I did know it was acting but still, and before the watershed as well. Bert was lovely to Gail. The producers or whoever could have at least given Ivy her wish rather than this, which just smacked of them carrying on their vendetta against Chris Quinten!
Gail was bang out of order denying Ivy the burial she wanted for Brian, what difference would it have made for her to let Ivy have her way? She said she was burying Brain as his wife, but she had told him and his mother the day he died that she no longer loved him, and that she wanted a divorce. She has some brass neck (no chin) to stick to her guns over something that really, REALLY should be Ivy's business.
Amen ! She's an absolute git. I really do not understand how her, so called, brain works. Why fight to plan the funeral of a man she literally said a matter of days before that she wanted nothing to do with and did not love ?! It was definitely Ivy's right there to plan it. She wasn't even asking for much, but Gail has to carry on playing the victim all the time, the stupid wally that she is
Just watched it and entirely agree. Then when she said to Audrey it was a year ago they got married and till death do us part, when she had just told Brian she didn’t love him and wanted a divorce, I was raging . I know it’s only a tv programme, but Gail is a nasty, spiteful woman, evil.
@londonlady227 I was waiting for Gail to say that to Ivy.... that would have got Ivy off her back, but she didn't use that one. Her and RB likely never had that conversation...
Ive only just found this show & been watching it back from 1985, as an aussie I just love the english humor, wit & 1 liners, absaloute gold! My parents were english & were very similar to the characters on the show, its been interesting to see how life was in 80s uk. I particularly like Vera, Bet, Audrey, Ivy & dear old Hilda, I didnt like terry duckworth, alan bradley characters. Gail is an awful selfish & vindictive character she didnt care where brian was buried, she didnt love him & she did drive him away, she is spiteful & what Ivy said about her was correct, thanks for the uploads, the acting is so brilliant I feel like Im there, very special indeed.
You're very welcome! Glad you're enjoying it downunder - btw I'd recommend starting at 1976 as that's when it really got good! The golden era was 76-84! 😉
Gail is absolutely sickeningly selfish, I don't know why people took her part against Ivy. Her selfishness is what made Ivy so bitter in the first place!
Ivy was a nightmare character, but so was Gail during these years. Ivy should have been allowed to bury Brian in the way she wanted to. It would have been no skin off Gail's nose.
@@spartybrearly7221 he was, and he was thick as two short planks, too. Gail probably didn't owe him anything after he died, but she could have handed the funeral over to his Mother, who really DID care for Brian
@@spartybrearly7221 GAIL WAS THE CHEATER . She slept with his cousin and tried to leave Brian AND HER CHILD but the cousin didn’t want her. So I don’t know what your on about
I don't agree with Gail one bit about the funeral. If Ivy and Bert want to pay for the funeral of Ivy's desire, let them have at it. Give Ivy some comfort, no skin off your nose.
Yeah i get what you’re saying, I just felt that some of the supposed comical storylines they had them go through were at times too cringeworthy for words and weren’t necessarily amusing.. certainly NOT to me anyway. Each to their own!
Ivy Tilsley was an understated and well defined character in Coronation Street. I don’t understand the animosity. She was a loyal wife and mother who stood up for her beliefs. It’s not like she was lining up for her Methadone every morning and stealing and whoring her way through life. She had backbone and was not afraid to stand up to anyone. Look at Tracey Barlow (Kate Ford era). She has gotten away with serious crimes. A truly vile and despicable creature with no morals. But then, that’s the world we live in now eh.
Absolutely it is Lisa (the world we live in now).. which is why folk like me prefer to be taken back to a simpler time, by watching old Coronation Street (I’m talking ‘76 onwards based on what’s currently on YT) 😉
@@EveHenleySpread Amen. Ivy had morals. With regard to her being a possessive and overbearing Mother? I don’t see what’s so abnormal about it. She wanted the best for her family. I think it was an excellent characterisation by Lynne Perrie. Until 2023, the earliest year I had watched was circa 1998/99. I have gone back to 1976 and watched them all. The nostalgia has been a fabulous experience and triggers memories of a time when we were happy with less. I thank you for the effort you have applied to uploading these time capsules. ❤️🙏
An uninflated bag would have been full of more life then that lump of wood. I think the only other awful excuse for acting from a long time character is "cough cough hmmm hmmm aye aye hehehe cough" Betty big belly.
I don’t know why Rita and Jenny believed Alan. He’s such a dick head most of the time and to Martin and Dawn. I think Rita was perhaps trying not to believe it after she found about Len’s infidelity after his death.
If I was Gail I would feel huge guilt about Brian’s death. She didn’t seem to which was annoying. And would burying Brian as a catholic really had hurt her? She was just being vindictive to Ivy.
