9:03 Bill (he/him) - Atheist | How to overcome leftover fears after deconverting from religion?
24:58 Ka'ena (he/him) - Atheist | What would be a counter role we can inspire against the MAGA-conspiracy-theorist-believing-type of roles that are dominating a large part of today's discourse? [PS: I appreciate what Caller shared about native Hawaiian culture sooo much! The guaraní (a native population from the south east of Latin America, and the native people that lived here before America, the continent, was invaded) also had a similar way of thinking and preserving resources and human community. And sorry for the long rant.]
1:10:07 This Week on The Line.
1:14:35 Fred (he/him) - Theist | Caller is not only a theist, but a Trump supporter... and claims that hosts "don't want to hear arguments other than their own," that they "hate the Christian god AND theists."
1:21:32 Amir (he/him) - Theist | Caller claims that "atheists are irrational" and that the deism position is rational.
2:04:40 Ettuca (she/her) - Theist | Caller claims that there is only "One True God" that created everything.
2:19:42 Coffee Lover (he/him) - Theist | Caller calls in to explain why he believes god is real.
2:34:31 Jason (he/him) - Theist | Caller is a deist and claims that it's reasonable to believe that "a personal being made a conscious decision to set the Big Bang into motion."
3:03:35 Tony (he/him) - Theist | Caller calls in to update that he's still a Catholic.
Thank you good atheist.
Yay for the time stamps
You are awesome, Faia! Thank you again!
You're doing God's work.
...wait
I love Faia the most ❤
Future caller tip: Talking about how you are not going to waste time is....wasting time.
Thank you; I was grinding my teeth and I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.
Saying it once, quickly, as a side note, makes sense. I do this sometimes to quickly arrange my thoughts for rapid presentation.
But the amount of times we've heard theists spend tens of minutes just prancing around the topic and then complaining that they never got to present their point... is baffling.
Yes, or when the caller goes on about how they are going to "keep it short". That part of the conversation always makes it longer 🤪😃
😂😂 Yeah that was really hard to listen to. I still don’t even know what he was even trying to say. This guy spent the whole conversation talking about starting a conversation
"Can you hear me?"
The thing that both Matt and Jimmy don't get enough credit for is. that they really do listen. Intently. The chat with Jason near the end of this video is a real real good example, and was what made me think to write this out.
Those two in particular listen the absolute least of all of the athiest experience cast..
@@hunternewberry5860 really? would you like to elaborate on that?
@@hunternewberry5860 Nice opinion you got there, shame this video refutes it.
@@gregrruth how does a video with just those two refute the claim that they listen less than the rest of the athiest experience cast?... you would need to compare them to the rest at the very least...
@@Dez083 yes.. matt and jimmy jump in to refute caller claims faster than the rest of the athiest experience cast over the years. Theyre also the quickest two to anger when presented with conservative bigotry.
That Fred dude sounded like Ray Comfort faking a Mississippi accent.

Too young-sounding for Comfort but the prank was obvious from the start.

Andrew from Stone Church. There have been a few, like the infamous Pastor George.
@@jshaers96 they let andrew go on for far too long
I love the Jimmy and Matt show. As an 80-year-old lifelong atheist, I need no reenforcement where belief and non-belief are concerned (that issue was settled a LONG time ago), but I watch for the great entertainment value. Love to see you guys get all riled up. Great fun. Keep up the good show!
May you live to 1🏀🏀
I HATE when they ask a question, the caller does not answer, then they insist, and the caller goes "ok, what was the question?". This should be an automatic hang up
It’s because they weren’t listening. They were just waiting for their turn to speak.
@@JarlGrimmToys that is why I think it should be an automatic ban
@@zecawolf I don't agree: Watching people so painfully trying to think their way out of a cardboard box they put themselves in, on a show that has provided McGyvers entire arsenal of tools and tricks for years, is a valuable study of psychological disorders, and actually quite comedic in a morbid sort of way.
I don't think it should be an auto-hangup, i think it should be a "name and shame" affair, point out that they weren't listening, rub their face in their mistake.
@@kentonbaird1723 that is what they have done so far. It seems it is not working.
A theist telling an atheist they are going to hell is like an LOTR fan telling a Star Wars fan they're going to Mordor
The religion/fandom analogy is WAAY too apt. 😂 And the fundies are the ones ripping on GZ creators for having Pokemon stuff in their backdrops.
Such a good point by Jimmy around 1:44:30.
“And at that point I will become NOT an atheist, not because that one person guessed right, but because we counted the goddamn jellybeans.”
One of the biggest things most theists don’t understand, and one of the last things I had to learn to let go of my theism: whatever anyone else believes or thinks isn’t the point. The point is only claiming to know what we can actually see and show, and nothing more. It’s not about odds, it’s not about authority, it’s not about the stakes. It’s ONLY about only claiming what can be backed up, and not claiming things that can’t be backed up.
💯
How much retirement savings do you have? You can't see the future , but if you abstract things you can not see as if it does not exist you are facing ruin.
Atheists in forums talk like the Spock character on Star Trek - about only logic. But that's a farce.

