Apprentice builder is good for fixing upgrade schedules. If I have an upgrade that is 5 days and 18 hours and seems to end in late night, I can just assign him to that building that aligns to my gaming hours.

There is also a not so obvious benefit to the apprentice. There is value in modifying finish time to when you will be able to play. For instance if something finishes when you just got asleep you 'waste' the whole night. But if you can speed it up and finish before bed, there will be no waste.
u are still not getting apprentice builder concept. Its not for all buildings it will work for only one at a time. so apply on the building which still has more then 8hrs to complete. nothing will be waste. even this apprentice builder is huge value pack compared to builder potions.

However, as the math he did before, 5.5 gems make up for 1 hr of gemming. Hence, rather than buying a 500 gems for 1 hr save, you can just spend 6 gems whenever you need. Which, as the video stated, only worth the saving time of 500 gems in 91.2 days. It is a fallacy that an expensive deal seems really good and pays off well but actually requires lots of investment - in this case, regular logins at the exact 23hrs which in terms of saving time, you would be wasting as eventually the builder will reset when you are sleeping unless you wanna trade health for gaming.
Goblin event with 40gems/ day. My choice is lv 1 with sale on shop and lv 2 with 500 gem And will get return after 150 days(if compare to goblin event for 40gems/ day ).
If you don't mind me asking, what level are your heroes? I typically burn my excess gems on hero books. If I were to guess, I'd say I probably have purchased about 10 hero books for excess gems acquired through selling magical items, obstacle removal, challenges, etc. My Queen is lv80/90, King is lv80/90, Warden is 60/65. Champ is 30/40. I recently dropped 2,000 gems into that builder, and instantly regretted it. You could only buy 1 book a week, but truth be told, I'd rather have 4 hero books, than that builder, entirely. LOL I guess it's trivial, at the end of the day. With how much heroes cost to upgrade at that level, it's not like you could pop a Dark rune, level up a hero, use a book, and immediately level it again, since they take 200k+ dark to upgrade and the storage only holds 300k :/
@@dollahbill510 Me myself i bought the buidler pack and level up it to lv 4(for easy time control), and i stack my gems to another event like goblin buidler to spen, since i lv 18 10 equip (2K, 4Q,2G,3R) i really chill about speed up the hero upgrade, i just war once per week and stop for 3-4 days for cwl and get 8 star and keep again so i dont use book of hero since th16 release.
I think that they can let it so, the only think that I would love to see, would be a possibility to schedule like 3 or 4 days of apprentice work, as suggested in the video

the one additional thing to consider is, that you have the flexability to use your apprentice builder on anything building related. It can give you the possibility to speed up a upgrade so that for example it does not end in the middle of the night, what would reduce your effective builder time and so the real value grows even more. So i defenetly think it is worthit
agree. I like that part most actually. it's priceless. the video is arguing that it's worth it more to gem ores. but ores are free, and my opinion is that one should rely on skills but not equipment levels to play this game. especially now the defense has been nerf'ed to the ground, one more reason not to gem ores.
Or putting time between your upgrades to make sure all your builders aren't free at once and being forced to wait to collect resources before you can start another one!
Considering the total price of 6.5k gems. If they would have just added new builder for 3.5k gems but would have been locked behind th13/th14 requirement. Then all this drama wouldn't have started in the first place. And cherry on the cake is that normal builder benefits from builder potions. In short AB has worst ROI than normal builder considered max level where it only reduces 1/3 day every 24hrs.

That would mean thay 24 hours of upg would be equivanent to 44 hours of upg so 44/24 = 11/6 = 1 5/6 = 1.83333.... so upgrading a building so every day is equivalent a day and 20 hours (24 hours[1 day] = 44 hours [1 5/6, 1.8333 day's]
We have six builders, I don't think building is the limiting factor of the game......lab upgrades, ores or heroes usually are and gems should be spent there imo
I’ve already saved a lil over 8 days with the apprentice. It’s absolutely worth it if u were like me and hoarded gems. I had 6500 gems just doing nothing so I bought it and maxed it. It’s still worth it tho even if u buy the gems over time because u have it forever. That’s only if u are planning on investing that kinda time in this game.

