I bought both of the Kaldheim decks as my first commander decks. I haven't looked at prices or the deck list too closely yet, but I'm thinking Llanowar elves if it isn't there and Coat of Arms potentially.
Just getting into MTG looking up tips and videos to improve this Elven Empire deck. I like your reasoning for these changes over what other people have explained for theirs. To carry on with what you said about the versatility of multiple effects I took someones advice of switching Elderfang Venom for Bow of Nylea. Also a $4 card
Some spicy tech for anyone interested: Death's Presence (best in aristocrat type build like Joel's commander 3 ways Lathril video. Synergizes well with Jarad from that build list) Benefactors Draught. Dome everyone for 20 with Lathrils activated ability...for a 2 mana instant..that can be situational card draw... plus its a cantrip.. AND the art is on theme!! (Not very budget though) Probably my favorite though is Quest for Renewal. We'll easily get the quest counters to make it playable...and then just smack face on every turn!
Why nobody talks about all those one mana instants that untap and boost power? Also vines of vastwood protects our commander and can add 4 elves if we swing with her for just two green
I would say Harvest would be interesting just cause you could tap all your elf’s for mana then use this card to get like 5 or 6 basic Lands out that turn
Gruesome Fate is a great budget finisher at 25 cents! Hits the whole table hard if you set the deck up to churn out Elves! Heedless One at 75 cents is another big beater with trample that benefits the decks strategy. Seeker of Skybreak to untap other creatures like Elvish Archdruid for insane mana or Immaculate Magistrate to make Lathril huge, thus producing an instant army if she connects! Wrap in Vigor at 80 cents is a decent board wipe protector.
Apart from building our board, every deck needs removal. Drannith magistrate is a real card. I'm also surprised you didn't even mention priest of titania, the best mana producing elf ever. Golgari charm is a budget alternative to heroic intervention.
A more expensive ($25) include to put on the radar is Growing Rites of Itlimoc. With the amount of little guys running around it should be easy to flip and then abuse for massive amounts of mana.
Tyvar Kell is not super expensive at the moment and he can be very impactful but turning all your elves into dorks and untapping them, also Nyssa Revane is about 6 dollars and can win the game if she is left unchecked, also you have mobilize and vitalized both untapped all your creatures but vitalized is a instant. All of these are great cards for the deck
So anyone wanna help me with turning this deck into abzan elven tribal? Gives you slots for great cards in white and the connected guilds. What do yall think?
Hi, I'm just starting out with magic and this video was super helpful for identifying which cards could be replaced without losing too much! Is there a worry that replacing some cards might affect the balance of the deck? Especially when swapping out colours? In addition to Elvish Warmaster and Ezuri, Renegade Leader I bought: Wellwisher Yeva, Nature's Herald Oracle of Mul Daya Nath of the Gilt-Leaf Priest of Titania Elvish Branchbender Circle of the Dreams Druid Joraga Warcaller Rishkar, Peema Renegade Are there any here that you wouldn't consider a strong fit?
Okay, agree or disagree with the changes I have to point something out. Am I insane or something? I've looked up deck lists and searched the unaltered deck I just bought. I can't for the life of me find "Elderfang Disciple" anywhere. I almost wish I could find it so I can throw it out of that deck so fast it would make spells with split second look slow.
You aren't crazy. After I made the video I think they decided to not include that card for whatever reason. Or maybe they made a mistake when the posted the decklist. When I made the video off their official website decklist, it had Disciple on it.
Okay, I kind of figured, but didn’t want to assume. Now I’ll find some other bit of dead weight(or at least something less useful) to replace with the Champion.
Hard agree about Voice of Many, I didn't like that card when it was first printed it, and I wish they'd stop. However, hard disagree about Harvest Season. It's not hard for that to set you up for a massive play. At the very least, this deck can EASILY get to two creatures. If you wanted to include more cheap ramp, like a simple classic Rampant Growth, in order to make it more likely you can get Lathril down earlier to start making more tokens, that'd be one thing, but with a 4 mana commander, 4 mana ramp really isn't where we want to be. If more reliable ramp is what we want, there's also, of course, Llanowar Elves, Fyndhorn Elves, or even Elves of Deep Shadow. Sure, we'd prefer ramp to not be as vulnerable, but you won't get any quicker than ramping on turn 1. And then, while I get that the video premise means you can't mention everything, there are some major budget includes I think deserve a mention: Marwyn, the Nurturer; Elvish Dreadlord; Immaculate Magistrate; Harald Unites the Elves; and Copperhorn Scout all come to mind.
Lathril just seems to.... cluttered? To me for actually heading an elf ball deck. You need to make it big and give evasion and vigilence, you need to make a bunch of tokens and then you need untappers or just not bother even using the final ability cause youre elf ball and making all your tokens gianormous is just what elf ball wants to do so using the last ability would be worse than just outright attacking. Theres just too much going on that you have to balance unlike normal elf ball where its turn 1 play elf, turn 2 play elf, turn three maby i play 3 elves... Much rather just go with some combination of the new elf partner pairings to pick and choose your poison for that game and mix it up every now and then for different play experience and just chuck Lathril into the 98
So let's get this straight. You want to remove harvest season because you think the stipulation of the card is unreasonable. Do you know what lathril does Bro? Let me say this again. Do you know what lathril does Bro? Lathril literally taps 10 elves and she is tapped as well, so after activiting lathril and then casting harvest season you are getting 11 basic lands onto the battlefield tapped. For anyone who wants to upgrade their lathril deck I promise you harvest season is an absolute must have in the deck.
I've watched four upgrade videos now and ALL of them take out Harvest Season. Also: after playing the deck a couple of times this was a dead card for most of them. It just doesn't go off easily enough.
@@Zoekende ok so you telling me that after playing the deck a couple of times you are unable to cast a three mana card after activiting lathril. This argument seems some what dead, because it's funny how in almost all games I play with lathril I have used harvest season. Let me give you some advice, you should be running at least 3-4 tutor's in your lathril deck. Tutor for harvest season when you have enough elves to activate lathril, then activate lathril and then play harvest season.