"How do you make people value the truth?"
-Matt.
So succinct.
Speaking against God on a regular basis doesn't automatically make you a walking encyclopedia. You still have to venture outside the realm of apologetics and counter-apologetics to absorb knowledge about the world. No matter what side of the aisle you're on regarding apologetics, if you never venture outside out of that field, you'll know what, five or six truths at best? It doesn't really take a brain surgeon to figure out arguments against a religion filled with supernatural stuff.
As an atheist with a disability it is so weird to hear that Jimmy is close friends with Footless Jo. I started following her when I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia she’s amazing. Two of my worlds are colliding!

Ettuca was a real caller. I know a bunch of people who think exactly like she does. It's really sad they can't get out of the circular reasoning.

I think anger is my biggest issue. My family, the church. I'm hurt by them all the time which makes me angry. I see this world with religion and war ect and it makes me angry
So I love each and every last host on the Line, but when it comes to holding ridiculous theists' feet to the fire, I think you just can't beat the Matt/Jimmy duo. Love you guys so very much. Listening to you guys is so often therapy for me. Thank you so much for what you guys do.
Deism: "I believe in god because I like the word".
Hey, I could easily be wrong here - but I assume Amir subscribes to Russel Brand. And yes, it may very well just have been the accent that led me to the association.
That's probably more pantheism, taking the universe and calling it God just cause. Deism would be more "even though I can't defend the concept of God, I can't give it up".
Haven't you heard ...?
To be fair it can also come from a shitty understanding of the Kalam argument. I've basically always been an atheist but was briefly a deist in high school because I fell into the "well, where did this all come from?" hole, but then obviously dropped in just a couple years later once giving it more thought to realize how incoherent that argument is. Not everyone spends a lot of time seriously thinking about philosophy so I can excuse some casual deists out there, but yeah it's definitely embarrassing when someone has been exposed to the issues but still clings to it for no apparent reason.
Yes I also think Ettuca was real, I know a few people who argue exactly like that and have no conception or have never been exposed to the concept that scripture is just mythology from one of thousands of nations and is highly syncretic and follows religious trends of the time. It just happened to be one that survived. Ettuca also probably has no idea that 2/3 of all religious believers are Muslim, Hindu or some other non-Christian religion. I actually thought it was the religious apologist I know when I first heard the call.
Matt asked: "How do you make people value the truth more than the Kardashians?" I think learning Empathy would solve many of the problems. If a person can step outside of their comfort and "walk in the shoes of another", the understanding will cause them to value truth and compassion which could heal our nation. We don't have to have the ability to get pregnant to want abortion rights. We don't have to be Trans in order to want people to be who they are. We don't have to be Gay in order to understand that people love who they love and it won't diminish our lives in any way. I have never lost a child to a school shooting, however, I can certainly empathize with parents who have and vote for reasonable gun legislation. I am not religious, however, I want you to have the freedom to be religious IF that is your choice. It is really not difficult to understand, but I guess the question is... "how do you teach empathy?" How do you teach empathy to adults who grew up without it?
If you walk a mile in another man’s shoes, you’ve got his shoes and a head start.
I feel like for most people who lack empathy that unfortunately they can only really understand through having personal experiences of what others have dealt with but even then I wouldn't be confident cause some people are just the way they are

As an Englishman Amir is an embarrassment! "Process" that!
I've met many, many Ettacas. She's 💯% for real as much as she's 💯% dishonest and wrong.
Poor Ettuca- she's been indoctrinated at an elementary level of understanding, and is quite obviously way out of her league here. We all know very well that she will never be able to answer the question the hosts keep putting to her. She believes it because it is in the bible. The question is genuinely incomprehensible to people like her. This comes up again and again and again. It's fruitless trying to get them to see beyond this.
They're planting seeds though, also these conversations are mostly for those listening and questioning, not necessarily for the caller.
"No one wants to hear us talk about games"

