High efficiency boilers are just like new cars. All junk! Sign of the times. I just got rid of my 07 Silverado and bought a 93 Ram W250 with a Cummins and a five speed. I couldn’t be happier, especially since i’m the one that has to fix everything that breaks. My boiler is a 1950s EFM 520 highboy coal boiler. Made out of 5/16 inch boiler plate - probably has three or four more generations of warming people left in her..😎😁👍
The screwdriver to the ear trick. We did that in the old days in my gas station/ radiator shop. We had a long sxrew driver and checked water pumps that way, worked every time!
Good work, Steve. Tracking down noise sources can be tricky. My first home had a boiler with a B&G circulator pump. When the pump ran, an obnoxious vibration would travel along the piping to the baseboards; cast iron in those days - miss 'em. Anyway, replacing the coupler did the trick. Soon afterward the 25 year old pump had to be replaced. Motor still ran great.
I heard a knocking noise in the walls of my old 2 story house. Thought it was an animal stuck in the wall or something. Happened a lot on windy days. Turned out to be a loose concrete chimney cap that was rocking and making the noise. Got it fixed by a roofer and the noise was gone.
First time the high efficiency unit breaks down it's going to cost you that rebate! The first time. Friend has a Lochinvar condensing gas boiler and it needs a $900 + labor control board every 2 years!
I put a new boiler first time and my pipes were banging when it got to the top temperature come to find out I guess I put the circulator in upside down while the letters were not upside down but I guess you can change that no noise I love it
Maybe the clanking noise is the hubby giving the ole lady an instant rebate and the headboard it banging against the wall🤣🤣🤣. Ya I think ya got it expansion and contractions of the pipes and on n off of the circulator.
They call you over for a sound and then run around the house and wanna talk about 5 other issues non related. Takes patience to do deal with that. You have more than me most days. Clack clack clack.
I think you found it Steve. That's one flimsy pipe installation. I hope you put a couple hangers on that pipe otherwise that cardboard is going to fall off next week and they'll be calling again. 😅

It seems like you found the source to the noise Steve! Great video and observation, stay safe and keep the videos coming ☝️ 👍 💥 👌 🫵
I would have guessed water heater. Ours was replaced about six years ago but now when it runs it makes that clanking noise when it’s burning. 😅
My one zone makes a bang after it runs for a while, I never investigated it but I assume that it is the long run of copper pipe expanding.
Hi Steve well done vibration noise not mechanical noise great video

Need to fix the plumbing leaks
Steve my Slantfin baseboards make a few noises when the circulator first turns on and they heat up. My wife says I have dog ears. I just ignore it.
Steve, do you film these with your phone?
Hello Steve, boy , that couple was like a clapper on a bell.. WOW!
Bet you that was it. Nice find Steve!
Wonder if that pipe with the pin holes in it is electrolysis?
Didn't You have a Basboard until that had the pipes so tight they were making noise?
Steve what kind of oil fired stem boiler do you like?

Hello Steve!
They need to have those leaks fixed.
Sometimes those motorized vent dampers start making noise when old or crap in the smoke pipe...

Maybe it's expanding pipe noises
Typical. It never messes up when the repair guy is there. 😂
yeah, how about that?
Exactly 😂
I guess you told them if the noise went away you will come back and fix the leaks time and material because either way you will be back

Steve tell them to call the Ghostbusters next time lol
Clack clack clack…lol.
It’s highly likely it’s the pipe expanding in a heat pipe hole that’s too small and when it expands it rubs on the hole 😂
