It wasn't cut because it would be no good, it was cut because the whole character was cut in response to the voice actor having health problems. Which is really sad...
If anything, we lost a pretty good piece of animation by Milt Kahl of someone taking his seat for the performance or whatever that occurs during this piece. giphy.com/gifs/milt-kahl-3o6UB2FgPfd64GIujK
It's not that disney did not think that it wasn't good enough, It's because the person that sung this died and they had to change the story, The last movie we get to hear his voice is "The jungle book" as king louis.
Everyone referring to this guy as the voice actor - his name was Louis Prima, he sang I wanna be like you from the jungle book and voiced King Louie, he's also known for his jazz song "When you're smiling"
Light-hearted? Come again? Those lyrics are as cynical as you can get. It's outright saying that people are more animal than the animals in the zoo! They didn't even try to make it subtle. It's lyrical dissonance at it's very finest. Not to say that it's a bad song though. If anything, I argue it fits with the sad and dark tone very well. I can't say that I agree with what it says, but that's beside the point.
This feels more like the Jungle Book or Robin Hood than the Rescuers. Not that that’s a bad thing. I have several conflicting feelings about this song, regardless of how catchy it is. On one hand, it has the "Humans are Bad" message that suits Madam Medusa, but on the other hand, it distracts from the main story. Within the movie's universe, the animals (minus Brutus and Nero) wear clothes and generally act like humans. But seeing the zoo animals playing a jazz song (e.g. an elephant playing a drum, a monkey playing a tuba, etc) looks kind of ridiculous. It feels like a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. The real reason the song was removed was because of Prima's health. But, in some ways, Prima's presence in this draft feels shoehorned. At the end of the day, the story was about Bernard and Bianca finding a young girl and helping her escape a cruel woman. Prima would have distracted from it IMO.
Once he had the health issues and was no longer able to finish his parts, they actually rewrote the plot of the whole movie since they completely scrapped his part. They wanted no one else to voice it. So the story would have been fairly different had the part still been in it
I mean to be fair the movie was extremely different when he was still in the movie. Prima's health issues and coma caused them to scrap the initial concept; so the entire movie would've been very VERY different.
Heh, yeah, Disney's "Robin Hood" also felt kind of Hanna-Barbera -ish, so much I made a RUclips Poop about it! ("Disney Buys Out Hanna-Barbera") But the finished "The Rescuers" did have at least a few minor H-B -esque moments, like Luke running like Paw Rugg or Droopalong Coyote as he and the other swamp animals charge to Medusa's boat.
You want to talk about difference in plot. The villain was not going to be Madam Medusa, it was originally going to be Cruella deVille. Not even kidding, the villain from 101 Dalmatians. She dressed in crocodile skin this time and wanted to make a fur coat out of a polar bear from the zoo.
Nobody ever said that the song was no good; it simply didn't fit with the final script for the film. Many other songs were cut from this and many other films. Another presumably good song, written by the new song-writing duo, was also cut, called "Just Might Be Tomorrow," replaced with "Someone's Waiting for You." I for one I'm glad Disney steered away from another The Jungle Book/Robin Hood type film into something with more substance and depth.
TaranWanderer2 actually it was cut because Louis Prima found.out that he had a brain tumor. Disney didn't want to be burden.on him so the entire.character was deleted
Alex Le Quesne Actually Louis Prima died in 1978, one year after "The Rescuers" release date. However, Joe Flynn (Mr Snoops) died in 1974 after his voicework was completed. The film underwent a rewrite to the plot of "The Rescuers" that many are familiar of; I read that the bear Louie was supposed to be included in the scene where Bernard and Bianca look for Penny at the zoo.
TaranWanderer2 I remember around the time of "The Rescuers" Blu-Ray release (2012), some demo recordings of deleted songs initally written for the film have been uploaded on RUclips for a while only for them to be, well, deleted. And some of those deleted songs weren't even released on the "The Lost Tracks" EP of The Rescuers that was released on iTunes. Also, I think there was another song called "The Need to Be Loved", which was replaced by "Someone's Waiting for You". "...To Be Loved" was to have lyrics by Paul Francis Webster (songwriter for the Spiderman song)
The voice actor had a brain tumor and went into a coma. three years later he died. they canceled the whole character and changed the storyline of the rescuers because they couldn't find anyone as good as him.
i think people are misunderstanding stuff about this song. This character was supposed to be acted out by the man who sang this song. all the songs for this character were previously recorded, however, the man had a tumor discovered in his brain and went into a coma and died, i believe three years later. they couldn't find anyone who could equal or be better to voice this character, so they cut the character out completely, including the songs. they rewrote the story after cutting out that character. this character though is apart of the original story.
The man you spoke of was called Louis, He Died "5" Years After Production Louis Really Had Cerebral Haemorrhage He passed away in 1978, unfortunately he only Had 2 Jobs At The Walt Disney Company
It wasn’t cut because it was “no good”, it was cut because the character was. The character was cut because the man who was going to play him died of a brain tumor. Sooo yeah.
Of course, reading this Wiki entry suggests a completely different story they had in mind before scrapping that for something else. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rescuers#Production
Sorry, but this sequence would work better in a The Jungle Book or Aristocats but it is tonally out of place in The Rescuers. I am glad it got cut out despite the sad reasons.
That's because it was the same person, Louis prima, He had a tumor in the brain, fell into a coma and died three years after, not being able to find someone as great as him, they cut the song and the character that sang it from the movie entirely.
no288 Louis Prima, and they actually cut it cause he had a brain tumor and Disney didn't want to be a burden during his last days so they cut.the entire character
It wasn't cut because it would be no good, it was cut because the whole character was cut in response to the voice actor having health problems. Which is really sad...
It was, I'm sure they didn't want to be a burden on him during his final days than they needed to in simply removing him from the film.
If anything, we lost a pretty good piece of animation by Milt Kahl of someone taking his seat for the performance or whatever that occurs during this piece.

