Love the concept of deck score. I was skeptical on how the no reprints would work in creating a balanced gameplay as the game progressed and player count grew. The deck score concept is a very cool mechanism and I can see the balancing act it plays against no reprints. Really appreciated this video and excited for the release of WOTF.
This break down is just sick!!! Really cool to see inside the mind of someone so high level and how they approach making a game that’s fun to play accessible and extremely collectible with the epics and mythics!!!
I've been following the development of this game for a while! The playtesting was so much fun--and I am loving hearing about it from Brian himself! This is a great deep dive!
Having deckbuilding power on each card is ingenious. It solves a ton of the problems with no reprints, and adds additional complexity and strategy to deckbuilding. Looking forward to it!
Nested Set Principle! I love this. Details at minute 29:31 to 32:10 -- basically build a strategically deep deck with commons/uncommons/rares and not get into an expensive card chase situation or chase the upper tier of Rare/Epic/Mythic cards to deck build. Both deck build strategies exist and can compete one serves players one serves collectors....but it requires a large set! Hope I translated that right! But The Nested Set Principle....Love Love Love it! I'm all in for WOTF! Brian you stud...lead the way baby.
Also I would absolutely love if this got a bigger following. I sincerely hope this game doesn’t become so restricted and complicated like Magic has, I’d love to be able to play more casual with friends
I am coming from lot of TCG that have multiple reprints and was never the type to collect. The reasoning behind that was because I would collect and then the cards were never treasured due to the reprints. The fact that this game had a NO REPRINT policy is really appealing to me. Hoping I can get the early cards and play a fun ccg and all the while my cards in my collection become treasured cards.
At best I'm still a skeptic about the no reprint policy. When asked about it, Brian's three points were: - The point system would serve as a format filter and limiter for meta dominating cards. It's overly optimistic at best because you'd need to constantly evaluate individual cards, which is hard to do in a vacuum. Ie. cards aren't necessary good by themselves but rather by how they interact with other cards. Likely, they'll use the point system as a soft ban on certain cards by heavily penalizing players that use them. Its success will be entirely contingent on how receptive players are to the point system overall, and I suspect forcing players to look up card values and essentially building a deck online before building one in real life to gauge points is going to be a deterrence more than an incentive. - Players will police each other in a multiplayer format. . . which is currently non-existent. He alludes to MTG commander, where the strongest players may get ganged up on, but it kind of dodges the question about how this addresses 1v1--the ONLY way to play Wonders so far. - The marvel snap progression of the game mitigates extreme early game snowballs and instant wins. There's a bit of truth to this, as 7 different lanes that spawn at different times will diffuse early all-in strategies. But as marvel snap has shown, it's entirely possible to still have broken combos, especially if designers allow cards in one lane to affect cards in another lane. This'll be a huge design caveat moving forward for the team and will be either a bane or boon depending on how it's applied I'll be keep an eye on the kickstarter and youtube channel over the next few weeks. I'd like to see the game succeed because I think there's space for a paper Marvel Snap to exist but boy, this whole no-reprint policy is setting off a glaring red flag that needs quelled for many potential players, such as myself.
I won’t say wonders is “easy”. But the core mechanic is much easier than any CCG I’ve seen. 30 minutes to learn. A lifetime to master. That feels appropriate to explain it.
Met Brian at the public game day and Jeff is 100%. So humble and so willing to accept feedback.
Exactly who you want building a game.

Talk about a home run….the gameplay, the artwork and the lore are all top notch!!! Can’t wait for this to hit shelves
Great to learn more about the foundations for the game!
So genuine. I love when private companies have the latitude to break a mold.
I have never been a strategy card game player, but I am very interested in this. Can’t wait to check it out.

A not so hidden nuance of accessibility for sure.
How would you run tournaments with the point tiers?
So excited for this to come out! This looks to be one of the best thought-out games in history! LFG!

Great interview. I’m going to find Brian’s book and start reading!
Definitely see conventional meet and greet game plays and turnys and possible competitive league type series or deck point titles or significance.
I can't wait for this!

Is there going to be a Slither like card/monster type? Something like Tyranids from Warhammer?
yesss! been waiting for this 😎
Looking forward to it.
Interesting man. Wonder what games he got to test that are now on the market
Very impressive
Awesome stuff.
Im following.
I can't wait I wonder will it be a game of 4 or 1 v1
The no reprint gives a nice premium. Will be awesome
I have got to learn how to play, I have 0 experience with games like this.