I have logged on everyday before the AB and after it came out, I just maxed out TH11 going on to 12 and the AB has been one the best things I’ve bought so far in the game I only got it at level 3 so it only take 3 hours off everyday but when my upgrades are starting to take more than a day or two now some take a week / a bit more, to take 3h off everyday has been great help
I've shown up everyday for more than 3 years. With an exception of 3 days when i had to repair my phone. I simply have 1 acc. It takes no time to show up tap gems and leave after 🤷🏽♂️

The other thing is for most players you can't get on during the exact time the upgrade finishes to start a next one or you might not have enough loot. So the builder sits there doing nothing anyway and the apprentice took away his value. So to use him efficiently you want to do some mental gymnastics on when you are playing and whether the upgrade will finish early enough or late enough to hit that time period. Players don't wanna do that. But it does help in that way to give more efficiency to upgrades based on when you are playing. So its value isn't set in stone, just about when you use him. Heck if you max him out and you have an hour to play but a building has up to 9 hours left, that shortens it to 1 hour and you can get that builder up to the next one without wasting his value. Honestly I'm trying to level him for the maxed account aspect... but as a th13 I will never get there.
Got level 2 so that I can help with the annoying overnight timers, but will be stockpiling for future goblin builder events because 40/day is a much better value when it comes up IMO
Great video and in my own research I came to the conclusion that the best bang for buck was between level 4 and 5 as then it gets way to expensive for the person that misses days/weeks through various reasons