" hi we spoke two years ago and I'm calling to let you know that nothing's changed"
It's always amazing when people think "intelligence", which is extremely limited, fallible and often wrong, is somehow evidence of god.
the only adjective that you used that could possibly apply to intelligence (and probably not in the way you intended it to) is "limited". using fallible and wrong as descriptors for intelligence is about as nonsensical as saying wind is fallible and wrong. the term you're probably looking for is "reasoning (skills)".
@@FackeYu The only form of intelligence known to humans is fallible and often wrong. You can make up sky "intelligence" that is "perfect" (guffaw) but it's bullshit, same as zeus and talking snakes. I can make up shit too so what.
@@FackeYu- Aren't reasoning skills typically considered to be an aspect of intelligence? Are all of those people wrong? If so, n what basis?
@@FackeYu Ironically this comment kinda illustrates their point perfectly.
@@TheSquareOnes all right, i'll bite.
explain how "fallible & wrong" are fitting descriptors for the word "intelligence".
you could make it fit if you were to equivocate and use the word "intelligence" synonymously with "information" (e.g.: intelligence collected within an intelligence program), but surely you wouldn't be that deceitful and try to weasel your way out of giving a proper answer via dishonesty.
we're talking about human intelligence here - the ABILITY to acquire & apply knowledge.
please, make an attempt at explaining how the (vague) MEASUREMENT/GAUGE of a person's ability to acquire & apply knowledge can be described as "fallible/wrong".
i hope you can give an excellent explanation, lest you come across as someone who thinks that height could be described as fallible or wrong (or any other noun that could [potentially] be used in conjunction with a numerical value).
lest you are that guy who thinks that giving a snappy response automatically means you're correct.
i'm sorry bud, but a proper response is gonna require more than a twitter-esque "say something that on the surface seems to be witty and run away before anyone thinks about it for more than a second and notices the flaw" quip.
give a proper response or don't waste my time (again).
'What method did you use to reach conclusion X?'. Is an astonishingly power tool, one that theists just crumble at, perhaps the single most devastating piece of street epistemology...
Love the intro Jimmy! ❤️
I absolutely do too👌
Ettuca - If a god can have always existed, existence and all possibilities can have always existed.
Look Amir, i appreciate you coming on, you sound like a nice guy. As another listener, it bugged me to keep hearing you assume so many positions rather than simply asking. The conversation would have been way more productive. No worries, just consider that next time.
Amir does, in fact, get "bitch slapped" but he seemed to miss the proper response which would be, "Thanks for showing me that I haven't even begun to think broadly and clearly about this topic. I'm going to go back and rewatch this 5 times and spend a month really exploring each of the ways you showed my thinking was poor." Kudos for trying, Amir. But now it's time to go do the work.
It's so sad seeing people who are so desperate to be blindly faithful sheep to the word of god/experts/or even Matt so that they don't have to think for themselves.
I liked amir answer where he personally doesnt find satisfying enough a non all powerfull being as the origin of the universe, while dismissing when other people say they dont find personally satisfying enough that god cannot be proven throught science.
Its weird that Coffee Lover and other Muslims do not notice that they keep claiming it is "accurate" but also at the same time acknowledge differences. of course I am a married bachelor so obviously it makes sense. lmao
One thing that always confuses me about Muslim claims is that the Koran challenges that no one can create a book like it(mentioned in the call), but its a nonsensical challenge to me. Length, poetic script, language, etc. There are multiple parameters proposed that are required to meet the challenge, but who judges if those are met? The people with a vested interest in denying the parameters have been met? The challenge isnt a challenge as there are no ways to meet it objectively. Its just as silly to me as the Christians saying the Bible is true because it says people will deny Jesus, and sure enough there are people that deny Jesus, so it MUST be true.
@@tremas3329 It also assumes the koran is amazingly beautiful and perfect, thus made by god, unless someone can fulfill the challenge. It's a shifting of the burden of proof. "My book is amazeballs, unless you think you can produce something just as amazeballs".
after an argument in a tiktok comment section, I'm reading the entire bible to prove the point that it wont turn me into a christian. Lets see
It might turn You into Jewry.
That’s silly
Christians should read it properly it will turn them into atheists
Meh, if christians can believe in the bible without ever reading it, i dont see how can someone claim one needs to read the bible to turn into christianity.
Reading the bible is how I became atheist.👍
Amir never understood the question about god providing evidence for god.
He kept answering from the perspective of "humans can't provide evidence for god."
Amir,
Come on man, if god is powerful enough to create a universe, how is he so lacking in power to give us evidence that he exists?
Sighs is not a troll! People from the Caribbean are like that. Please take note about that Ettuca caller. Particularly elder.
Fred sounded like he got his accent from watching Terrence & Phillip
Matt is awesome. Ended the show like the Godfather😂
I've been to the amazingly beautiful Hawaiian Islands, actually back in the 70s, when the waters were still pristine, and many sites hadn't been compromised by excessive tourism.
My suitcase had a sticker, - I'm sure that they still sell them - that said, "Here Today, Gone to Maui".
Black Sands Beach doesn't exist anymore, which blows my mind. But that's due to lava flow, not from human activity.
But it is truly heartbreaking to hear what is happening in Hawaii.
I visited so many incredible locations, Diamond Head, Seven Pools and so much more.
But what I remember the most is that the Hawaiians who I encountered were some of THE MOST wonderful, gregarious, sincere and beautiful people (inner beauty) who I have ever met.
I've been to many places in the world, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Sweden, Slovakia and many places within those countries. And, of course, I've met all kinds of people from all of these various places in the world.
In all of my travels, from popular tourist destinations to tiny countryside villages, I have NEVER come across any community or culture that even comes CLOSE to how friendly and warm the native Hawaiian people are.
And that includes my many trips to Canada and my encounters with the stereotypically nice people of Canada.
So it is truly devastating to hear what has happened to Hawaii, and how poorly the people of Hawaii have been treated during those natural disasters. It's shameful, some of the stories that I have heard, and particularly shameful that some of the nicest people on the planet have received anything other than support and respect.
Just another example of why, when traveling abroad, I often lied about being an American.
We have a jar of gumballs, containing either an even or an odd number of gumballs. The Theist claim is like saying that the jar contains a magical number that is beyond odd & even.
And the jar is invisible and pink.
Stating that there's potentially a conscious intention behind nature that's beyond our understanding is not really all that far-fetched. When you add all the extra assertions to it, like it has to have dictated people to write a specific book of those intentions, naturally it becomes a harder claim to support.
@@theboombody Not far fetched because something indicates that it is so - Or understandable in the light of our tendancy towards paradolia, anthropomorphism and because of our religious cultural bias?
The whole time I was thinking Ozzie Newsome. “Hot charismatic man” indeed.
How many episodes and no new arguments? Just shows that theists don't care about good arguments or evidence for thier positions. Maybe we just haven't heard it yet?

