  • It's a £135,000 Jaguar XK with no more power than the standard car, and it looks a little bit outrageous. Has Jaguar been smoking something?

    Thumbs up for the (co-)driver's eye view at the end of the video. Tells you so much more about a car's handling than anything else. Please feature it in every video from now on.

    I think Jaguar should just give us an XKR-R! Strip it out, make it lighter, give it a manual gearbox and it would be a proper weapon. I'm sure there's still a market for such a car.

    It's hard for Chris Harris to go any further up in my book but that drift round Druids is spectacular. As a previous racer round Oulton, Druids is so so slippery and not at all forgiving. One of the best Journo Drivers.

    Some LED displays are multiplexed which means they are flashing on and off in a way that is not discernible to the naked eye and produces no visible flicker. However when the LEDs are viewed on screen they aren't in sync with the frame rate and as a result appear to flicker.

    Oulton is the most dangerous track in the UK in my opinion, every time I've been there, wet or dry I've seen a crash, there is very little run off, and a lot of the corners are off camber. It's a great circuit though, and to do those sorts of drifts at Oulton in the wet is mighty impressive.

    The One thing I don't like about this car is probably its pricing.
    The jag will have a hard time competing with cars that cost roughly as much... But I guess that's not what it's about, after all

  • @CarambleTV
    @CarambleTV 11 лет назад

    I think the blinking lights are due to LED's flicker a lot when appering on video due to the frame rate. It becomes more of a repeated 'flash' than a blink when slo-mo is used.

    Fair point.
    I have always loved the style of the XKR series. The first 2-3 years of them or so were just jaw-dropping. I believe it and the DB9 were originally designed together around the same draft. I drove one briefly on the road and liked it as a touring car, felt a lot like the (rare-ish) BMW 850 series... but yes, I'm not seeing the thing as a trackstar at all, and don't know why they'd flog it as such.

  • @klacksteron

    For all of you who hate this car I understand the performance isnt good enough for the price. But the raw thrill of driving this car is simply phenomenal. I have never drive a camaro or gtr that has put a bigger smile on my face than this jag. That being said ask me if I ordered one. Nope went for the more sensible 4 door xfrs simply because I have a family. If I didnt however I would have an xkrs gt. The name is stupidly long but it sounds so awsome. Imagine a valet asking "who owns the xkrs gt"

    Well, Chris Harris seems to enjoy himself. And that's what it's all about: fun. But I would agree that a light car can offer just us much fun, if not more, than a heavier car like this. But I seriously doubt anyone will choose between this car and, for instance, a Caterham.

    Close. LEDs are driven by a PWM signal. The PWM frequency "beating" with the camera shutter frequency, that's what's causing the flicker.

    so good boys, so good. I came into it with my eye on the length, but it did not need anymore. Sure some full commentary dry laps would've been nice, but it was classic Harris wrestling an unruly beast and best of all it felt completely real. Not staged or embellished but natural and unique, just makes it so much more engaging and special. I watch most of the other reviews for a re-hash of what I long ago read online then I watch Harris (and Neil is it?) to get a real honest experience.

    Thats because one door panel on this Jaguar costs more than the entire interior in the ZR1. This is still in essence a ultra-luxurious grand tourer, very comfortable, refined, polished to last detail. ZR1 does one thing well, but sucks at everything else. Thats the difference between a great car, and not a great car. Its much harder and more expensive to make a car that does A LOT of things very well than just to make a car thats fast.

    Do love some of these 'Skunkworks' type cars that make it to production as too often these days we get teased with something *cough* C-X75 *cough* that we never get to see on sale. Yeah this thing is a bit flawed but if they showed it at a motorshow just as prototype and then never sold it to the public we would all moan about how great it could have been if they had sold it. Also, look at that aggressive styling - if you saw it gaining in your rear-view you would shit your pants. I like it.
