Len was abandoned by his 'mother' because he was thought to be a 'demon's child' or just not human (he doesn't breathe and he has a pair of horns on his head). Years later he is still living but alone. He met Rin who is probably in the same situation as him and became friends. What I think is that Rin and Len's existence depends on if people remembered them though I don't know what they really are. Rin was forgotten and disappears, Len was remembered and lives. But left behind again :'(
Yeah, len died. He mentioned indirectly that his mom committed suicide because of the fact that she had him. And since she committed suicide, he vanished.
True, in a sense, immortality means to live on forever. Humans wish to immortalize themselves but they forgot one thing. Without death, humans can never truly live. Only by living on in the fond memory of others can one truly attain immortality. Therefore, even if you die, so long as you die meaningfully in which others remember you, you can never truly die. Those who achieve this, are those who are immortal
Here's what I think happened. A human woman fell in love with a youkai, an oni, but he was driven out of her village by humans who hated and feared youkai. She was forced to marry a human. At the time, she didn't know she was pregnant with the oni's child. When the child was born, she was relieved because he looked human, but his oni horns grew when he turned a year old, and her husband forced her to leave him to die. Because he is half human half youkai his existence is sustained by human memories. Now, what I like to think happened after the song is that she wanted to protect her son, so she told her human children about him, and they told their children about him, until his story became a kind of legend. One day, he, who had stopped aging at 25, met a young man who showed him real kindness. His name is Takashi Natsume.

Yep. Their songs are usually tragedy, sad and all but thats one of the reasons why I love them so much
At the child's head was
ME: * A Bow *
A horn
ME: * That can work *
song made me cry remmbering of my father that never stayed by my side
tugs at my heart-strings. every. time.
*pats your head trying to comfort*