Definitely the theists, not even the most influential apologists can come up with anything new. Not until actual scientists make some discovery the apologists can misconstrue to "prove god"

1:21:32 Amir. The Aum Shinriko cult that did the sarin gas attack in Tokyo in 1995 had quite a few professional chemists, doctors, and other people with higher education as members. All considered to be intelligent and and rational in their fields of expertise. And yet they were active members of this doomsday cult that killed and injured a lot of innocent people in the subways during the morning rush hour. I was there at the time and remember how scared everyone was.
I think this shows the power of the human mind to compartmentalize contradictory ideas, even in people that come from the intellectual elite.

Games games games! I'm so happy that you are talking about Baldursgate 3! I will have to wait until next month when the game comes out on PS5. It's so hard people on pc would be so fin with the game by then.
This was a great one. Country music has a lot of that catering to populist idealism for the same reason that politicians use it, to attract the money from the listeners that it will inevitably bring. How some people blame the unfortunate for having to pay taxes is unnerving. It's a pretty common thing in the south to grow up hearing about being overtaxed and underpaid but if the wages had increased along with the tax rate over time it would not seem so unbalanced. It is also salt in the wound when billion dollar corporations get to dodge taxes and banks collapsing the economy and get bailed out by the same politicians that misuse those tax dollars and use their power to gain financial profits through a plethora of avenues. Also not voting does not make someone a "selfish asshole", the voting system is rigged and there is clear evidence to support this. I am a soldier too and depending on your job while in the military you can get a better view of the political landscape and abuse of power than you ever would have through civilian means of information gathering. So many people are disillusioned with this corrupt system that is controlled by the people with the most money and connections. Saying that people are "assholes" for not voting is no different that blaming poor people for taking advantage of the benefits they can. Doesn't take much research to figure that out. When they get rid of the electoral college and lobbying I will care about voting.
"I didn't know subscribing was free," I call BS.
Well considering he said directly after that, "I subscribed on youtube to others", kind of affirmed it.
It's strange that there are so many theists lined up to share their misunderstandings, and delusions. When will it end?
The hosts gave Amir a great lesson. Whether he will ever get it, is very doubtful.
Great show❤
I love taking calls like these and breaking them into their abstracts in my head to see where exactly they go wrong.
In this case, he says "I'm skeptical anyone could create a text this eloquent" etc etc, paraphrasing of course. So his conclusion is then assumed to be "therefore it had to have divine intervention" or something along those lines.
So the abstract is of his thinking is:
Something seems unlikely, therefore something more UNLIKELY is the cause.
Whereas ACTUAL skeptics would take the abstract(along the lines of occams razor) "if this thing seems likely, let's look at the more LIKELY things and if we can't confirm them, we hold it as 'we don't know' and wait for confirmation either way.
You find this simple abstract error in thinking everywhere you look with theists. The teleological argument, flood arguments, intelligent design, presup arguments...the list goes on. In their minds, it seems as if they've just sort of brute forced the fact that an unlikely thing can explain things. Or, they've been indoctrinated to think the unlikely thing is the most likely based on nothing but assertion. The point is, none of this is evidence based and it's just one more way theists lead the evidence to the conclusion instead of the other way around. It's really fascinating in these circumstances to see just how exactly backwards your thinking has to be to hold on to a god belief.

