Yeah, there were a couple of other hints of cars stuttering a bit, late on in the race. And also it looked like cars in the distance were jumping around a bit on that last lap. So my gut feeling is it might have been a wider server issue, or an issue on my side.
@@chrisrogerssimracing its not clear to me how the dedicated servers work or if they even are dedicated as ams2 has a strange hosting system that can bug out... personally i find both lmu and ac1 more reliable.. and lmu has a contact model that makes door to door racing far safer, am hoping ACE will have the same kind of contact model so we can slam doors with out punting each other
Great stuff as always Chris. Good driving there at the end considering the circumstances. Driving around cars that are dancing around is always nerve wracking!
Those final moments were not suitable for the faint of heart. Too bad for the ping issues, it's always frustrating racing in those conditions. Yeah, I did wonder whether that might have been the case, but it’s so difficult to prove, with the ping being as bad as it was. But if he thought I’d punted him out at the end of the previous lap, it’s very possible the red mist came down!
Great commentary, as usual. You always make it sound exciting. I'm starting my AMS2 LFM career with the LFMX (gt4 & Ligier lmp3), and the LFMSA series. Im not driving the LMDH though, not quite confident in those yet

Great finish, Chris. I'm in North America, so I'm more likely to experience ping issues when racing on the LFM servers. That said, I rarely have any issues. Yesterday I was racing the MX5 on the Nordschleife and had some real ping issues from other drivers. Yipes!! Happily though, I got a podium, 3rd place finish.
Thank you Dave. Ping issues are rare for me usually too. If it does happen, it’s usually on an early morning race when you’re up against lots of ANZ drivers. Congrats on the podium at Nords, that’s some achievement!
That was a great wee race Chris. 👍 I like yourself also tend to take a cautious approach at the start of races and I'd estimate that for every position I might lose as a result I gain about 3 back from avoiding all the carnage. 😂Pity about that ping issue near the end though, I've experienced that myself as well but thankfully pretty rarely. It's just one of those things we need to accept can happen from time to time. Also, I just bought all the AMS2 content in the January sales there, I wanted to LFM for a while but I never jived with the driving feel in ACC. So AMS2 coming to LFM is a huge deal for me. Hopefully I can get up to speed on there in the next few weeks and maybe catch you out on track at some point mate. 😀
Nice one! I’ve owned the base game for ages, but only recently started doing some offline racing in it, and enjoying it. So I was pleased to get the excuse to try it online with LFM. I almost bought some of the DLCs in the winter sake as well, but at the moment I’m only on base content still. However, if I get into the LFM online racing, I’ll certainly be getting some extra packs. Maybe see you on track!

Great video Chris. Just come across your channel and like your laid back attitude. Been playing AMS2 for a few years now but just joined the races in LFM, so still in rookie. My only critisism with it so far is i keep getting placed in the top split.......and I'm not that good!! 😆
Nice one, welcome to the channel! Yeah, that’s a problem I’ve had too, because drivers of all abilities start with the same rating. It does start to even itself out after a month or so, and you’ll find yourself being put in more realistic splits 👍

Happy new year! Yes, I haven’t done much online racing in the past month, so I’ve been giving AMS2 offline a bit of time and I’ve really enjoyed it. I like the custom championships, and have been working my way through a British Championship JCW Mini series on all the UK tracks. Been great fun!
Good video. I have done a handful LFM G40 races this week from Australia. I have seen very minor ping issues once or twice - not at all as bad as in your race.
Nice one. I suspect it was just an unlucky one-off. Were your grids with 30+ drivers too? Or smaller? I’m wondering if that large number may have contributed a little too.
I did this combo last night but was in split 1, which is probably not where I belong! The top 3 were doing 1.22s!!! Came 16th and had a great race, I do like the Ginettas a lot. No ping issues for me, or performance issues yet. I did 4 races in the beta period and they all went smoothly as well.
1.22s, wowsers! I think I only crept into the 1.23s by sheer luck. I’ve still only done this one race, but hopefully I’ll get another chance at the weekend. With a bit of luck, the ping issues will have been a one-off 🤞

