I grew up with Ultimate Peter Parker. I hate how ever since Miles Morales became Spider-Man, everyone has forgotten about Ultimate Peter Parker. I have nothing against Miles, in fact I think he is a really good Spider-Man, but Peter will always be the one true Spidey in my book.

Personally, my favorite Spider-Man storyline is Superior Spider-Man. Seeing Ock trying to better himself through the only way he knows how is so refreshing. And it's a turning point for his character from there on. I used to be quite a bully back in middle school, and seeing what is essentially a bully trying to do good but keep relapsing to his old ways really touched me. Add to that his character arc after the storyline and how he finally settles on becoming Spider-Man once again in San Fransisco basically cemented Otto as a unique kind of hero within the Marvel universe. It's like if the Penguin turned over a new leaf in Gotham, but it's permanent and genuine.

    • @chrisdaily2077
      @chrisdaily2077 3 года назад

What I also love is it shows why Peter is the superior Spider-Man as not only does he care but knows his villians better than Doctor Octopus. Also I just the moment Norman realises that it no longer is Otto and tries to bail.

My favorite may be The Death of Jean DeWolff. It's so unique and the plot just seems brilliant. To me, it's the same to Spider-Man comics as "The Dark Knight" is to Superhero movies. It also is one of the few (and in my opinion the best) cases in Spider-man's history where a dark story really has meaning and a message, rather than existing purely to press boundaries or redefine characters.

  • @wdcain1

_What If...?_ #76 (What If Peter Parker had to Invent Spider-Man) is my favorite Spider-Man comic. It does a spectacular job showing how things would turn out if bully Flash got super powers and Peter has to man up and save the day with his intellect. It really shows just what a genius Peter is and how most writers under use that trait of his for his humor.

Several of your favorite Spider-Man stories are among my favorites too. Astonishing Spider-Man/Wolverine was the first Spider-Man story post "One More Day" that I didn't regret putting down my hard-earned schlekkels for. The Paul Jenkins/Humberto Ramos Green Goblin story is one of my favorites as well. I used to have the cover of one of those issues as the wallpaper on my computer at work for a while. And the original Vorlun story is another Spidey highlight for me, as is "Severance Package." Also among my favorite Spider-Man stories are:
    1. Siege Sinister (the first of the Denny O'Neil/Frank Miller Spider-Man annuals)
    2. The Vulture two-parter during the first Hobgoblin story that included Vulture's origin
    3. The first Harry Osborn Green Goblin story from Amazing Spider-Man 136 and 137
    4. Amazing Spider-Man 250, where Spider-Man, lacking his spider-sense, digs out his old spider-tracer to track down Hobgoblin
    5. The story where Ezekiel attacks Spider-Man
    6. The Paul Jenkins/Humberto Ramos Doctor Octopus story
    7. "There Are None So Blind" by Bill Mantlo and Frnak Miller
    8. The Morbius/Man-Wolf team-up from Giant-Size Super-Stars 1
    9. The two-issue Vulture story where the Vulture rejuvenates himself by making Spider-Man old
    10. The Lizard two-parter by Paul Jenkins and Damion Scott

DeMatteis & Sal Buscema, Ultimate Spider-Man Venom and Carnage arcs, Spectacular Spider-Man 'Amazing Fantasy' by Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinnones, Mark Millar and Terry Dodson on MK Spider-Man felt like 'Hush' on acid, Spider-Man Blue, JMS and JRJR on ASM is solid gold, and ASM 53-56 is so much fun!

Some of my favorites include Marvel Knights: Spider-Man (or whatever that story with the Sinister 12 was called), The Hobgoblin Saga, The REAL Clone Saga (a six issue mini-series that really wasn't bad), The "Spidey" mini-series, The Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man series, Web of Romance (I think that's what it's called), and Renew Your Vows: Brawl in the Family

  • @KFXG

I love the original Clone Saga. Not because I think it was good as a whole, but because of what it could have been. It started off so great in my opinion, and could have been the biggest "holy shit" moment in the Spiderman comics, but they milked it beyond death and totally destroyed it. If they had finished it with the original intention, it would have been insane, and the thought of it makes my imagination run wild.