SecretIdentityStudio yea the voice of him had a brain tumor and died and the producers couldn't find someone better as the original
Brain tumor then died 3 years after ;-;
+Lord Jay dont for get he went into a coma
It's not that disney did not think that it wasn't good enough,
It's because the person that sung this died and they had to change the story,
The last movie we get to hear his voice is "The jungle book" as king louis.
RIP Louis Prima (1910 1978) Original King Louie Ooh Be Doo I Wanna Be Like You
The song was cut because the voice actor for the bear had a brean tumor then he went into a coma then died 3 years later
They could keep as a theme song though.
3:10 I Love How This Song Ended Up with a Hug! How Cute of Penny and Louis to have a Sweet Friendship Together.
Hard to imagine a song like this in a movie like "The Rescuers". But still, it is an enjoyable song! :-)
They certainly took the movie to a more serious tone the way it came out.
This is so 1970's .
Everyone referring to this guy as the voice actor - his name was Louis Prima, he sang I wanna be like you from the jungle book and voiced King Louie, he's also known for his jazz song "When you're smiling"
This feels like the pre date version of the Trashing Camp from Tarzen
Light-hearted song but it's true it doesn't fit the somewhat dark movie.

They actually changed the storyline because they couldn't find someone to replace the singer
Entertaining jungle book style song.

Reminds me kind of of the crocodile in the princess and fhe frog. Sad to hear about this actor and his death. ;( Disney sure likes jazz music
sarsa72 Lu Louis the Alligator 🐊

This sequence kinda reminded me of The Aristocats as well with the animals playing instruments and all that.
TaranWanderer2 actually it was cut because Louis Prima found.out that he had a brain tumor. Disney didn't want to be burden.on him so the entire.character was deleted
TaranWanderer2 thus was cut becuase the voice died

Would've been perfect if they used it in the end credits. Lovely.
that might've worked. but that is a fun song
Fantastic! Even better than the previous "Peoplitis" video from way back when (which, incidentally wasn't even semi-animated)!
That’s too bad. If Louis Prima would’ve lived a little bit longer, we would’ve like that deleted character.
The voice actor had a brain tumor and went into a coma. three years later he died. they canceled the whole character and changed the storyline of the rescuers because they couldn't find anyone as good as him.
Sounds this song would of been in The Jungle Book
poor louis prima...

He Died "5" Years After Production
Louis Really Had Cerebral Haemorrhage
He passed away in 1978, unfortunately he only Had 2 Jobs At The Walt Disney Company
I wish they would input this song
It's been a long time I hadn't heard this since late 2011!!!!!!!!!
It wasn’t cut because it was “no good”, it was cut because the character was. The character was cut because the man who was going to play him died of a brain tumor. Sooo yeah.
R.I.P luois
this song is very dark
Is that king louie from the jungle book?
They should remake the movie with another voice actor to ATLEAST make him happy in heaven for putting his songs in the movie
Blaze The fox the flareon49 they couldn’t find anybody that suited the voice for the bear better than Louis that’s why they gave up.
Does anybody get Mowgli and Baloo vibes with Penny and Louis?
This is cute. Is it supposed to be a dream sequence for Penny?)
I think it's another animal Penny knew that Bernard and Bianca went to see, perhaps after meeting the old cat Rufus.
Of course, reading this Wiki entry suggests a completely different story they had in mind before scrapping that for something else.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rescuers#Production
Huh, fascinating.
No, the movie was just going to have a completely different script and tone
Exactly! It's so Cute How a Beloved Bear became Friends with a Little Girl! That Scene Shouldn't Have been Cut!
where did you find this clip from?
Richard Canipe It’s on the special edition blueray.
Sorry, but this sequence would work better in a The Jungle Book or Aristocats but it is tonally out of place in The Rescuers. I am glad it got cut out despite the sad reasons.
Too Bad that Song wasn't in The Rescuers and Louis the Bear was a Deleted Disney Character.
That bear sounds like King Louie from The Jungle Book.
That's because it was the same person, Louis prima, He had a tumor in the brain, fell into a coma and died three years after, not being able to find someone as great as him, they cut the song and the character that sang it from the movie entirely.
Salem Jimenez Same actor
glad they cut it, it don't fit in.....anyway... anybody who knows whos singing? his voice sounds familiar
no288 Louis Prima, and they actually cut it cause he had a brain tumor and Disney didn't want to be a burden during his last days so they cut.the entire character
They cut it because the voice actor had a brain tumor went into a coma then died 3 years later not because the song didnt fit
He has the same voice actor as king louie
This is from the rescuers!?!?
Is that Scatman Crothers?
THAT SOUNDED TERRIBLE THAT SONG IS TOO SICK AND IT WAS WEAK AND IT'S DUMB NEXT!!!!!
The man who sung this died of a brain tumor the LEAST you could do is say you dont like this song politely
You had ZERO taste when you wrote this comment, and I hope you've grown up since then.
