A journalist who started a pizzeria & a retired managing director who opened a vegetarian fine-dining cafe. Cafe Diem and Open Kitchen are two of the most loved cafes in Coonoor. So this time in Coonoor, I decided to spend a day with Radhika Shastry and Priyak Mitra to hear their stories of starting their dream cafes from scratch.

Hi Abhishek, first of all I really like your cinematography and content, thanks for that! How I started following your videos by accidently seeing your Landour’s videos, since I’m from Dehradun, I loved it. Started following up all your videos.
Well, when you premiered this video, we were there in Ketty, 12 KMs from Connor. We searched this hidden gem, reached there but we had following challenges and disappointments:
1) This café needs a prior reservation, no exception whatsoever! I reached there searching all the way from Ketty, with 2 small kids, but we were denied entry. Anyways, I requested if I make reservation for next day & we did.
2) This café is not kids friendly. 4-5 places it is mentioned to ask your kids to be seated all the time. I don’t understand how kids can sit all the time in a seat while it will take time to prepare food.
3) You cannot click photos outside of the cafeteria, and I really admire how Ms. Shastry has done her beautiful property truly amazing. But again, we cannot take pics ☹
I personally believe these details could’ve been highlighted, but then these are my views and expectations. We all like the pasta, pizza, red Thai curry were very tasty but a platter was not good.
This video hits the heart and a secret desire to shift to the mountains and open a small sustainable business where people recommend it when speaking about a place and location...Thanks a lot for letting the light being lit.

Explored Coonoor here first time. Amazing. Nobody can present any place better than you.
Oh yes, I'm waiting too. I have been talking to my besties about my dream of having a small cafe in a hill station or in a small tiny but an eloquent suburb outside of a busy city.
The view is breathtaking and picturesque. It's beautiful!!!
Coonoor is a lovely place in Nilgiri..The hosts are really remarkable..They have passion for what they are involved into.They're are enjoying their super annuated life with satisfaction and containment..Too good..
I visited my friend just last week in Wellington - Coonoor.. and she took me for lunch date at Cafe Diem..
We truely enjoyed the food along with a great view... Its strange that today i happen to stumble on this video as i typed in Cafe Diem... So lovely that i can revisit it again n again for my memory upkeep.. Thanks for uploading it😊😊

I was born and raised here 😀small town then but sadly can't recognise it when I go there. Too many people moved in and now a big commercial , unorganised town.
There should be policy for de-population of such protected areas 🙏🏽.

This video touches a raw nerve for us City dwellers. At binary level zero being the places visited and one being the host who gets to live that life and yet be touched and live life of one of the most envious profession as a "travel show host".

Let's put it this way --- the moment you start to give equal or more importance to the persona, the individual..... rather than his or her creation, it creates a certain aura around the person and what it does is that anyone visiting the cafes would want to dine as well as to meet the people who created the place. It is in this context that one gets hugely disappointed to find that Mr Priyak Mitra has moved on to Kochi (so I hear) and Open Kitchen in Coonoor is not run by him any more. ( as in the first week of Aug'22) Those viewers who plan to visit the cafe hoping to meet the owner could be disappointed. However the food is fantastic and the guy running the cafe at present ( Rajesh) is nice and friendly to talk to. Cafe Diem on the other hand is impeccable in all respects.

Nilgiris is always the best. But to start our own cafe or business I believe one we need local support and two to have good amount of space to start cafe or a hotel. I love to start and stay at hills!!

It's a regular thing done by ppl of Coimbatore. Everyone take a drive to Ooty, jus to have cup of tea and come back on same day.
It's the same way, how delhi ppl go to Murthal on weekends .

I was at Ooty 5 days back and I wanted to go to coonoor but unfortunately due to improper planning I didn't go. I wanted to go badly but I'll visit these places next time

The content of this channel is beyond Oscar I swear. It's so so so inspiring .....every word said, every scene shot, every experience being displayed everything is marvelous.......the purest content on RUclips I badly wait for each upload.......Traveling is blissful and rightly showed on this channel. Instead of changing multiple costumes clicking pictures and just sharing the cost of food....this channel really does something very unique very very unique and awesome. I was happy to hear that the cafe is vegetarian, but what caught my attention is that the chef described at 6.29 minute of the video that for Pizza dough they use eggs... how it is vegetarian??...chef does not know that eggs is Non- Vegetarian, God only know what he cooks and serves to all vegetarian lovers !!!!!

No doubt Cafe diem is a wonderful place but this lady is very moody and not welcoming the guests.many times she has misbehaved with the guests .she is impolite unlike she appears in the video....it is quite expensive and they welcome only high profile guests especially from services.