Thank you!

Elder fang disciple is not even in this deck?
Skyshroud Poacher shot up to about $20. :(
@@WateryFool I think he meant Elderfang Venom
Many of these are much higher and price than you have posted. I understand prices fluctuate, but geez. Elvish champion alone is 13+$
I bought both of the Kaldheim decks as my first commander decks. I haven't looked at prices or the deck list too closely yet, but I'm thinking Llanowar elves if it isn't there and Coat of Arms potentially.
Elderfang Disciple is not in the Elven Empire Pecon?

A good, affordable deck is exactly what I needed in my life right now. Thanks for this. Great video and great upgrades
Great video Joel! Awesome upgrades that are extremely budget friendly. Actually forgot a couple of these cards existed.
Why nobody talks about all those one mana instants that untap and boost power? Also vines of vastwood protects our commander and can add 4 elves if we swing with her for just two green
People build decks pretty much all the same so when you put some thought into it the deck usually does well
Vitalize is really good in this deck! Vines of Vastwood is a really nice pick :).
I would say Harvest would be interesting just cause you could tap all your elf’s for mana then use this card to get like 5 or 6 basic Lands out that turn
I'm personally adding in an Immaculate Magistrate just because the idea of making Lathril ENORMOUS and making infinity tokens is real funny.
Staff of domination is now a solid budget add
Gruesome Fate is a great budget finisher at 25 cents! Hits the whole table hard if you set the deck up to churn out Elves! Insane additions! Thanks! :)
Easy two that need to be added, Joraga Warcaller, and Priest of Titania.
i repalced ambitions cost with Harmonize. 3 cards and i don't lose life..good swaps, prices jumped on a lot of your changes
Apart from building our board, every deck needs removal. Drannith magistrate is a real card. I'm also surprised you didn't even mention priest of titania, the best mana producing elf ever. Golgari charm is a budget alternative to heroic intervention.

I was thinking the same thing lol.
FYI, skyshroud Poacher is now $20 for a heavily played ...probably because of this precon existing.
Wow, shenanigans.
Idk but for a really BIG elf, you could put realm seekers. In a 4 players group it could be like...16/16 + can ramp a bit.
Am I the only one who is missing one of the cards he said was in the deck?
Yeah for some reason, the list that was posted online when I made this video was wrong about that single card! So strange 🤔😕
@@JakeandJoelareMagic ok I'm glad I'm not fully crazy

Seedborn Muse! Like $8.00
Not budget but also like Doubling Season $40(ish)
Undergrowth Stadium $7(ish)
I added torment of hailfire. Crap ton on Mana what to do with it oh I will cast this for 20
Very nice addition, love that card
Do you have any other alternatives to these cards cuz most are beyond the budget limit now
I play jund sacrifice in Historic. I hope my walmart has this. Could I add craterhoof behemoth as a finisher?