Great race!! Love these G40 races. It's always close with identical cars. So chuffed AMS2 is now on LFM as it's amazing in VR. ACC was getting a bit "samey" with GT3's all the time. So much variety now with AMS2, car & track combo's so far is outstanding. Well done LFM. Is the latency not down to whoever the host is for the race?
Yeah, that’s my problem with ACC too. There are only so many times you can do the same combos before it starts to become a bit repetitive. So it’s great to have another option on LFM, that’s a bit easier to enter than all the modded AC content.
Great race, AMS2 is a fun sim offline and now online. No other car was blinking on the track likely his issue not yours. I have to thank you again! I started iRacing 3 months after not having raced on line since 2005 (GTR). I stepped into the M2 Club car and used your technique of patience, watching for others mistakes and using the defensive line. I achieved two first place, one second place and three 3rd place finishes in eleven races!! Please gather your courage and go race the M2, it’s in the rookie class exclusively and there is a lot of carnage but a lot of good racing too. If possible please try it out and upload a video of you racing. Take Care 👍🏾
Wish I could join online races like these. This is a perfect example of why I am sadly reduced to racing AI. I would be banned from all races due to the terrible internet/electric problems. Another great vid, Chris!

Generally I've had a very good experience so far with AMS2 - the two times I've had problems were with 30+ drivers on the grid. One saw the session fail to advance from quali to the race until loads dropped out, and then on Monday I suddenly disconnected after having no problem at all. I think they could afford to have more servers with slightly fewer drivers (6 splits of 25 rather than 5 of 30 for example). Managed to win a top split race this afternoon with some very close action all the way through which was really enjoyable.
Yeah that’s a good idea. I seem to remember in the past, seeing AMS2 communities limiting their grid sizes to 24-25 drivers, to try and improve server reliability. That was a while ago, so I’m sure work has been done on them since then. I’ll be aiming to give it another try at the weekend, to see if the same happens.
Great fight back Chris!! As an ACC person, I'd much rather this Donnington layout, with the different chicane and no 2 hairpins. Also, I pray that AC Evo eventually has a multi-player that allows for consoles to race with PC. Esp now that my big hopes for SimGrid doing this with ACC are out the window. 😭
My pleasure, although I don’t really have much to share! I’ve not made any camera settings changes, and I’m just running with the default from installation. I do make some slight seat position adjustments in the cockpit, just to get an angle I like (generally with the top half of the steering wheel and dash visible) but that’s about it!
Thank you for sharing! And good job your P2! Congratulations! I had 5 AMS2 races with the Ginetta so far yesterday and today and experienced not one ping issue like shown in your video. I just saw some minor nuisance, nothing dramatic and always only shortly. Sadly LFM killed the fine M2 series in ACC, so I had to look for some other slow cars, that taste me. My main issue currently is braking the Ginetta. I use Crew Chief and he teaches me every race Donings corner names by complainig constantly about blocking my tires or my front right . Horrible. How do you brake these cars? I haven't got it until now.
Oh no, I didn’t realise the M2 series had finished. I always enjoyed that race, the few times I did it. I did quite enjoy this Ginetta, but I see a lot of the future weeks involve DLC tracks. So I need to decide whether to invest in some extra AMS2 DLC content! I will try this race again at the weekend… hopefully the ping problems will be a one-off 🤞
Great race as always! Too bad there was some network instability at the end. It's always better to have an honest race with someone than to have some outside force affect the results. Anyway, whether the ping issue was on your end, his end, or the server, that's nobody's fault. It's just a fact of life in sim racing.
Exactly, it’s frustrating, but every sim racer who’s ever had an online race will at some point have had a ping interruption. Thankfully they are few and far between! Another commenter earlier said to look at it as the sim equivalent of a mechanical issue, which is a great approach!
I notice that the cars further behind at 11:07 are also lagging, so i would suggest either it was your ping issue or a problem with the AMS server in general. I'm no expert though! Well raced though.
Yeah and around the same point, the times on the relative board were beginning to go a bit crazy as well. It certainly seemed to deteriorate as the race went on, which is why part of me wonders if the server was struggling under the strain. It’s so difficult to know, though. Still a decent race, pinging aside 😃
Oooh that’s interesting, so it might not have been either my connection or his connection then? It certainly did seem to only be an issue in the late stages of the race, which is why I thought it might possibly be the server struggling a bit. Thanks for letting me know 👍
To me, it does look like he was the one with the ping issue. If it was you, especially with something that severe, I'd expect every car to act the same way, at least on ACC. No idea if the symptoms are the same on AMS2. Nevertheless, good recovery drive in the end.
Yeah, that was my thought too. I did see a couple other slight stutters from other cars too, but only in the second half of the race, which is why I wondered if the server itself was beginning to struggle. But I can’t rule out that it was me causing it either, so I’ll probably just have to give it another try and see if it was (hopefully) a one-off 🤞

