Sometimes I see your layout and I want to throw mine in the dumpster! But I realize it’s a process that takes time to acquire these skills and I know you’ve been at this awhile. I first feel in love with your layout way back in 2000 ish timeframe when I saw it in N Scale Railroad magazine. I can’t express how much I appreciate you giving your “how to” videos. Makes me get off the couch and back to the layout. Thank you 🙏

The mention of you seeing the layout back in the early 2000's got me reminiscing... The layout in those early articles is long gone. Most of the layout that replaced it has been torn out or heavily modified. Change is constant and the hobby is most definitely a journey... especially as our skills improve and persoinal standards evolve. -grant

You did an excellent job hiding the pole. The area between 6 and 7 looks great. The Crowsnest area is evolving nicely. The trees hiding the hole in the backdrop are perfectly placed. They definitely hide the hole well and the look of the train going into and coming out of the trees is really neat. I like the shadow box theme that you've got going on a lot. Great video. Stay well. -Wil 👍

Hearing how many trees you’ve done makes me absolutely cringe when it comes to my Wet Coast layout, and how many trees I’m going to need to replicate Vancouver Island…I’m gonna need thousands, if not into the tens of thousands of trees!
Looking forward to the Ops sessions too!

    • @SouthernAlbertaRail

      @@SouthernAlbertaRail installing a beam might do it… but…
You still need to leave at least part of the post!!!!!
We couldn’t have that scene without the ‘scenic’ part of it!!!!!

Your scenery videos are top notch...totally a fan. What do you use for your dormant grass? Once applied do you do anything to it to achieve the tone?

    • @SouthernAlbertaRail

Thanks. I'm a big fan of Silfor brand static grass, I use Autumn and don't do much to it afterwards. It's mostly about the prep beforehand.

I was in '05 because I couldn't find evidence of 48 foot wells being used regularly after that date. They did turn up but very seldom. Going to '10 allows more latitude with NSC 53' wells and a few other pieces. In the big picture I don't want to get my panties in a knot over a year or two....