The problem is, the lab is the bottle neck, finishing every other upgrade earlier is meaningless if you've still got to wait much longer for the lab upgrades to finish.
This is quite a good analysis, but imo there’s one more factor: One little advantage of AB is the fact that it can kinda make some upgrades fit into your gaming schedule better. For example, if there are upgrades that are supposed to finish while you’re sleeping, you can make it so that they end faster, thus making it possible to start one more upgrade that day. Also, tf are those AI-generated captions? 😭💀
The other issue with it is that it also becomes less necessary when there are gaps in your play time. So if I typically play at certain times of day I might be able to time it so that the upgrades are completed when I’m online so that I can start a new build. But if the upgrade completes in a window where I typically don’t play like at night it won’t really matter how many times I used the apprentice. I’ll still only start the next build when I play next which could be 8 hours. I was hoping to see that it improved more as you upgrade but it actually gets worse. I’m not gonna waste my time upgrading. Level 1 is fine.
Very late on this video, but there is something I did not see anything on. In legend league, it takes 2 days to fill in your gold and elixir. If 2 builds are 3 days away, you are loosing those resources. Using the apprentice optimizes delay between builder availability, and can really help you making sure you have a free builder every 2 days.
I've been playing casually every day for the last three years. TH8 to Th13 since then. I plan to continue this with the boys till we die. This apprentice is the goat for us
My little tip for all players who buys the apprentice builder is use it on lowest time upgrade to speed up the working of the builder and upgrade more buildings easily
ı play on 16 accounts, apprentice builder is a life saving change in clash. the value gets crazier when apprentice bought in early game as soon as possible.
192 days breakeven with heroes book is without opportunity cost since you get the "192 hours" now, rather than 192 days later. Not to mention the trouble of logging in at the same time everyday for 192 days...
I find it useful coming on TH13 where most upgrades take several days, I can essentially use the AB to take 1-3 days off of a big upgrade and cycle out the smaller upgrades to begin with
I've been playing for the past 4 years ~ every day - one 2 month break. Currently max th13, titan 3. I bought to builder pass once, and the 8bit hero skin line/base. Otherwise a completely free base. I use gems for donations and the apprentice has finally given me something to spend my 3k extra gems on!
Mine is level 6 in my main acc. My alt is level 7. Didn’t spent a penny. I just always wanted to have a lot of gems. Suddenly they released this builder 🤓
I use it so I can better manage my upgrades. For example if the upgrade will be finished at night i use the apprentice builder so that my builders don't take a break from other upgrades.
If you upgrade it straight to max level it only takes less than 2 weeks to recover the first level, a little more than 3 weeks for the first AND second level, so on and so on up to "only" 147.72 (148) days to recover the FULL 6500 gems value. It wouldn't be a very good investment if you upgrade it in baby steps as you go along through the TH levels.. except it would take you many many months to go from unlocking it to having a TH level high enough to be able to upgrade it to level 8 (assuming you actually upgrade your stuff at each TH level) so actually it's kinda worth it even if you play every once in a while. The worst it could happen is that you don't quite break even at each upgrade but if you remember to use it you get close every time and at the end you get your profit.
Also, what do you mean you "discovered" that gemming upgrades depends on how much time is left? Like... What? I don't think anyone has ever made it to TH level 2 without noticing.. Maybe you meant the scaling of the cost? But even that you notice it as soon as you start getting many hour's long upgrades.. Or maybe you didn't mean discover but remember? Idk just asking, maybe you just never even tried to look at upgrades' gems cost so you never noticed..
I will not say I will be on every day bc I don’t know what will happen in the future. But since he has come out, I have been using him every day, I set timers when I’m not sure if I’ll be remembering about him. I like the idea of being able to schedule him every day. But I would like to propose that we should be able to max him the second you unlock him. I didn’t know that he was capped at lvl 2 for th10, you’d get SO much more value if you could even maybe just drop $20 on the first 4 lvls at th10. That would be a nice change. Overall, I’ve said this to everyone that thinks it’s comparatively better than every option bc unlike the BoH or gems he is permanently helping you, every day which is the biggest W.
I have one thing to add - there’s actually potential for more value/time saved if you use it on upgrades that would finish while you are asleep. e.g. if i save 7 hours on a building supposed to finish at 3 am, i can start a new upgrade instead at 8pm. if i didn’t use the builder, i would have started the upgrade whenever i woke up (say 8am). so even though i technically only saved 7 hours, i’m able to start an upgrade 12 hours earlier than if i didn’t have apprentice builder. this lets you get more value out of it