Exactly right ! Gail was an absolute git, she's so stupid. Suddenly the man she did not love and did not want anything to do with, meant so much to her after he died hence why she wanted to do the funeral in her own way telling Ivy practically to bog off. Gail always acted as if she was the victim in every situation. I thought so too that Gail may become more down to earth but obviously not. She's a selfish idiot.
Chris Quentin wanted to move to America with Leeza Gibbons, so the writers got spiteful and killed him off, and in doing so, killed any chance of him returning. They chose to write the breakdown of their second marriage for dramatic tension. I reckon it worked!
How could the writers ever hope to rescue the good character of Gail from doing such a heartless and pointless thing as denying Bryan's mother a little solace. How uselessly cruel!
Gail should be happy now, she wanted poor Brian out of her life, Brian gave her everything she demanded, but like a spoilt Brat, as soon as she got it, she didn't want it anymore, what a detestable character.
Percy to Jack: "have you got deathwatch beetle?". Jack replies: "I dunno Percy, hang and let me unscrew me wooden leg and have a shufty for ya" 😂😂 love some of these lines
Gail is a right arse, I am sure she could have said it a nicer way to Ivy that they were not together anymore. What a horrible way to say her and St Brian were no longer an item.
I only just discovered this show a few months ago and between allen bradley and gail I'm that disgusted that can't watch no more 😩 I just loved this show too...no more Hilda and Eddie and Stan..the list goes on...without Bet, Alec, Jack, even Vera & her mouth this show wouldn't have a chance in hell and where the hell Gloria! R.i.P. Bryan ☹
Brian's stabbing even viewing now really hits the emotions the same as 1989. Horrible to say the least. I don't know if they ever caught the person that did this and presented this on any of the episodes after.
His killer gave a talk at Nick’s college in 1998, then he got Leanne to write to him in prison and things got a bit dangerous 😬 The episodes were screened around June I think so you’ll find them on this channel but excerpts telling the story have been uploaded separately on another channel too. Good storyline.
Why does a wife have more of a say on a man's funeral than his own mother? The mother gave him life, nurtured and protected him through childhood. The mother is his blood and DNA. A wife doesnt come remotely close to that. Why on earth does she, Gail, have more of a say than Ivy? I don't understand that. Brian came from Ivy. She has THE say on how his funeral goes, in my opinion.
Gail tut tut what a cow to do that when she dident want him anymore having the last word poor me syndrome she ended up with martin thats justice for ya 😂😂😂😂
Im proud of Brian putting Gail in her place, for his own sake and on behalf of Nicky. His love for his son driving him. Ivy raised a good son and loving father. Briliiant acting
Yeah that's him. 1983 Christmas Special called Happy Returns. Reg made Del think he was someone else's kid by adding a letter on the blood test letter. The last episode Lennard Pearce appeared in before his untimely death the following December. They had filmed some of Series 4 but had to redo Grandad's scenes with Uncle Albert instead. Strained Relations was quickly done to accommodate Lennard Pearce and Grandad's death and Uncle Albert's debut
@@dominewimbury2039 Good knowledge. Thanks. But I think the Christmas episode may have been called ' Thicker them Water'. The episode where their dad comes into it. I think ' Happy returns' episode may have been the episode where Delboy thinks he has a daughter with Juney.
No she buts not as if she loved Brian anymore and to say "he's not Ivy's son or Brian's" when he's exactly that. She was the reason he was out of the house that night anyway this was the least she could do @@londonlady227
I'm getting to where I started watching in 92 or 93 & I've gone back to 1982 to meet the characters I have always heard about like Brian & his death. Not much storyline in the past couple years & a character i never cared for, However he was good in the scenes when he took Nicky. Rita storyline is compelling TV that I can't stop watching. For a dull character this has changed my opinion of him. What a slimeball & the acting between him & Rita is great.
The way the writers handled Brian & Gail's deteriorating marriage felt so forced in creating the climax for Brian's exit - very strange watching it back
I agree Gail was wrong and she no endearing qualities anymore. Ivy looks as though she's on the road to vengeance and quite right. Looking forward to the battles ahead.
How wooden is Gail’s mate Pauline! 🤦♂️ I hope little Warren Jackson knew it was only pretend, must have been quite traumatic for him. Older Warren said about Brian’s death on the kids from Corrie special.
Great month for Corrie, unfortunately dominated by the death of awful Brian Tilsley, and the start of the battle royal between Gail and Ivy. Alan Bradley's not-so-subtle seduction of Dawn Prescott is fascinating to watch, as she's already on to him and getting suspicious, but he can't see it, and is unaware that she's going to be the architect of his downfall. Go Dawn!
