CATIO - Improvements after 1 year

- It's been almost a year since I created CATIO.
I found a few things that need to be improved, so I made this video.
Zip ties
For the first year, it's almost no problems.
only a few ties were broken.
However, as many of commented, after 2 or 3 years its not sure it will be ok.
so i decided to change zip ties to wire.
i will change it in the next video.
Raising the bottom
The shape of my balcony is distorted before i made catio, and puddles of water are formed on rainy days.
So, during the rainy season, the wood was always soaked in water and mushrooms grew on it.
Therefore, I put plastic sticks underneath to raise the bottom.
Wood is not keep getting soaked anymore.
I used something in the form of a plastic rod that I found at shop.
i don't know what is this.
It looks like something you would put a cable through to protect it.
Paint
I used BRIWAX as the paint for the wood part, but I recently found out that it is not good for outside!
I repaint twice in the past year, but I thought it would be like this.
This time, I decided to use a natural nature-based paint that is water-resistant and safe.
It is also highly durable and makes the most of the wood grain.
I choose this.

Q & A
Q1: Why don't you cover the whole balcony with netting?
A:because we japanese used to dry blancket(futon) on the balcony.
Q2: put bird feeder on the balcony!cat will be fun!
A: one of the reason I made the CATIO is to keep the birds away.
I hire cats as balcony guards.
We had a lot of sparrows and they were pooing on our laundry, which was a problem.
Q3: Why didn't you put anything on the floor when you painted wood white?
A: I didn't bother because I was planning to replace the floor.
I replaced the floor in the next video after the last CATIO video.

Suggestions: mount a bird feeder (outside the structure, of course) so they can bird watch, put a few non-toxic plants in the catio to create a more jungle-like effect, and maybe a branch mounted vertically so they can climb and scratch the bark. Beautiful work, thanks for the inspiration.

yes in last video kohaku was 3 month old 2020 DEC.
and this video is already 7 month 2021 APR.
i took a lot of video after kohaku is coming to my house 2020 OCT-DEC.
but i didnt have time to edit.
last video i finish editing about 2020 OCT-DEC.
I finally caught up with the present!
I would have enclosed the whole balcony with netting and then added a rail to hang whatever. I am sure it would have been cheaper, spacious and low maintenance. Anyway the cats love it, so that's all that matters.

Thanks for sharing the names of your cats. The new (young) one is really cute. Did something happen to one of the bob tails? I thought I only saw 2 of the 3 cats in the first video. I hope I'm wrong. I've really enjoyed watching your videos. I especially love how detailed you are in showing how you've constructed it. In other people's videos you're sometimes left guessing how they did something. I'm hoping I'll be able to build something like this for my cats someday.

Gotta say loved the update video. Was actually surprised I got a reply on the original video. I'm going to try to do something like this for my cats on my apartment balcony. I just need to think of a say to get it to work in the sliding glass door since I would still need to be able to close the door.

改良では行き止まりをなくしました。
新しく入ってきた猫ちゃんを先住猫の１匹が目の敵にしていて、行き止まりに追い詰めたりしていたので。
もし新入り猫が来る可能性があるようでしたら、行き止まりのないデザインをお勧めします。
スチールメッシュはポリエチレンコーティングされているものをおすすめします。
カインズで今まであったのですが、先月あたりから粉体塗装タイプに変更されてしまったので、そちらは雨に強いかどうかわかりません。.
カインズのネットでは数量限定という形でまだ販売されているようです。
