Nice review. I love my MG ZS EV Exclusive. Cost 21k brand new last September. Done 8k miles. Range not an issue. Charge an home overnight on a three pin lead with 3kw charger. Well made, NO rattles, and no wind noise. Saving £100 per month over my old 3008, £300 per year on servicing (7 year warranty!), and saving hundreds over my old MGF! Gets wife's wheelchair and my bike in the boot with seats up. Brilliant!

I had one for just over a year, and I agree with your assessment, spot on.
good car if you don't need long distance driving. Had some teething problems.
I think the next generation of cars from MG will be much better, different level.
I have moved on to ID4. VERY NICE!

Good review of a "not bad" car. It's a car that'll do most things for most people most of the time, and not break the bank.

That all the more makes these MGs a hugely potential opponent for the legacy automakers internationally.

Probably the most balanced review of the car I've seen Mark, people forget it can be picked up for barley £20k new and compare it to stuff twice it's list price. We have a Leaf 40 and this and I have to say owning both the MG is the better car by a country mile, not just in isolation but back to back driving. Yes, the handling is floaty, but that's not the point of the car. The MG is very capable on longer runs and travels further, faster than the Leaf. For every 200 miles it's about 45 minutes quicker than my Leaf. It's our primary family car and carries out longer runs very easily. Build quality is excellent and reliability has been excellent too.
I think the next gen MG's will cause the legacy makes some issues.

Another really good and sensible review - thanks Mark. You might want to test the ICE version of the MG ZS as it is the next generation vehicle. It would be interesting to see how many of the issues you identified have been addressed. I believe it is rumoured that the MG ZS EV will be getting the same facelift later this year. Also, any chance of a review of the MG HS?

If you want lots of 'real world' info on a car, presented well, turn to Mark. Top job. This MG ZS really strikes me as being a 1st gen' Chinese EV car, which is fine as long as it's cheap. Newer models on the domestic Chinese market seem to be real Kia competition & Tesla beaters. And when they come here, badged as MG, it could be quite something else from the ZS...

Excite doesn't get roof bars and for a family wagon where you need to carry bikes the exclusive is the better option imo. Refresh is due early next year with more range so I'd wait if you're looking at getting one 👍

Top review. If you look on vanarama, this is less than a Dacia Duster, cheaper to run and quicker in town. Rather compelling as a mum's city runaround. Never thought I'd hear myself say that.

  • @michalklucz6907
    @michalklucz6907 3 года назад +1

this is a fantastic car. Huge, roomy, bright (with a panoramic roof). But then you have to live with some minor issues. No memory seats while having electric control (everyone with to drivers - 187cm and 165cm tall will get my point). Or silver frames of vents that you see in your mirrors, or halogens.. in 2021. Or no recuperation while going downhill.
BUT like Mark said if you are after a city car but you want a crossover body, you absolutely should consider that (but I would recommend going for higher trim as the panoramic roof is brilliant and buys you a lot of time-off from the rear bench isofixed passengers)

Definitely worth a go yes it’s budget but it honestly does 99%of what others will. We purchased a black Exclusive , it’s super cheap to run at least 1/4 maybe even 1/5 cheaper in real terms compared to our old Countryman S in terms of running cost previously getting 30 mpg from that . We purchased ours from Frasers of Falkirk they even offered a 48 month very reasonable service package allowing us car novices to just have to worry about tyres and brakes that’s about the lot couple that with an 80000 7 year warranty there’s not a lot to worry about..
Finally the Scottish government were doing 0% loans no brainer but worth comparing prices ..

The MGZSEV is 'horses for courses' ...it is a cost effective way to put your toe in the electric car market...there are faults ...yes, but it is still good value for money compared to a number of other EV's. Despite what the reviewer says ....the extra for upgrading to the 'exclusive' is worth paying.

A good review. Agree on the ride but like most reviews you've bought into something that early reviews all opted each other about ie the noise. Check out the reviews we're noise meters are used - proving the MG ZS EV as being as quite or quiter than Konas etc. Come on try to be independent and not mimic other reviews. If you want the data check out Bjorn Nyland

When I press the centre button it takes me to the Home Screen. If in Car Play it takes to back there as well. Problem is that it is often laggy like other parts of the infotainment so it can take two presses which is annoying but works fine on the whole.

Maybe not the "new TVR", but maybe the "new skoda" in the making?
Joking aside, this is a great value for money EV to temp ICE owners into making the leap of faith into electrical vehicle ownership.
Top marks to MG for bringing to market such a well spec'd car at such an affordable price. We need many more EV's available at this price point, not £40k plus models which seems to be the current norm.
A fair, balanced review by Mark.

Apparently MG are working on a longer range version of the ZS EV where the 44.5 kW.hr battery is replaced with a 73 kW.hr one (same size & weight reputedly). This could get launched in 2022. If this happens, I predict this will MASSIVELY increase the appeal of the car to plebs like me.

The biggest barrier to owning an MG EV, as far as I can see, is the obligation to have a RUclips channel talking about how dreadful the build quality is but it was cheap so that's ok (sort of). Just don't talk about the spot weld corrosion.
