Functional programming isn't part of the basics , is another paradigm of programming, what if the person is starting with a language that is strictly object oriented programming? Would you tell the person because he's not exposed to functional paradigm he isn't getting the correct?
You’re right, it’s either functional programming or OOP. Which ever one you choose it’s still considered part of the basics to understand how functional or OOP syntax works.I choose to use Functional Programming because that’s what I started off with, but which ever one is absolutely fine.
I disagree with you. I began in 2005. Completely self taught and still program to this day. If u are trying to get a job, niche down. But how dyu know which niche to focus without experience? You can't. I'd say, explore programming. Try the different areas until you find one that fits ur mind type. Programming isnt limited to the typical fields, there's more. Ai,embedded, game, operating systems, language design etc are fields. Pursue what ur interested in and dwell on them until you understand them well. It may take years or a decade even.
That why you need to research before even attempting to learn how to code. I get you point of exploring different areas of tech, but I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE DO THAT because that's where they get lost, they are exposed to so many thing and very different ways of doing things and they get stuck, it feels like they are not making progress. DO YOUR RESEARCH and know what you want to do, learn the fundamentals of coding then hone in on what ever you're interested in.
@@levi_okoye programmers fall into 2 broad spectrums. The problem solvers/researchers and the entrepreneurs. Either way they begin, they'll fall or rise to their level of passion. The one doing it mainly to make money, will want to spend as little time as possible to get to the dough. The problem solver will spend as much time as he must wrestling a problem to solve it. Problems intrigue him and he's drawn to them. He's a whale. He wants to know as much as can about his field. I don't think the inordinate amount of time these kinds spend on their passion should be classified as waste except their not making objective progress. It's these kinds that birth innovations in their fields while the career programmer may eventually "graduate" from "writing code" unto "higher things". Most youtube channels are for enterpreneurial/9-5 types. It's subjective but the research type is best left to himself to tinker and wander in logic land feasting his mind on beautiful concepts and wrestling intriguing problems. The satisfaction he gains from finally conquering one is equal to that a career programmer gains from getting a fat pay check. I recommend the self taught route to those with the curious inclination. Yeah,I know, eventually he has to think about making a living but these types will never be satisfied with money alone at the expense of their intellect. Read up on Paul erdos,he was a mathematician who mirrors what I'm saying.

I don't think you have mastered coding, actually no has truly mastered coding for any programming language for that matter unless you are the creator of that language. My first programming language was Pascal, basic then C so you know i am old. I have not truly mastered any programming language even with me building big applications and payment systems you still constantly learning each and every day. When I thought I mastered Java the arrogant phases of my life then I realized there is so much to know about the language yet alone trying to memorize syntax and the most used functions. So mastering is actually something very different when it comes to programming. You can become good and better at a language with constant practice. Unless you have created your own language like James Gosling, who even says it takes many many years to truly master any program language and be truly proficient at it. But nevertheless thanks for the video and taking time to share.