Doesn't matter who's ping is, neither you or him create the ping issue on purpose. I think that somehow the game should make the car with ping issue transparent (ghost) so there is no crashes and also we can see who has the issue, and then LFM arrange results if any car has gain positions cause his car was in ghost mode and take advantage of it
Yeah very true mate. Like I said at the end, it’s something that can happen anywhere at any time, but it’s still a shame… particularly if Jonas thought he was punted off. Hopefully he’ll see this video and see what things looked like from my side 🤞
TBH you see these issues in iRacing as well. I think it's part and parcel of people from all over the world racing each other. It's a minor miracle it works as well as it does.
@@mikecroshaw9233 Yep, I used to find it was quite common in iRacing, mainly because I often used to race in the mornings when there were a lot of ANZ or Asian drivers on the grid. That would often make for some frightening car bouncing or blinking!

Hi, is there not a ping counter available? If so it'd be a useful tool to have displayed on a corner of the screen. Based on my experience racing online it doesn't appear that you were the one suffering from bad ping. Your car seemed to be tracking nicely, it was the other cars that seemed be off. The fact that near the end the other driver couldn't stay on track is an indication that his ping was ruining his ability to drive. Nice of you for reaching out to him and unfortunate that he blamed you when it was him that was suffering from a poor connection. If you were to watch a replay did it look as though every car on track was suffering? If so then it'd be LMF. If not then it was due to a couple of the users. Maybe Russia cut underwater sea cables again?
Haha maybe. I’m sure there probably is a ping counter that could be switched on. Most sims have them. I might look for it and switch it on for my next race, if there is one. That might give me some answers. Thank you 😃
That was unsportsmanlike behavior from jonas. I think he tried to retaliate after the crash by attempting to hit you. Report that guy mate... he could get banned, it's such a reckless behavior, and he probably said something inappropriate in chat
Yeah I did wonder if it was an attempted revenge hit, particularly if it seemed like I’d driven into the back of him from his perspective at the end of the previous lap. With the crazy ping though, it’s difficult to say for sure. I didn’t hear back from him on DM so I’m hoping he might see this video, to at least know it was nothing intentional from my side.
I haven't had any ping issues I have seen ppl try crash other out already. I hope LFM takes this seriously and gives out vacations with evidence. To the ppl that don't know how to race... just learn, if you have to crash someone out, it doesn't show how good of a racer you are, it just shows how slow you are.
I got almost three days of abuse for a racing incident from a guy who got on the brakes twice on the apex and exit of Coppice. It's bloody rookies! He hadn't even seen the replay before he jumped in my DMs to call me a dirty driver, eventually apologised when I actually showed him the video. People really need to grow up and get over themselves lol it's a free service and we're racing Ginettas
I had a connection issue today morning in my lmu race and it ruined the start for a couple of people, myself included. Still, these things happen and at the end of the day its a game meant for fun. Shame when it happens but unfortunately its just a part of online racing/gaming.
Yeah, exactly. An earlier commenter put it a really good way, saying we should view it as the sim version of a mechanical failure. I liked that outlook!
H i Chris, not sure it was ping. Maybe check your fps as there have been known fps drops in LFM races on AMS2. I have been suffering from them. Turned shared memory off in settings and they went away. Good race though.
Ahhh thanks for the tip, I’ll give it a try. At the time, I didn’t even consider anything other than ping/connection, but you’re not the first person who’s mentioned FPS drops as a possible cause. Could well be something in that. I’ll get in and change that setting though, and hopefully give it another try at the weekend 🤞
Ethernet cable, and a pretty fast fibre network. Although it does occasionally have a blip, so there’s every chance it could have had a funny 5 minutes at the end of this race!