The apprentice is especially useful for finishing a building that will be finished in the night after I go to bed. In this case the 3 hours less actually saves me 8 hours of construction, so it's profitable at lower levels.
I like to think of it this way: max apprentice builder costs 6500 gems, and they work 8h a day. So 3 apprentice builders would cost 19500 gems, and 3 apprentice wardens, together, do the work of 1 builder. Now the question: if you already have everything, would you spend 19500 gems on a 7th builder? If you would, then the apprentice builder is worth it, if not, its not
What about a comparison to the amount of time to max your townhall level, to time saved? As in if you have max apprentice, how much time does that shave off of your total build time for each townhall? Time is precious, and knowing that ratio could be more worthwhile in the long run compared to breakeven points with in game items and gems. Which could also save gems in the long run too.
I had around 8 almost 9,000 gems for the apprentice builder. I would mainly spend gems to save a day or 2 on upgrading hero’s if I didn’t have them during CWL. I got the guy to max level as soon as possible and the fact that I have him for the rest of my clans life I’m cool with that.
I’m a TH13 with a level 7 apprentice builder, I’ve been playing daily for a couple months now, and I’m pretty happy with it. To be honest, my biggest gripe is that you can’t max it instantly, its level is locked behind Town Hall levels.
It in my opinion not a bad concept to help us out but they could make it always active until upgrade on that building is done and would wait a day to finish an upgrade or add more of them
Most important thing is that lots of clash of clans players are not active recent even legend league players was ot doing there 8 attacks per day because I had my own life bases in legend league in this time, maybe clash of focus on there players not focus on money making policies
Ive played the game for years with my friends and i will keep playing it. I just slowly invest in it. Seems like a goodbdeal honestly, you get a permanent upgrade.
Another benefit, aside from the many times mentioned: "finishing an upgrade before you sleep," is that it speeds up upgrades, it doesn't start a new one. Need that hero max level faster? Focus on em. Want to get a new building that needs 15 levels? Reduce the time one it so it catches up much faster. This is extremely useful, and while yes the cost:effect ratio is abysmal to the point of making both notes worthless they still make the issue much less prominent. Great concept, just halve the cost across the board and he would be pretty good, 150 days is still a LOT but definitely more reasonable along with all the tricks.
I’ve found the main benefit of the apprentice builder, is just to correct timing. So nice if an upgrade finishes at like 5am and you can just correct it. It’s been really nice to nice stress as much about when upgrades finish, since he can always just correct it
also if you spend all the gems on books,even if you do it in endgame,in 4 year afert all the time reductions and th19 it will be like you spend it for nothing but the aprentices is forever
Remember when they would actually give you good stuff in shop instead of stupid ores. Like the 10 free glowy ore vs one training potion maybe it was a laboratory potion. And also back in the day when the shop wasn't capped. If you had enough to spend you could spend. raid metals you can spend it all on whatever you needed which is also capped but not you can only purchase gold like once. If you had the gems and were rich I guess you can spend it on the unlimited stuff.
The best benefit of the Apprentice Builder it's that you can focus it value in a single upgrade. That mean that you can for example use it only on heroes, and at max level you will be saving 56 hours of ANY hero upgrade which is HUGE. You will be done with your heroes way faster than before that way.
I have one account that I've had since TH10 was the highest TH and another I've been playing for 2 years. I play in a clan with friends who have also been playing for just as long. So, I guess in our case it's worth it. None of us are even at TH16 and TH17 is probably coming this fall. Furthermore, we tend to have heroes maxed long before everything else at a TH level, so the comparison to books of heroes is less relevant because you don't need them for a significant amount of time at a TH level. You can use the books for pets, but that's really a waste of gems, if you're spending gems on pets.
The apprentice builder should be able to remove obstacles and upgrade walls or simple tasks while no other builders are available. That's the least Supercell can do after making so many players waste 500 gems on this thing.
Two more things to consider: Spending 500 gems on the goblin builder/researcher is worth 300 hours; and if a builder sits available for an hour you lose value from the apprentice
I want to mention that most of the time it's not worth it to waste gems on Ores. When the hero equipment came out, I was playing as a new TH12. Now I have been in TH13 for 1 month already, and I have 2 Epic Equipment maxed out and 8 common equipment maxed out, and my smithing is 90% full of ores. And I'm 100% F2P, i don't even buy the golden pass or spend raid medals on ores. You get that much just by playing the game. You will complete the hero equipment faster than you will max out your defenses or laboratory.

