    Biggest mistake the so called pundits made: underestimate Simona Halep and give her no credit before the final

    • @saurabhchakrabarty7362
      @saurabhchakrabarty7362 5 лет назад +19

      How don't understand how people said Halep was the underdog. Lol.
      For me this was always a 3 set win for Simona. Most bcuz Serena played mediocre players leading upto this final (no offense) .
      I mean the highest seed she faced was Goerges, #17, (who btw, gets intimidated by Serena so easily).
      So from all those players to suddenly then play Simona was a big step up for Serena.
      But boy o boy, never in my wildest dreams did I expect a 6-2 6-2. I was STUNNED.
      And supremely happy as a huge Simona fan.

      The only things they had going for calling Halep the underdog were ...
      Her vs a 7 time Wimbledon champ
      A 1-9 h2h vs SW including a win earlier this year.
      SW 23-8(probably wrong on the loss total) Halep 1-3 in Major finals.
      Soley based on those numbers you at least see why some people called her a underdog.
      But when you consider who has consistently been at the top, who she's beaten compared to who SW beat and how tight the previous matches have been I never thought of her as a underdog.

      @@saurabhchakrabarty7362 i dont want to take anything away from Simona, but Serena to me looked passive and very restricted by her court movement. It's possible she was either carrying an injury or affected by nerves. Or maybe the pressure of Grand slam 24 brought on by the american media hype, loomed too large for her. I wish she could've just relax, given the centre court spectators who mustve paid a fortunate their monies worth and the tv viewers a greater tennis final but she's clearly putting a lot of pressure on herself. She simply did not play or was able to play to the same standards she had in her QF and SF 's and was badly beaten.

    • @saurabhchakrabarty7362

      @@tenniscollector ofcourse Serena is not in her previous shape. Will be tough to get back to that shape.
      Yes, Serena made some easy errors. But then again, Simona was running like crazy. She made Serena go for so much extra.
      Also one big factor which people don't take into consideration is the draw that Serena had. It was extremely easy (Obviously no fault of Serena). She was playing average players whole tournament and then suddenly a top class player like Simoma Halep. Sometimes you are just not prepared for what is to come.
      I feel Serena needs to beat the top players and play against the top players more often to get ready for these big matches.
      Serena has only played 2 top 10 players this whole year.
      Halep : won 1 and lost 1
      Pliskova : lost.
      Coming back to Simona, she only made 3 UEs in the whole match which is the fewest errors made in a slam final in the open era. And she hit 13 winners plus 52% of her shots directed up the line. Which means she was taking risk and still only 3 errors. CRAZY!!!
      And lastly, to the third part of your comment, yes I wish the match was longer and more competitive for the fans and the tournament, but sometimes, magical performances produced are remembered much more than close contests.
      This was a final which will be remembered for the outrageously outstanding and jaw dropping tennis produced at the biggest of stages by a player.
      For eg, we will not forget the 2007 AO final, the 2012 Olympics finals, the 2013 FO final, or the 2012 Wimbledon final which were all one sided matches but we remember them for the demolishing tennis produced by Serena.
      Also AO 2019 finals between Novak and Rafa for that matter of fact.
      I am pretty sure everyone watching the finals yesterday were dazzled every second of the 56 minutes of brilliance Simona Halep produced.

    • @TheNazShow
      @TheNazShow 5 лет назад +3

      Also, Steffi retired at like 30 because she wanted to have a family life. It's not like she couldn't win more slams. She was coming off the finals of Wimbledon when she retired. Plus IMO she played in a tougher era.

    Shriver's inability to be objective as a commentator is as bad as her inability to hit flat or topspin shots as a player. Halep batters Williams 2 and 2 and all Shriver can contribute is that Halep "saw, after the warm up, that it was not an in-form, settled-in Serena"?? Pam, there are time when the match is not all about Serena Williams.

Maria is a proven cheat but i dont see the same comments about her being a PROVEN cheat in her RUclips videos. I get it. She is a black female who is out spoken. But to just disrespect her legend is amazing. When Halep has 23 Grand Slam wins with god knows how many finals runner ups as S. Williams by the age of fucking 37 after having a child and still competing a finals level. Let me know. But we all know that is more than likely not going to happen due to Halep's style of playing. Osuka has a better chance at being comparable to S. Williams when its all set and done and you know it. 37 years old and you make fun of her losing to a fresh young 20 something year old with talent. Good lord.