I'll be more than happy to keep using AMS2 offline, and leave the online to you 😂 AMS2 by far offers the worst online experience of every sim, and it's really not worth my time.
Haha. I had a fair amount of time away from online racing recently, and I started doing some AI custom championships in AMS2 instead, which I found pretty enjoyable. So AMS2 has established itself as my ‘offline sim’ of choice now, which means I’m not too worried about doing too much online racing in it. Plus, I absolutely HATE having the gamer tags instead of real names on the leaderboard… it’s a nightmare for commentary! 🤣
Well let’s hope I was unlucky and it was a one-off. Lots of other people said they’ve done multiple races without any issues. Will see what happens when I try it again 🤞

Please gather your courage and go race the M2, it’s in the rookie class exclusively and there is a lot of carnage but a lot of good racing too. Generally I've had a very good experience so far with AMS2 - the two times I've had problems were with 30+ drivers on the grid. One saw the session fail to advance from quali to the race until loads dropped out, and then on Monday I suddenly disconnected after having no problem at all. I think they could afford to have more servers with slightly fewer drivers (6 splits of 25 rather than 5 of 30 for example). Managed to win a top split race this afternoon with some very close action all the way through which was really enjoyable.
Yeah that’s a good idea. I seem to remember in the past, seeing AMS2 communities limiting their grid sizes to 24-25 drivers, to try and improve server reliability. That was a while ago, so I’m sure work has been done on them since then. I’ll be aiming to give it another try at the weekend, to see if the same happens.
Great fight back Chris!! As an ACC person, I'd much rather this Donnington layout, with the different chicane and no 2 hairpins. Also, I pray that AC Evo eventually has a multi-player that allows for consoles to race with PC. Esp now that my big hopes for SimGrid doing this with ACC are out the window. 😭
I’m with you, I prefer this Donington layout too, it flows far better. Fingers crossed for AC Evo, hopefully it won’t be too long before we find out 🤞

My pleasure, although I don’t really have much to share! I’ve not made any camera settings changes, and I’m just running with the default from installation. I do make some slight seat position adjustments in the cockpit, just to get an angle I like (generally with the top half of the steering wheel and dash visible) but that’s about it!
Thank you for sharing! And good job your P2! Congratulations! I had 5 AMS2 races with the Ginetta so far yesterday and today and experienced not one ping issue like shown in your video. I just saw some minor nuisance, nothing dramatic and always only shortly. Sadly LFM killed the fine M2 series in ACC, so I had to look for some other slow cars, that taste me. My main issue currently is braking the Ginetta. I use Crew Chief and he teaches me every race Donings corner names by complainig constantly about blocking my tires or my front right . Horrible. How do you brake these cars? I haven't got it until now.
Oh no, I didn’t realise the M2 series had finished. I always enjoyed that race, the few times I did it. I did quite enjoy this Ginetta, but I see a lot of the future weeks involve DLC tracks. So I need to decide whether to invest in some extra AMS2 DLC content! I will try this race again at the weekend… hopefully the ping problems will be a one-off 🤞
Great race as always! Too bad there was some network instability at the end. It's always better to have an honest race with someone than to have some outside force affect the results. Anyway, whether the ping issue was on your end, his end, or the server, that's nobody's fault. It's just a fact of life in sim racing.
Exactly, it’s frustrating, but every sim racer who’s ever had an online race will at some point have had a ping interruption. Thankfully they are few and far between! Another commenter earlier said to look at it as the sim equivalent of a mechanical issue, which is a great approach!
I notice that the cars further behind at 11:07 are also lagging, so i would suggest either it was your ping issue or a problem with the AMS server in general. I'm no expert though! Well raced though.
Yeah and around the same point, the times on the relative board were beginning to go a bit crazy as well. It certainly seemed to deteriorate as the race went on, which is why part of me wonders if the server was struggling under the strain. It’s so difficult to know, though. Still a decent race, pinging aside 😃
Question, I'm practicing for week 2 at Barcelona. Is this the G40 Cup that's 5-speed H-pattern? Or is it the GT5 (or even Supercup) that's sequential?