Amir. This nerd is arguing like it's a DND campaign.
Ettuca thought Jimmy asked “What was the color of coal”, not the color of cold.
Always fun listening in while playing a warlock/paladin oathbreaker on BG3 :p
Been listening to AXP over 15 years and the theists bring up the same arguments every year that are logically shredded by Matt and the other former hosts.
The fake callers voice reminded me of liquid Chris, a troll that would impersonate Chris Chan.
I really would love to hear Matt’s experience with being a CS pro
Crazy but earnest thought: Could it be that "Amir" is actually Douglas Murray? His voice sounds so much like Douglas'. Also the choice of words would go very well with Douglas....
Amir: that's a good question but let me answer this other one
I know theists have some way to write off fresh water and salt water mixing and then somehow separating again but what is it? Or do they think salt water wasn’t a thing before the flood?
All the ACA shows start with scripture now
And another thing, if God Christian or Muslim or whatever a creator god was out there. He would be evident in every branch of science there is. They'll be his fingerprints in every single branch of science. There is if he were the god of creation.
Justice Clarence Thomas ? who the frock is that? Oh yeah I REMEMBER: of Long Dong Silver fame! and Anita Hill...Nobody ever imagined he would turn to out to be THIS corrupt!
I have a limerick I wrote decades ago:
Show me something faith can do,
that I don’t have to belive, for it to be true,
I'll so you some facts you'll find hard to believe, that turn out to be true, outside of belief. For heres just something between me and you... facts don't rely on belief to be true.
True!
(Not a limerick though...)
Can anyone tell me if the podcast is still going to be made? Usually I have time during my work to listen to the show, but I don't have free time to watch it on RUclips.
Tony the last caller sounded like he was drunk
Totinos pizza is a form of substitutionary atonement 😂
Ettuca sounds like Fred doing a different accent; not joking
' ...Its Peanut butter jelly time , peanut butter jelly time ' .
Amir thinks William Lane Craig is credible. That summarises his whole call, which was woeful from start to finish.
Amit wasnt listening, do he missed the question. And after he got Jimmy to repeat it...fidnt understand it, so he answered it backwards.
Thats a lot of static between him and assimilating...anything.
The new intro is fk amazing 😊😊😊
Is it weird that I really appreciated Jimmy calling out swing voters by calling them stupid?
Nope
Why are swing voters stupid? 🤔
Is it just because American politics are just so obviously one-sided?
I’m in Australia and i pride myself on swinging my vote to whoever is making the most sense at the time of the elections 🤷♂️
We have so many parties to choose from so I always voted something different every 4 years. Guess usa is stuck when you can't really choose.
He’s politically naive to say the least,”over-emotional”,certainly has no idea on the dangers of socialism,he’s just historically uninformed on politics and the impacts of his kind of advocacy brings..🤷♂️
@SklllMasTeR in the USA have 2 parties. Both are corrupt but one pretends climate change isn't real and thinks trans people shouldn't exist and seem to have their sights set on gay people next.
Amir really should be close to banned for that waste of time. I feel for his partner or friends. Not stupid or slow witted just used to talking in circles and not being called for it.
Fred, subscribing to the channel is free, about as old as YT itself, and has only changed in having a few sub-options on what you are notified for, it is not a membership. "Joining" a channel, is a form of subscription to membership, and that isn't free, but does come with some perks, like custom emote Icons, access to reserved content, or earlier viewing than the general public... I guess whatever the content creator makes it to be.
And no wonder you are confused about the difference! Daaaaaaaaaang, your way of thinking (If you can even call it that) is really messed up big time!
Reality update for the so-called "undecided voter" - you vote for a person in primary, you vote for a platform in the general election. If the R was an angel, and the D was a bigger ass than trump, I'm still voting D.
The Scandinavians have more welfare, for less out of pocket cost for working people. Risk-pools work.
Those old cuneiform tablets still exist and nobody is saying the Mesopotamian gods are running around.
Christians are extremely selective with their evidence.
