AWESOME Part two of your visit to Brents Nursery Ana :-D and WOW absolutely BEAUTIFUL Superblooms, and so wonderful to hear Brent talking about How to make Cactus Hybrids, and so amazing and informative about storing the pollen in the refrigerator for future cross pollinations, and so incredible that Echinopsis/Trichocereus and Lobivia can be crossed together, thanks so much for sharing the awesomeness with us Ana, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and CAFFEINE and PLANT POWER to Las Vegas for a terrific Thursday today XXXX

I wonder if the hybrids, being a cross of two different species that probably have slightly different internal structures and tissues, are stronger or weaker than the parent plants. Like maybe they grow slower, or are more prone to diseases or fungus

I would assume there are pros and cons to creating hybrids. The good, as well as the bad genetics could become dominant in the hybrids.

Some awesome plants there, a very interesting and informative video. I didn't realise Trichocereus could be crossed so widely with other cacti.

Recently I bought several Echinopsis, studied the genus and came back to this video and there is some statements i don't really get.
He wants to cross Trichocereus with Lobivia to get giant Lobivia... But that already exist, a lot of less known Lobivia and Echinopsis grow already pretty large. It would be faster to work from them.
He want to cross his spineless Ferocactus with Echinopsis because there is no spineless Echinopsis? That's not true, for the most known species, we have Lobivia/Echinopsis subdenudata and Trichocereus pachanoi who are already spineless!
He seems to know well his cacti but those things bother me a lot from a knowledgeable guy as him.

Have bought about A dozen hybrids from Brent over the past ~12 months or so now....though one pup was extremely small, it seems to be doing well...and I have been very pleased with everything else. Great selection !

"in the botanical world, they are all Echinopsis", and this not true. The group is kind of messed up, but according to recent genetical studies, the old classification is closer to reality, with globular Echinopsis being unrelated to collulbar Trichocereus. Same for Lobivia and Chamaecereus. Of course it's more complicated with a few exceptions and twists. We need to find a new name for "Trichocereus" since they are unrelated to true Trichocereus like pachanoi.

Have you tried crossing anything with e.mirabillis? It is a small plant but has one very desirable characteristic, it flowers non stop as long as it is kept warm and fertilized, and does so very early, in 2nd year usually. I does not cross easily with others though, I've managed to make only 1 successful cross with it.