  • @Slimshadow457
    @Slimshadow457 7 лет назад +15

Surprised at how many of these I've actually read! Wow!
One story that always stuck with me, though, was a little one-shot, I don't even think it got a full issue. It's the story of a Z-list super villain who gets out of jail after Spider-Man puts him there. And he's trying to make it in the world but no matter what he does, he can't seem to find a job or get hired for anything, so he wants to use his gauntlets or whatever it was that he had invented to rob a bank. He does so very reluctantly, he really doesn't want to go back to it but he has no choice. And then in the end Pete shows up, asks him what the gauntlets do, and dissuades him from committing crimes again. He offers him a job at Horizon Labs and at the end the villain says 'Hey man, thanks a lot.. The guy who put me in jail all those years ago. He doesn't care about what happens to us later. He's not a good guy like you.' and then it shows Peter just smiling to himself and saying you're welcome.
I'll always remember how sweet and nice that story was.
(That said, you get a lot of bonus points for including the more recent Shed and the Rhino stories. Hands down some of the best thins to come out of both characters since they were created, and really chilling and dark, awesome stories for all characters involved :D )

    10) _Big Time_ - Peter uses his intellect and finds his life turning out how it should have in the '90s with things finally going his way.
    9) _Return of the Sinister Six_ - Pure fun watching Spidey having to deal with the very first super-villain team ever created.
    8) _Light the Night_ - An interesting analysis of Electro, Peter's, and a small time crook's insecurity as they all wish they could be big.
    7) _Dr. Octopus: Year One_ - Doc Ock's origin is showcased, evaluating his brilliance, anger, and messed up home life.
    6) _Peter Parker No More_ - All the awful tragedies he's faced has caused Peter to have a breakdown and reject his human identity.
    5) _Invasion of the Spider Slayers_ - Spidey has to fight multiple different types of robots across six issues with non-stop action.
    4) _Maximum Carnage_ - Spidey's worst case scenario: Violent super-powered maniacs just go on a murder spree and it's a nightmare.
    3) _The Death of Captain Jean DeWolff_ - A nut job with a shotgun pushes Spidey to his limits and shows even superheroes have limits.
    2) _No One Dies_ - Peter reflects on his no killing rule and all the people who've died during his years of wearing the costume.
    1) _Untold Tales of Spider-Man_ - This is a cheat but every issue of this series is a blast, perfectly matching the Lee/Ditko era in every way.

Hey Prof. Y'know, I'm kinda new to ASM, and I've watched some videos that provide some fantastic reads and points to begin, like Ultimate Spiderman. But though I've finished these, I'm.....not yet satisfied. The reason is that I want to read the classic stuff. To be exact, from 1970-95. Like for example, Venom. But I hate arcs that end in one issue (with exceptions). Plus, there are so many titles that I'm freakin' confused where to start. And, I've finished up with the modern stuff. I want stuff from the time I mentioned. So, I would like it if you put together a list of the best stories from this time. Thanks.

    Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage
    Original Hobgoblin Saga: ASM #238-239, ASM #244-245, Spectcular Spider-Man #85, ASM #249-251, ASM #259-261, ASM #275-276, ASM #284-288, Spectacular Spider-Man #130, ASM #289, The Hobgoblin Lives (1997) #1-3.
Best Issue: ASM #122: The Goblin's Last Stand.
Nothing has ever topped the pure emotion and intensity of this issue. The Night Gwen Stacy Died may have been the shock ending, but it doesn't have any impact till the next issue, as it happens in the last panels. The Goblin's Last Stand is where it truly sinks in that Gwen died for as Peter says: "Being stupid enough to love a guy named Peter Parker." This is the first time Peter truly loses it. It happens again in Pursuit, Grim Hunt, and Back in Black, but I think the only time his rage was ever matched as it was in ASM 122 was during Back in Black, and even then I dont think it ever reached that point. Peter's descent into rage is marked best by what happens when he sees Harry, who is sick in the hospital. He walks right past him seeing him as useless and unnecessary for his revenge. This is basically exactly like Norman. The climax comes when Peter makes his ultimate choice that will define him. Peter confronts Norman and almost beats him to death. He's ready to kill him for what he did but finally comes to his senses, realizing that if he kills Norman, he becomes just like him ... a murderer. The "death" of Norman Osborn is handled perfectly. Norman summons the glider from behind him to kill Peter, but Peter ducks and the glider hits Norman instead. Norman died as a result of his own actions, and the perfection of this comic is shown through the narration box on Norman's dying panels. "So do the proud men die: Crucified, not on a cross of gold, but on a stake of humble tin." I get chills every time I read that. Peter sees that the Goblin's death didn't make him feel better, just more empty. The cherry on top is the final end. Peter is insane after Gwen's death and MJ, who is feeling terrible as well tries to help him. Peter yells at her to get out and that she wouldn't care if her own mother died. MJ takes it bluntly, bu shuts the door and stays to comfort Peter, realizing that with all thats happened, he needs a friend.

I agree with you on the Civil War tie ins. Of course in the main event had him finding out about the SHRA on TV, while the tie-ins has him helping write it....damn Civil War sucked.

I hate the Avengers (TM) MCU theme song in the background honestly. The biggest turn off from reading Marvel comics these days is the inescapable shadow of the MCU's success. I'm sick of it. I just want to enjoy Marvel superheroes without Disney's editorial decisions to link everything to the movies, etc.