We have six builders, I don't think building is the limiting factor of the game......lab upgrades, ores or heroes usually are and gems should be spent there imo

I’ve already saved a lil over 8 days with the apprentice. It’s absolutely worth it if u were like me and hoarded gems. I had 6500 gems just doing nothing so I bought it and maxed it. It’s still worth it tho even if u buy the gems over time because u have it forever. That’s only if u are planning on investing that kinda time in this game.
@@blkjohnnybravo3506 ironic because everyone I know including myself literally had that many gems or more and we alll just spent them on books and stuff and immediately after supercel releases this builder like they were waiting for a massive gem spend rush so people wouldn’t be able to actually use the gems they been saving for something like this. Couldn’t agree more. That’s thy the goblin builder, especially for lab, is the best use of gems in the game.
I just upgraded it to level 7 and it’s excellent when their is a urgent need for upgrade.

I have logged on everyday before the AB and after it came out, I just maxed out TH11 going on to 12 and the AB has been one the best things I’ve bought so far in the game I only got it at level 3 so it only take 3 hours off everyday but when my upgrades are starting to take more than a day or two now some take a week / a bit more, to take 3h off everyday has been great help

I've shown up everyday for more than 3 years. With an exception of 3 days when i had to repair my phone. I simply have 1 acc. It takes no time to show up tap gems and leave after 🤷🏽♂️

@@bdlegendcoc got to th16 less than a week ago too. Didn't max th15 but I maxed enough of it. I get to enjoy being mad TH... for at least a few months before being left behind again 😅
The other thing is for most players you can't get on during the exact time the upgrade finishes to start a next one or you might not have enough loot. So the builder sits there doing nothing anyway and the apprentice took away his value.
So to use him efficiently you want to do some mental gymnastics on when you are playing and whether the upgrade will finish early enough or late enough to hit that time period. Players don't wanna do that. But it does help in that way to give more efficiency to upgrades based on when you are playing. So its value isn't set in stone, just about when you use him. Heck if you max him out and you have an hour to play but a building has up to 9 hours left, that shortens it to 1 hour and you can get that builder up to the next one without wasting his value.
Honestly I'm trying to level him for the maxed account aspect... but as a th13 I will never get there.

Got level 2 so that I can help with the annoying overnight timers, but will be stockpiling for future goblin builder events because 40/day is a much better value when it comes up IMO

Great video and in my own research I came to the conclusion that the best bang for buck was between level 4 and 5 as then it gets way to expensive for the person that misses days/weeks through various reasons

The problem is, the lab is the bottle neck, finishing every other upgrade earlier is meaningless if you've still got to wait much longer for the lab upgrades to finish.

This is quite a good analysis, but imo there’s one more factor:
One little advantage of AB is the fact that it can kinda make some upgrades fit into your gaming schedule better. For example, if there are upgrades that are supposed to finish while you’re sleeping, you can make it so that they end faster, thus making it possible to start one more upgrade that day.

The other issue with it is that it also becomes less necessary when there are gaps in your play time. So if I typically play at certain times of day I might be able to time it so that the upgrades are completed when I’m online so that I can start a new build. But if the upgrade completes in a window where I typically don’t play like at night it won’t really matter how many times I used the apprentice. I’ll still only start the next build when I play next which could be 8 hours. I was hoping to see that it improved more as you upgrade but it actually gets worse. I’m not gonna waste my time upgrading. Level 1 is fine.
Very late on this video, but there is something I did not see anything on. In legend league, it takes 2 days to fill in your gold and elixir. If 2 builds are 3 days away, you are loosing those resources. Using the apprentice optimizes delay between builder availability, and can really help you making sure you have a free builder every 2 days.
I've been playing casually every day for the last three years. TH8 to Th13 since then. I plan to continue this with the boys till we die. This apprentice is the goat for us
An idea i really like is that the apprentice builder slowly gets xp over time, kind of how a irl apprentice slowly gets better at his work

My little tip for all players who buys the apprentice builder is use it on lowest time upgrade to speed up the working of the builder and upgrade more buildings easily

ı play on 16 accounts, apprentice builder is a life saving change in clash. the value gets crazier when apprentice bought in early game as soon as possible.
192 days breakeven with heroes book is without opportunity cost since you get the "192 hours" now, rather than 192 days later.
Not to mention the trouble of logging in at the same time everyday for 192 days...
It is good for me as a th 12 player and max level 6 on th 12 . Since I'm always in titan 1or 2 no issue of ores 🤩

I find it useful coming on TH13 where most upgrades take several days, I can essentially use the AB to take 1-3 days off of a big upgrade and cycle out the smaller upgrades to begin with
I've been playing for the past 4 years ~ every day - one 2 month break. Currently max th13, titan 3. I bought to builder pass once, and the 8bit hero skin line/base. Otherwise a completely free base. I use gems for donations and the apprentice has finally given me something to spend my 3k extra gems on!
honestly besides ores and hero equipment,theres is no better way to spend your gems, and is speed building upgrades ralated so is worth it

