That's a brilliant setup. I have just installed a 2.5x2.5 awning and I now regret not seeing this review first. Now I'll need to buy 2 sidewalls ect. The best thing about Aussie life is camping in the bush I reckon with the right vehicle. Thanks, mate.
Hey no worries mate, I did it the expensive way too.. bought a rear 1.4x2m awning and a side 2.5x2.5m awning over the last 12 months... And then in the end bought the 270degree awning as it's much easier to setup when your camping by your self.
Anyways, it's a learning curve I guess.. cheers mate👍🙂
Excellent review, thanks heaps for sharing, bloody awesome set up.
I gotta go shopping now :)
Cheers mate, glad I can help others on here with a bit of info before they spend their hard earned👍🙂
Jimmy, like the others and you . . . I brought a side awning 2 years ago for a speedy camp setup by myself. I didn't really look at any of the 270 degree awnings back then, I's just overlooked them due to the higher price back then. But with BCF Members price making the XTM 270 degree Awning $399 atm, I might have to go and have a 2nd look . . . $400 makes it a bit hard to overlook atm.
Thanks for the review Jimmy.
No worries mate, just be careful with strong winds popping up out of nowhere.. my mate has one and was packing it up at a camp when a gust of wind came and caught it, bent it back.. says he's going to repair it and reinforce it at the centre joins.. anyways.. pegging it down with the legs is a must and when packing it up, do it quick😉.. otherwise it's a great awning mate👍🙂.. enjoy
Nice set up 👍
Cheers Cob🙂👍
Great review thank you!
No worries mate, glad I helped
Great stuff.... I have thought about an awning but as yet still haven't been away with my 80 series so I am waiting until I do to work out what I want and where.. I still don't have a roof rack as I cannot get the vehicle under the rollerdoor if it has a roof rack on it. It is still a work in progress... Great setup and gives me a few ideas..Thanks.
Thanks Tim, yeah once things settle down in my life again, I just want to replace the awning supports with square tubing.. something stronger than what comes with the awning at purchase.. I'll also need to upgrade the bracket that holds the supports in place, but it will mean the awning could be free-standing and more capable against the wind.
Great setup 👍
Cheers mate
Cheers for the review 👍
How does it go for water pooling on the canvas ?
I'm thinking of getting one myself.
Not bad, but due over night soaks into the material.. so you will get a drip unless you drain it off periodical
Cheers mate, seems the best option unless the budget is $1500 for a bush camper……..mine not.
So far so good mate.. just gotta look after it😉👍
Thanks for the review. How’s it held up? Still no issues? I noticed it’s on club special for 399. Have you seen it any cheaper?
Cheers mate... I've never seen it cheaper.. but so far I have only been able to set it up one further time, as I unfortunately haven't been camping... But set up perfectly, no issues and I went the whole hog, guy ropes and put up two of the three Annex wall sections.. they passed with flying colours.
I'm still very impressed with the whole setup.. yes you can see where there are potential weak points in the design.. but I believe, look after it, take care when setting it up and it should last you.👍🙂
every now and then there is a spend 300 save 80 deal at BCF - what I'm holding out for...
@@thejimmywoodser thanks for the response
@@vvti85 mate if you can get it cheaper than $400... Snap it up.. obviously it's no $1000.. or $2000 awning, but it does the job perfectly and I'm stoked with it.👍
@@mikewasowski1411 cheers mate🙂
Excellent review! How is the awning holding up now that you've had it a while? Very keen to get one. Thank you for the review 🙂
It's held up well, no buckling, or any kind of breaking.. yes it is light and wind can be an issue if setting up in such conditions, but once you have atleast one anchor point down, I've not had any trouble with this awning👍🙂
@@thejimmywoodser Awesome, thank you 😊 time to go shopping!
Do you always use the guide ropes ? Is it sturdy enough with the legs down ? If wind is still
Generally I always use 2 guy ropes... Just for insurance, if you know what I mean... But it is sturdy with the legs down and without guy ropes... But yeah I live in a windy part of the world, so I opt for guy ropes everytime.
i just bought the xtm awning 270 and love it, is there any reason why you didnt get the xtm shower tent as well, it looks similar to the kickass one
Hmm at the time I don't think XTM did a shower annex.. I think it Waa just Kickarse and one of the expensive brands.. shortly after I got mine, even Kings was doing one.
Glad you've had a good experience with your 270 awning.. mines still going strong, but now need to transport my whole set up across to my new Ute.. and I have no idea how I'm going to do that to be honest
@@thejimmywoodser is the kickass one see through when you use a light in it?
@@929cosmodude not sure mate, never uses a light inside it, always used it at dusk for a shower
Thanks for sharing.
Very informative review.
I'm thinking that I might get an XTM Awning - it certainly has the stronger 280gsm poly canvas (pretty important).
Liked and Subbed. Cheers
Return subbed👍thanks mate
Yeah the XTM 270 degree awning is pretty good, it's not let me down yet.. it's the perfect combo of cost vs quality.. as long as you look after it ay😉👍
How are the brackets attached to the roof rack exactly? I have an ARB ladder rack and most poles on it are round :/
I've bolted the awning to the roof rack through the grill of the rack. I've got two brackets bolted in place at the front and one at the back as the rooftop tent gets in the way. I can take a photo of the mounting for you if you want.
@@thejimmywoodser thank you very much! I but the bullet and purchased the awning and managed to track down an old ARB awning bracket that attaches to the ladder rack bars. Suits perfectly 👍
@@off-roadwithacamera8866 good stuff mate👍🙂
do you know what the weight of the awning is?
Don't quote me but it could be about 21kgs🤷♀️
great review! how does the bag hold up with rain when packed away? any water creeping inside of the bag? be great if you posted a video/review of your setup with the awning walls installed!
Hey mate, cheers👍... So far no rain has made it into the bag and we've had a fair bit of rain out here in the past two weeks.
I'm hoping to get away soon.. gees this weekend would be great... Set everything up, enjoy it... And I'll make sure to do a follow-up vid with the walls up when I do👍
@@thejimmywoodser Does the part of the awning the butts up to the car have any velcro so you can put up an awning wall for a fully enclosed area?
@@vvti85 sofar I have only put the two rear Annex walls up. Not the first one, although that should butt up against the left passenger door. I doubt the fully setup Annex walls would give you a 100% enclosed room, as there is no wall on the driver's side where it over hangs the vehicle by a metre or so.
What are the Maximum length of the pole legs?
Ooh gees you got me there.. because they are the twist lock ones and I can just leave them at the set correct height while packed up.. I haven't actually checked...I am 6ft tall and they do extend beyond my height...
@@thejimmywoodser thanks. We ended up getting it
@@jessicaharrison2343 hope you have plenty of good camping trips with it hey👍🙂
@@thejimmywoodser we actually just took it back. Snapped off when we opened it and snapped even more when we closed it. We were shocked.
@@jessicaharrison2343 woah.. sounds like a real dud..
Before I bought mine because I had read a few negative reviews online.. I got the bloke to open the box up in store and I took it out and opened it up as best I could to make sure I didn't get a dud.. now I might have just been very lucky.. but yeah..🤷♀️.. sorry to hear you had a bad experience with it.. let me know how you got on in the end
