    Power tubes just do something to you tone that you really can't get any other way IMHO. It's sort of like a compression, but I would describe it as taking the transient and mixing it in a blender with some rum and strawberries and serving it up with some whip cream on top.

      You're mixing apples & oranges. Of course they are going to sound different. The tech of tubes vs. SS is totally different. I also prefer tube heads, but there is a place for SS sometimes...all just depends on what you like and what kinda tone you're looking for.

    I had one in the 90's - into a Marshall 4x10 - sunburst '77 Precision, could lift the roof and took 2 people to carry... 4 KT 88's - built '71 and still the same valves, my buddies got it now, he's a drummer - came in for the rehearsal in his shed and the amp was still switched on - for 2 weeks.

    I played one of these the other day and I can't stop thinking about it. I have the Ampeg PF-50T and I love it, but this blows it out of the water.

    Luv the head and 2 x 12" speaker cab... I hope they still make these for a fair price, 100w valve should be pretty loud enough for pub gigs... Will have to check this out if still made by Ampeg... Good demo bud... Really nice tone, a great combo for practise sessions and small gigs... wonder how loud it goes before breaking up ?..... 👍

    it would take another video with a passive bass to feel all the real timbre of the amplifier

    Those heads are great for guitar too, sounds like live Rolling Stones. I can't remember what cab it was plugged into but I'd bet there are several cabs that it work great for guitar.

      Yeah, I tried that once when I first began playing guitar growing up, and then I went ahead and opted for Ampeg when I got back into music and I had to replace my old amp. For the price range and my budget, I wasn’t satisfied with any of the available typical dedicated guitar amps available. I decided to go with an Ampeg because they are absolute powerhouses of amplification and I’ll never go back. I now use it as a preamp but my sound is nowhere close to what it would be without it. I’ve never played through anything else that was remotely as satisfying.

    I'm happy to hear how neutral it sounds flat. That's how a bass amp should sound flat.

    Is he running through a compressor? I've never heard a V4B that sounded that squished.

    Ampeg really needs to work on their breakup more with there gain if they really wanna last in this modern game of new amps.

      Classics remain classics for good reason. Most commonly known and used bass amp rig = Ampeg.

      I think the whole point is they’re not trying to keep up with modern amps, they’re cornering the vintage tube bass market because no one else will touch it.

      @lordundhimself1310 4 года назад +1

      I dont think they're worried about keeping up. I also agree with op. I'm learning that when i want nice, creamy tube breakup, i dont go to Ampeg. Ampeg is where you go for beautiful clean tones, i guess.

    If that music man is active. Its not a good demo for the v4b . I dont understand why not use a passive bass . It will give you a true sound .

    What a horrible demo. Sorry. I love some slap and pop but its not a good method of demonstrating tube warmth

      This re-issue has none of the warmth of the vintage V-4B.

    thats gain sucks

    • @bobstrete
      @bobstrete 7 лет назад +3

      I agree. I don't understand why all these newer "reissues" have that gain control. It just takes away from the natural volume that the vintage ones had. People want to get grit from the volume not the gain. Just my opinion. They need to stop calling these amps reissues. They're not.