I use it so I can better manage my upgrades. For example if the upgrade will be finished at night i use the apprentice builder so that my builders don't take a break from other upgrades.
If you upgrade it straight to max level it only takes less than 2 weeks to recover the first level, a little more than 3 weeks for the first AND second level, so on and so on up to "only" 147.72 (148) days to recover the FULL 6500 gems value.
It wouldn't be a very good investment if you upgrade it in baby steps as you go along through the TH levels.. except it would take you many many months to go from unlocking it to having a TH level high enough to be able to upgrade it to level 8 (assuming you actually upgrade your stuff at each TH level) so actually it's kinda worth it even if you play every once in a while. The worst it could happen is that you don't quite break even at each upgrade but if you remember to use it you get close every time and at the end you get your profit.
Also, what do you mean you "discovered" that gemming upgrades depends on how much time is left? Like... What? I don't think anyone has ever made it to TH level 2 without noticing..
Maybe you meant the scaling of the cost? But even that you notice it as soon as you start getting many hour's long upgrades..

I will not say I will be on every day bc I don’t know what will happen in the future. But since he has come out, I have been using him every day, I set timers when I’m not sure if I’ll be remembering about him. I like the idea of being able to schedule him every day. But I would like to propose that we should be able to max him the second you unlock him. I didn’t know that he was capped at lvl 2 for th10, you’d get SO much more value if you could even maybe just drop $20 on the first 4 lvls at th10. That would be a nice change. Overall, I’ve said this to everyone that thinks it’s comparatively better than every option bc unlike the BoH or gems he is permanently helping you, every day which is the biggest W.

I have one thing to add - there’s actually potential for more value/time saved if you use it on upgrades that would finish while you are asleep. e.g. if i save 7 hours on a building supposed to finish at 3 am, i can start a new upgrade instead at 8pm. if i didn’t use the builder, i would have started the upgrade whenever i woke up (say 8am). so even though i technically only saved 7 hours, i’m able to start an upgrade 12 hours earlier than if i didn’t have apprentice builder. this lets you get more value out of it
And here i am farming with the same army for two years nonestop !!

The apprentice is especially useful for finishing a building that will be finished in the night after I go to bed. In this case the 3 hours less actually saves me 8 hours of construction, so it's profitable at lower levels.

I have been saving gems since town hall 1 and upgraded the apprentice to max on the first day.
I like to think of it this way: max apprentice builder costs 6500 gems, and they work 8h a day. So 3 apprentice builders would cost 19500 gems, and 3 apprentice wardens, together, do the work of 1 builder. Now the question: if you already have everything, would you spend 19500 gems on a 7th builder? If you would, then the apprentice builder is worth it, if not, its not
What about a comparison to the amount of time to max your townhall level, to time saved? As in if you have max apprentice, how much time does that shave off of your total build time for each townhall? Time is precious, and knowing that ratio could be more worthwhile in the long run compared to breakeven points with in game items and gems. Which could also save gems in the long run too.

I had around 8 almost 9,000 gems for the apprentice builder. I would mainly spend gems to save a day or 2 on upgrading hero’s if I didn’t have them during CWL. I got the guy to max level as soon as possible and the fact that I have him for the rest of my clans life I’m cool with that.

I’m a TH13 with a level 7 apprentice builder, I’ve been playing daily for a couple months now, and I’m pretty happy with it. To be honest, my biggest gripe is that you can’t max it instantly, its level is locked behind Town Hall levels.
It in my opinion not a bad concept to help us out but they could make it always active until upgrade on that building is done and would wait a day to finish an upgrade or add more of them

Since you asked for it, I've been playing the game since 2018 almost every day (except maybe one year of pause all together)
Apprentice builder is a one-time buy. Books, ores, etc, take multiple purchases. So no matter what the apprentice will no matter what be a profit
Most important thing is that lots of clash of clans players are not active recent even legend league players was ot doing there 8 attacks per day because I had my own life bases in legend league in this time, maybe clash of focus on there players not focus on money making policies
Ive played the game for years with my friends and i will keep playing it. I just slowly invest in it. Seems like a goodbdeal honestly, you get a permanent upgrade.