I think the battle between Gail and Ivy started way before Brian Tilsley was killed off sure remember when Ivy tried to stop Audrey from going round to Gail and Brian’s house for dinner I’m not saying that’s how it started I don’t know how it started but I think it started way before that as well but I do know it definitely started way before Brian Tilsley was even killed off
@@EveHenleySpread yep, neither ☺️ I just wish today’s Street had a bit more good humour and not have every character that comes in to be a psychopath or somebody with an Alterio motive

Any tears Gail cry is tears of joy,she hated Brian to death!😢😢😢
Alan’s giving me the creeps
She wasn't even asking for much, but Gail has to carry on playing the victim all the time, the stupid wally that she is
Well he was next of kin and maybe R Brian didn't want a catholic burial.
Karma got gail when martin left her for younger & richard hillman tried to kill her, pity she survived
allen bradley and gail tilsley...you're perfect for eachother!
Coronation street looked
Like Eastern Europe in that
Period Very drab 🏚️ But
Good gritty rep of north English working class life🎉🎉🎉
Gail is absolutely sickeningly selfish, I don't know why people took her part against Ivy. Her selfishness is what made Ivy so bitter in the first place!
Ivy was a nightmare character, but so was Gail during these years. Ivy should have been allowed to bury Brian in the way she wanted to. It would have been no skin off Gail's nose.
Not sure I’d agree. Brian was a philandering hypocrite. Gail owed him nothing.
If I was Ivy I couldn't hold myself back in not strangling her. She knew she didn't want him and was spiteful to the end.hope she gets kharma later
Its gails fault brian died she asked him for a divorce again & he stormed out & went to that club
@@nicolemclean9028 and he asked her to come out with him instead. If she’d said yes he wouldn’t have died
Don was right. Ivy never got over it. Understandable though.
She was also completely correct from the start, even if it did drive her crazy in the future
The great days of T.V!!!!!
I'd say "our" brian was relieved to finally get away from Gail to be honest.
04:57 Martin would do a better job of vacuuming if he turned it on. The un- inflated cloth bag is a dead giveaway.
An uninflated bag would have been full of more life then that lump of wood. I think the only other awful excuse for acting from a long time character is "cough cough hmmm hmmm aye aye hehehe cough" Betty big belly.
I remember watching this on G Plus back in November 2001
Beth and Aleck had marvelous chemistry. Derek and Mavis were so entertaining too! So many great characters on Coronation Street.
Brian, I'm not the one breaking up the happy family. When were those two happy¿
The song in the club where Brian was was called good life ..
"good Life" by inner city.
I don’t know why Rita and Jenny believed Alan. He’s such a dick head most of the time and to Martin and Dawn. I think Rita was perhaps trying not to believe it after she found about Len’s infidelity after his death.
I think Derek and mavis were marvellous. Perhaps a touch under rated
Seriously? I think they’re one of the primary reasons why EastEnders was kicking the Street’s ass around this time.
@@4evernate28 Eastenders was poor in the ratings that year and Corrie was on top.
If I was Gail I would feel huge guilt about Brian’s death. She didn’t seem to which was annoying. And would burying Brian as a catholic really had hurt her? She was just being vindictive to Ivy.
Gail was quite right, Brian was a cheat and a liar.
@@spartybrearly7221 Gail was a cheat and a liar as well so they were well matched!
Gail being cruel selfish and should not have the rights to say my husband what a B
I had to laugh when Deidre said she had a crush on Rupert Bear, so did I!
Can't believe R Bryan got murdered just to get away from Gail!..actually...
Dawn who gets the job working for alan later went on to play WPC Donna Harris in The Bill for a few years
❤ Bet & Alec.
Brian and Gail had only been remarried a year. They seemed happy enough in August 88. What went wrong? And so quickly?
Chris Quentin wanted to move to America with Leeza Gibbons, so the writers got spiteful and killed him off, and in doing so, killed any chance of him returning. They chose to write the breakdown of their second marriage for dramatic tension. I reckon it worked!
How could the writers ever hope to rescue the good character of Gail from doing such a heartless and pointless thing as denying Bryan's mother a little solace. How uselessly cruel!
Absolutely.
Gail should be happy now, she wanted poor Brian out of her life, Brian gave her everything she demanded, but like a spoilt Brat, as soon as she got it, she didn't want it anymore, what a detestable character.
I feel so for Ivy
Percy to Jack: "have you got deathwatch beetle?". Jack replies: "I dunno Percy, hang and let me unscrew me wooden leg and have a shufty for ya" 😂😂 love some of these lines
David’s born the year after this. Sarah was a baby during this.
Alec was such a misery, I always wished Bet had found someone less penny pinching and selfish.
Brain Tilsley’s death, The Tilsley Marriage falls apart.
Is every person on that street a narcissist?
