel weird having something on my hand
i feel like my dart has been twirling to the board. ive thought about changing stem length. i have tried other barrels which may have made things worse. need to focus on my soft tip barrels since thats all i really play . maybe conversion points will help me
Shaft length and flight size will help, but also make sure you’re holding the dart straight to the board and releasing straight. Longer shaft with bigger flight will help stabilize. Good luck!
I totally understand the grip thing. It happens to me. i will be practicing and hitting everything, it seemed, but as soon as i play someone, my grip deserts me and i don't hit ish it's so frustrating 🙃

Okay I need help 😅 when I hold the dart the way it feels most comfortable for me, they all land with the flights looking to the right, never stick straight 😢 what can I change?
Weirdly enough, i discovered on my own that throwing at the bullseye is a way for me to "reset" my mind...if that makes any sense. Like,if I am having a bad moment, I just step back, take a deep breathe and then throw at the bullseye until I feel confident again...even if I don't hit it that much, just by throwing at it,helps with my aiming/throw around the board. It is like a reset button for me...too bad I can't do it when I am having a match😅
Ive almost lost my stance and am in the process of trying keep as still as i can during practice and maybe slowed down slightly. Like ive gotten a little sloppy overtime there.
I get that too sometimes where I can’t seem to eliminate a shake or sway in my stance. Keep consistent and once you get through it, you’ll be better than before!
I always recommend only three fingers because less contact on the barrel gives less room for mistakes, but if the ring finger feels good on there, by all means do what’s comfortable for you!

Im new to darts. Playing an hr a day last 3 weeks. Havent found my throw yet. Ive had the most accuracy with a loose grip, 2 fingers on top and thumb on bottom. No curving just a little sandwich. I keep my wrist straight from my forearm. I think my throw has too much arc and is too soft for deflections. I am debating if I should force myself to a different grip. I know I will decline in short term but hopefully long term it will be better. I notice you angle your wrist back and you use your thumb to press the dart against your pointer finger. I tried your throw. I found the darts throws are faster and have a spiral that I havent had before. I am releasing it too late. Hey Nil welcome to darts! Awesome to hear you’re getting in a lot of practice and dedicated to improving your game! As far as inspiration for my grip, I’ve always done what’s comfortable for me. It took me over a year of throwing to get to the grip I have now, nd even then, I still make minor adjustments here or there. But my throw as a whole, Phil Taylor was my biggest inspiration. Thanks for the video. I have only been playing for less than 1 yr and have been watching many videos about proper throwing motions. I noticed that a lot of professionals and you included tend to pause with the dart in front of the eye prior to coming forward with the follow through. Are you aiming at this time? I tried to practice taking my dart slower back, even stop to aim a bit like Phil Taylor, but everytime I do it my dart ends up flying in the 1,5, 12 or even 18. However, when I bring my arm back and forward faster, I hit my targets more consistently (more often singles with a few trebles and doubles). I would like to hit more 180s and doubles more often and more consistently, so is it a problem to do what I do? I don't feel like I'm aiming at all. Any advice? thanks for any input.
Hey! So this comes down to comfortability. When I pause before throwing, that is when I’m doing my aiming, but you don’t have to pause to aim. MVG flows for his whole throw but he def is aiming somewhere in that throw. So it all comes down to what’s comfortable for you!
For design there’s the shape of the barrel then the grip pattern. The grip pattern doesn’t have an effect for me personally, and wouldn’t think it would for other players, but the shape of the barrel can def be a determining factor for your grip
You are naturally a front gripper. I know this because your index finger is pointing in the air because you can't get to lay on the barrel and your playing more to the back of the barrel bet you hit a lot of 1s and 5s. reason for this is you use your middle finger on the point as a stabiliser then your place thumb in the middle of the barrel which is to much of a stretch ..reason why pointer finger won't drop....move your thumb closer to the point index finger will drop good by 1s and 5s
I’ve tried many different grips and I go with what’s most natural and comfortable. Having my index finger laying on the barrel has always felt very uncomfortable for me
You wrongly state grip, then you continue more correctly by saying hold. Nobody should grip the dart. The dart must grip you, it sounds strange but it's fact.
huh??? how to "re-find" your dart grip... "try a lot of different things to see what works"... ??? are you looking for your grip again, or are you looking for a NEW grip?? Not making sense.
You’re looking for your comfortable grip. Everyone’s grip is always evolving, what feels comfortable one day won’t another day so you make minor adjustments to make it comfortable again, thus re-finding your (comfortable) grip.
Stop saying grip, you only think you do it, you don't, you need to get the dart to grip you. You throw the invisible dart. In darts it's a treble not a triple, it comes from the sound of the dart hitting the treble nothing to do with a multiple segment.

Okay I need help 😅 when I hold the dart the way it feels most comfortable for me, they all land with the flights looking to the right, never stick straight 😢 what can I change?
As long as it feels comfortable that’s okay. If you see a good view of all players darts, a lot of players have darts that stick in a bit sideways

huh??? how to "re-find" your dart grip...
Whatever floats your boat!