Realistically the time you can reactivate the apprentice will get later and later each day until you miss a day.

best use of gems is to get epic ability and use event medals for 60 starry ores and remaining glowy etc whatever you need.
Another benefit, aside from the many times mentioned: "finishing an upgrade before you sleep," is that it speeds up upgrades, it doesn't start a new one. Need that hero max level faster? Focus on em. Want to get a new building that needs 15 levels? Reduce the time one it so it catches up much faster.
This is extremely useful, and while yes the cost:effect ratio is abysmal to the point of making both notes worthless they still make the issue much less prominent. Great concept, just halve the cost across the board and he would be pretty good, 150 days is still a LOT but definitely more reasonable along with all the tricks.
I’ve found the main benefit of the apprentice builder, is just to correct timing. So nice if an upgrade finishes at like 5am and you can just correct it. It’s been really nice to nice stress as much about when upgrades finish, since he can always just correct it
also if you spend all the gems on books,even if you do it in endgame,in 4 year afert all the time reductions and th19 it will be like you spend it for nothing but the aprentices is forever

Remember when they would actually give you good stuff in shop instead of stupid ores. Like the 10 free glowy ore vs one training potion maybe it was a laboratory potion. And also back in the day when the shop wasn't capped. If you had enough to spend you could spend. raid metals you can spend it all on whatever you needed which is also capped but not you can only purchase gold like once. If you had the gems and were rich I guess you can spend it on the unlimited stuff.
The best benefit of the Apprentice Builder it's that you can focus it value in a single upgrade. That mean that you can for example use it only on heroes, and at max level you will be saving 56 hours of ANY hero upgrade which is HUGE. You will be done with your heroes way faster than before that way.
I have one account that I've had since TH10 was the highest TH and another I've been playing for 2 years. I play in a clan with friends who have also been playing for just as long. So, I guess in our case it's worth it. None of us are even at TH16 and TH17 is probably coming this fall. Furthermore, we tend to have heroes maxed long before everything else at a TH level, so the comparison to books of heroes is less relevant because you don't need them for a significant amount of time at a TH level. You can use the books for pets, but that's really a waste of gems, if you're spending gems on pets.
I have a level 1 apprentice builder. I used it every day on a level 3 to 4 builder hut upgrade. It saved me a total of 8 hours.

They just need to make apprentice builder to help each builder once a day, so it can help 5 builders in different times of the day
the idea would have sold me if the aprentice removed base obstacles instead of sleeping his ass off all day
The apprentice builder should be able to remove obstacles and upgrade walls or simple tasks while no other builders are available. That's the least Supercell can do after making so many players waste 500 gems on this thing.
Two more things to consider:
Spending 500 gems on the goblin builder/researcher is worth 300 hours;
and if a builder sits available for an hour you lose value from the apprentice
as someone with maxed heroes and almost maxed equipment, i'm going to be investing all my gems into him
I want to mention that most of the time it's not worth it to waste gems on Ores.
When the hero equipment came out, I was playing as a new TH12. Now I have been in TH13 for 1 month already, and I have 2 Epic Equipment maxed out and 8 common equipment maxed out, and my smithing is 90% full of ores.
And I'm 100% F2P, i don't even buy the golden pass or spend raid medals on ores. You get that much just by playing the game. You will complete the hero equipment faster than you will max out your defenses or laboratory.
Apprentice Builder is good for finishing something off so you can start another upgrade before you go to bed this in itself saves you 8 hours of upgrading the new upgrade
