Lucky man having the skills to capture such amazing images as a "beginner" and having such great pals to hang out with too. Lovely lens, can't wait to see what else you capture with it. Am very pleased that final image was used a few times in the video.......they are all great but this one is just beautiful, those colours of the backdrop are perfect. THANK YOU
Looked like a fantastic and fun filled day. Great to see you trying something a little different Stewart and it seemed that you really enjoyed it. It's mostly macro for the warmer months and wildlife in winter for myself, so I can really relate to this video 100%. Always a pleasure to watch your uploads whatever the subject, so thank you for all your great content here on RUclips! ... Ps. That was awfully nice of Olympus, eh?! 😄👍
Resilience for reals! I chase em here in Colorado with an old manual Tamron 500 mirror. They do not like being shot and fly away half 'laughing/scolding' me. Not often I can even get 100 feet away before getting ridiculed but thet are SO beautiful...and small!
I got some great shots on the river stour of kingfishers ,throughout the day the kingfisher changed colour with the dropping sun going from bright blue to an electic green ( Tyndall effect) ..cold day and even colder feet wandering up and down the river ,best spot was where a little stream entered the river and the birds were feeding on fry who were feeding on whatever was in the water entering the main river ,top tip…I got a recording of kingfisher and play it ,within 10 minutes kingfisher appeared to checkout the noise ,landed literally at my feet ,in Leatherhead I can get the kingfisher to appear quite regularly with this recording
Do you have any issues using a bird caller? Is it ok to use, same question would go for baiting as well like having a propose build tank for kingfishers?
@ I just found a recording of kingfisher on utube and play it on my phone .surprising how far the sound travels, also can set up a perch ,I cable tie something interesting like rose hip to a stick and dig it in the bank overhanging the river ,kingfishers will always try a new perch,if they catch a fish from it they will use it again if they don’t they won’t ! U can make a goalpost in the river if it isn’t too deep and make the crossbar a nice stick with nice moss growing on it
I'm a bird photographer in Australia and we also have a variety of Kingfishers and I love shooting them. To get exceptional shots you do need expensive gear, there's no getting around that. That lens you have there is quality and impressive shots too👍
I have got some fantastic shots on the OM-1 at ISO 12800 properly exposed in camera. If i had underexposes two stop at 3200 or a stop at 6400 and tried to expose in post with the lower dynamic range at high ISO I would have ended up with a noisy less detailed image. Noise at high ISO occurs mainly in the shadows not in the bright area of the photo. I know you Stewart, of course you will try it for yourself and no doubt it will be the subject of a future youtube.
Awesome photo spot! I like your results. The belted kingfisher in my area are my nemesis. Between open areas and not enough reach, my closest encounter was accidental but I did snap a shot with my old iphone😂
Interesting you had to work so hard for Kingfisher in UK, here in India they are everywhere I see couple everyday in middle of city while walking my Dog. When we are out for wildlife we don't even stop for the Common and White breasted kingfishers unless they are hunting or mating.
Stewart, it is not better to underexpose wildlife to try to keep your ISO down. You will get better rests by raising the ISO and exposing for the subject. Because there is less noise in bright areas even at high ISOs. If you want clean images at high ISO expose correctly don't try to keep the ISO low and raise the shadows in post as this will result in a nosier image. I can prove this with examples. Good to see you getting into wildlife. Tip - shore birds and waders are far easier to photograph than songbirds and Kingfishers. Depends where you are and access.
I love capturing kingfishers 😭 so glad you're exploring wildlife photography ❤
More to come!

Thank you mate.
Great shots, loved the honest intro of “I’ve been sent £10k of equipment for free” 😂 Tell like it is.
I always do lol
Great video and beautiful shots
Thanks mate
Great vid, good to see what I call a natural vid, no cover ups. Plus you say it as it is 👍
Thank you.

M43 is a huge compromise.
@formermpc10 why?

This was my 6th time trying, the other 5 times the kingfisher never showed up.

It was hard mostly down to the wether lately, we have had two storms come though.

Good to know, I’ve been told different things from different people so I’m going to run my own tesst to find out for sure.
You should have used the EM1.2 or EM1.3 instead.
Why when I have the OM-1 mk2?
Nice video, makes me realise i need to get on a diet asap and keep my mouth shut ............ How common do i sound lol
I’ve already started my diet, but for other reasons lol