Sandra - shout first, think later - Stubbs. I felt sorry for Ken, which doesn’t happen much.
How many people watch modern day Corrie now?
I certainly don't, it's horrendous!
Gail is a right arse, I am sure she could have said it a nicer way to Ivy that they were not together anymore. What a horrible way to say her and St Brian were no longer an item.
Gail's selfish phase!
R.i.P. Bryan ☹
The writers really messed up with the writing of Brian's death. All of it.
Yep, Chris Quentin was against being killed off too - but the producers insisted.
Sounds like the story where Ernie's murderer was back in touch with Emily. Ideas must have been short on the ground around that time.
I agree %100😊
Gail tut tut what a cow to do that when she dident want him anymore having the last word poor me syndrome she ended up with martin thats justice for ya 😂😂😂😂
Im proud of Brian putting Gail in her place, for his own sake and on behalf of Nicky. His love for his son driving him. Ivy raised a good son and loving father. Briliiant acting
Thank you so much. You are helping me sip as much of the brilliant tea that has been brewing on Coronation street for the better part of 70 years.
I’m sure Bernie played the father of del and Rodney trotter in only fools and horses (I recognise the voice) or am I wrong?
Well spotted. I think you are correct. Both are played by Peter Woodthorpe. A distinctive voice indeed.
Oh well said Shirl! Bang on.
The power of the fast forward button!
I can skip Gail this time around.
Bye bye Gail 🙄
How did the police know it was Gail’s husband without any ID?
How dare Gail go against the wishes of Brian's mother? It is just hateful!
lol
How do you know they weren't the wishes of Brian? A wife doesn't have to pander the parents of the deceased.
No she buts not as if she loved Brian anymore and to say "he's not Ivy's son or Brian's" when he's exactly that. She was the reason he was out of the house that night anyway this was the least she could do @@londonlady227
Did Alan Bradley try to try it on with Martin's then girlfriend? He was one creepy bloke.
01:05 - 01:12 oh you sick coronation street writers 😂
Jack... if our Vera would go to the mid east lol
The way the writers handled Brian & Gail's deteriorating marriage felt so forced in creating the climax for Brian's exit - very strange watching it back
Rita is so naive.
And Allen is a rotten snake in the grass.
Ivy is an awful person but Gail was wrong to not have a Catholic funeral for Brian.
I agree Gail was wrong and she no endearing qualities anymore. Ivy looks as though she's on the road to vengeance and quite right. Looking forward to the battles ahead.
Gail was way worse than Ivy. Ivy doted on Brian. Gail is one selfish b*tch.
Too right
Brian wasn't religious. It's not up Ivy but next of kin, that was Gail.
How wooden is Gail’s mate Pauline! 🤦♂️ I hope little Warren Jackson knew it was only pretend, must have been quite traumatic for him. Older Warren said about Brian’s death on the kids from Corrie special.
Gail's a hypocrite! How dare she say shes burying her husband the way she sees fit when she told him she didnt love him & wanted a divorce. Cow.
Go Dawn!
I think the battle between Gail and Ivy started way before Brian Tilsley was killed off sure remember when Ivy tried to stop Audrey from going round to Gail and Brian’s house for dinner I’m not saying that’s how it started I don’t know how it started but I think it started way before that as well but I do know it definitely started way before Brian Tilsley was even killed off
Alf’s always the one going round telling of death isn’t he? He’s like the professional mourner.
Yep he’s always called up to help with funeral arrangements too - I can remember both Rita and Hilda turning to him for assistance!
Always thought ivy was to soft with Gail she didn't give her half enough
I’m really surprised at the swearing used in Coronation Street at this time nowadays no swearing but plenty of murders and drug dealers LOL!
I know which I prefer! 😉
@@EveHenleySpread yep, neither ☺️
I just wish today’s Street had a bit more good humour and not have every character that comes in to be a psychopath or somebody with an Alterio motive
Well tbh, I wouldn’t know.. haven’t watched it properly in about 20 years BUT I have seen the odd episode of recent times. I was shocked at how dull and lifeless it was.. and so serious too! I don’t want that from Corrie, I love the humour of the late 70s/early 80s.. it was almost a sitcom! I suppose things have to move on.. but I don’t! 😉
All "council television" plus even streaming services must feed us all..."THE MESSAGE" 😂
That Carol woman calling Alan a bastard! They don’t use that word anymore on any soap these days.
Mrs Keel from Grange Hill 2:30:36
2:33:09 oi why has corrie got a covid variant on the wall
They were ahead of their time! 😉
I wondered that to
That says Omnicrom not Omicron.
Bryan stabbed
Richard a murderer drowned
Joe Drowned
Micheal Heart Attack
Martin escaped with his life.
Gail’s got more husbands underground than above.
