Actually it’s getting easier to get into specialities than ever before. New grads are getting into the ICU and NICU now. That was unheard of in previous years prior to COVID. Since COVID things are a bit easier.
I think it may just depend on where you’re located, but I personally know a lot of new grad nurses that are having a hard time securing positions in specialties and have to start with medsurg. Not saying that it’s impossible but having experience on your résumé can definitely help!
Girl !!!!!!! I love ur vids and always excited when I see u post I’m on my first term of WGU. Currently taking Nutrition and pharmacology :) super excited to be in same classes u are ! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Girl ! Give me some tips for pharm I’ve seen u killed med dose in 5 days I have been in class for 3 weeks and wanted to see what u did to pass the class ! :)
Congrats on your externship! That is awesome & I’m pleased to learn that you don’t have to be licensed to be one. I always appreciate your updates & information. I’m like a term behind you so I feel Breyer prepared watching you. Thank you thank you thank you. Side note… are you an earth sign!? Because your drive is amazing. School, work, Mom, externship, & content creating. I’m legit inspired.
Congrats on everything and I really appreciate your videos. Hoping you can give me some guidance. I have heard a lot of different info on clinicals 1. Is there a way to see where the lab and clinical locations are in your area 2. Ho many days a week is clinicals? I would love to see a video even if it’s short just showing what and example schedule for the semester is like. 3. Someone in a facebook group said they have to go find places to do clinicals WGU did not assign them to a location. Have you heard of this or have any experience with a situation like this? Thanks girl keep up the great work
@@downtherabbithole1225 Hey! And thank you for watching! 💕 1. Unfortunately, no everyone’s location will be different so the locations I go to will not be the same as the locations you go to the lab locations the only thing that is the same. And it depends on the state you’re located in. 2. So far for Basic nursing 4 days 8hrs/day adult health 1 (6 12 hr shifts) Intermediate lab 4 days 8hrs/day Adult health 2 (6 12 hr shifts) Women and children (5 12hr shifts) Pysch (5 12hr shifts) 3) that is the LVN to BSN program I believe not the BSN pre licensure they will assign everything to you
@@FutureRNBrittanythank you for the speedy reply that helps a ton. I am in my first year and fully committed but I do travel full time. Which helps because I can go anywhere lol but was trying to get an ideal of how long I will be in one place for each clinical. I am the type of person that no matter how far in the future if I don’t understand something it will drive me crazy until I do and this helps so much ❤ thank you and good luck in everything you do.
Great Video 😊 Yes we will like to see content on the nurse Extern. I have a question is there a med Surg Course ? I seen Adult health but not Med-Serg .
Girl, fixing to have my second clinical rotation and it’s at a different hospital that required a lot more orientation than the first site along with a second fit test because they wouldn’t accept one outside their facility. I guess it’s different for everyone but I wish it were the same hospital as the first rotation. Preceptors definitely make a huge difference in our learning experience, and some of my group has experienced some not so good clinical experiences.
I hate to hear that! It would make more sense to always keep someone at the same hospital, but I guess they go based off availability because that was too much paperwork to have to keep completing for each clinical rotation! And yeah, I have experienced preceptors that think that you’re just there to get the bare minimum like apple juice and that was on the days where my normal preceptor was out and it for sure made the experience suck!
@@larrinarogers624 so the three week window is to basically give you a heads up of the timeframe you will be scheduled around and then they will assign your shifts on specific date and times, but you will get that closer to the three week window. They normally send you an email about 2 to 3 weeks out to tell you your clinical dates.
Here in Las Vegas nurses are having hard time getting into new grad residencies with so many people moving to vegas. I definitely think it depends on where you work.
Im at WGU for nursing, a mom with a youtube channel so you feel like a distance big sister to me letting me know whats to come. I dont have instagram so Im not sure if you answered it or not , but for clinicals is it 12 hrs and how many shifts. I work in L&D ,but I used to work on a CVTU unit and would get floated frequently to PCCU and CVPV units. When I would get floated there I did not have great experiences, so Im trying to see how long I have to be there for clinicals.
Thank you for watching!! 💕 I’ve only been to IMU and just regular medsurg so far and I am 2 rotations in! And it is 12 hour shifts normally range from 5-6 shifts until the end you will have more back to back hours to complete near graduation
I am Considering applying to WGU, do they assign you a preceptor or do you have to find your own. I am coming from a community college ADN program I completed half of the program there but I am wanting to transfer to WGU. Does the hospital support you there or does it feel like you are looked down upon - Thanks
@@Elosie6 you are assigned preceptors! And the hospital itself is super supportive but honestly, I can’t say the type of personality. You may deal with when it comes to the nurses but for me I have not had an experience where I was looked down upon. And if I felt like my experience was tarnished because of the nurse I was assigned to I would always reach out to my clinical instructor to change them.
Your videos are so easy to watch. You have such a good attitude.. ❤️ I’m a single mom as well, just started the application process.

If we live in a different state, how does the clinical rotation going to work???
U might have to travel to lab or to clinicals. Ex for labs ppl that have to travel you will be given instructions and discount rate for hotel.
I love your videos ❤please keep them coming. I’m in the beginning stages did you have to take chemistry if so how was it?

Very Informative! Are the clinicals everyday for 3 weeks? or are there certain days out of the three weeks that clinicals must be completed?