I had a fps drop from constant 100+ fps to 45 avg in the race. Reiza are aware and working on it if someone had the same problem.
Oooh that’s interesting, so it might not have been either my connection or his connection then? It certainly did seem to only be an issue in the late stages of the race, which is why I thought it might possibly be the server struggling a bit. Thanks for letting me know 👍
To me, it does look like he was the one with the ping issue. If it was you, especially with something that severe, I'd expect every car to act the same way, at least on ACC. No idea if the symptoms are the same on AMS2. Nevertheless, good recovery drive in the end.
Yeah, that was my thought too. I did see a couple other slight stutters from other cars too, but only in the second half of the race, which is why I wondered if the server itself was beginning to struggle. But I can’t rule out that it was me causing it either, so I’ll probably just have to give it another try and see if it was (hopefully) a one-off 🤞

Doesn't matter who's ping is, neither you or him create the ping issue on purpose. I think that somehow the game should make the car with ping issue transparent (ghost) so there is no crashes and also we can see who has the issue, and then LFM arrange results if any car has gain positions cause his car was in ghost mode and take advantage of it
Yeah very true mate. Like I said at the end, it’s something that can happen anywhere at any time, but it’s still a shame… particularly if Jonas thought he was punted off. Hopefully he’ll see this video and see what things looked like from my side 🤞
TBH you see these issues in iRacing as well. I think it's part and parcel of people from all over the world racing each other. It's a minor miracle it works as well as it does.
@@mikecroshaw9233 Yep, I used to find it was quite common in iRacing, mainly because I often used to race in the mornings when there were a lot of ANZ or Asian drivers on the grid. That would often make for some frightening car bouncing or blinking!

Based on my experience racing online it doesn't appear that you were the one suffering from bad ping. Your car seemed to be tracking nicely, it was the other cars that seemed be off. The fact that near the end the other driver couldn't stay on track is an indication that his ping was ruining his ability to drive. Nice of you for reaching out to him and unfortunate that he blamed you when it was him that was suffering from a poor connection. If you were to watch a replay did it look as though every car on track was suffering? If so then it'd be LMF. If not then it was due to a couple of the users. Maybe Russia cut underwater sea cables again?
Haha maybe. I’m sure there probably is a ping counter that could be switched on. Most sims have them. I might look for it and switch it on for my next race, if there is one. That might give me some answers. Thank you 😃

Yeah I did wonder if it was an attempted revenge hit, particularly if it seemed like I’d driven into the back of him from his perspective at the end of the previous lap. With the crazy ping though, it’s difficult to say for sure. I didn’t hear back from him on DM so I’m hoping he might see this video, to at least know it was nothing intentional from my side.

To the ppl that don't know how to race... just learn, if you have to crash someone out, it doesn't show how good of a racer you are, it just shows how slow you are.
That’s a shame, but yeah the LFM reporting system is really good. Punishments and bans will definitely be handed out for any deliberate wrecking.
I got almost three days of abuse for a racing incident from a guy who got on the brakes twice on the apex and exit of Coppice. It's bloody rookies! He hadn't even seen the replay before he jumped in my DMs to call me a dirty driver, eventually apologised when I actually showed him the video. People really need to grow up and get over themselves lol it's a free service and we're racing Ginettas

I had a connection issue today morning in my lmu race and it ruined the start for a couple of people, myself included. Still, these things happen and at the end of the day its a game meant for fun. Shame when it happens but unfortunately its just a part of online racing/gaming.
Yeah, exactly. An earlier commenter put it a really good way, saying we should view it as the sim version of a mechanical failure. I liked that outlook!
H i Chris, not sure it was ping. Maybe check your fps as there have been known fps drops in LFM races on AMS2. I have been suffering from them. Turned shared memory off in settings and they went away. Good race though.
Ahhh thanks for the tip, I’ll give it a try. At the time, I didn’t even consider anything other than ping/connection, but you’re not the first person who’s mentioned FPS drops as a possible cause. Could well be something in that. I’ll get in and change that setting though, and hopefully give it another try at the weekend 🤞

Ethernet cable, and a pretty fast fibre network. Although it does occasionally have a blip, so there’s every chance it could have had a funny 5 minutes at the end of this race!

Haha yeah I bet! That’s usually the only time I encounter bad ping, when I do early morning iRacing races and race alongside a lot of ANZ drivers. So I can imagine how bad it must be for you guys on the EU servers.
I'll be more than happy to keep using AMS2 offline, and leave the online to you 😂 AMS2 by far offers the worst online experience of every sim, and it's really not worth my time.
Haha. I had a fair amount of time away from online racing recently, and I started doing some AI custom championships in AMS2 instead, which I found pretty enjoyable. So AMS2 has established itself as my ‘offline sim’ of choice now, which means I’m not too worried about doing too much online racing in it. Plus, I absolutely HATE having the gamer tags instead of real names on the leaderboard… it’s a nightmare for commentary! 🤣
