- The other day I was cleaning out my closets and was very surprised at how many extra clothes were lying on the shelves with no use. Yes, it is in good condition, but has not been worn for several years.
I sorted through everything from my husband and myself and ended up with a big pile. As much free space appeared, it became easier to breathe. I took away about five jeans alone, so now I have something to sew different things from.
The most useful thing you can make from thick jeans is indoor slippers. You can sew it for yourself and for guests.
1) First you need to make a pattern. For this, old comfortable slippers are suitable; you need to trace the sole and top. I already have this pattern and used it. You can also make a pattern based on your own leg.
The sole must be strong enough and at the same time, the sewing machine must take the places of the stitches, so what you want to put inside must be cut 1 cm smaller.
2) To strengthen the sole, felt, fleece, padding polyester are suitable, you can use a backing for the laminate.
3) I used an old vinyl napkin and padding polyester.
The upper part of the slippers will be decorated with a denim rose.
How to do it:
1) I cut the jeans into strips, 1 cm wide. I stitched them together. Approximately 1.5-2 meters of such braid goes per rose.
2) First, I stitched the beginning of the strip in the center of the slippers, then folded it at an angle towards itself, made a stitch along the folded part, then folded it again and made a stitch. So, in a circle you get a rose. Folds are made all the time in one direction.
3) When everything was ready, I made more stitches in a circle to secure the “petals.”
4) Then I ruffled the fabric so that it would fray and the excess threads would fall off.
5) Due to the rose, the top of the slippers became hard. I cut out calico from the wrong side. I stitched the edging along the edge.
6) I connected all the layers for the sole, glued the napkin with hot glue so that it would not move, and made a stitch along the edge of the sole.
7) I fastened the sole and top of the slippers with clothespins and stitched them together.
8) I stitched a denim trim, 4 cm wide on the front side, turned it inside out onto the sole and sewed it on by hand.
9) Comfortable slippers are ready.
You can wear it and enjoy it.

In the last few years I've gotten rid of about 100 lbs of used denim. I downsized twice and physical issues keep me from doing as much sewing and crafting as I'd like to be doing. It was hard to let it go but I kept just a bit. I made my son's bedspread out of heavyweight denim. It just got better with age. Lasted a long time and nothing he could do to it was going to hurt it. His friends were amazed by it. I just liked the idea of a non destructible cover on my little boy's bed that would mature along with the decor of his room. Once it got too thin in places, I made a skirt out of the rest. Been a denim-crafty girl all my life.

I was looking at these, very well made, and thinking now that I am older I would not wear them down my inside stairs. The bottoms are too slippery, especially as they are used. The mat is a good idea. We (in the US) also have rubber grip material or fabric spray from the sewing store.

Дааа, вспомнились далёкие 70- тые: тогда такой ткани как джинса никто и не знал. Приходилось покупать у фарцовщиков (сейчас мало кто знает) импортные , оригинальные, фирменные джинсы за 300 рэ - в одни в руки (это, между прочим было 2-е зарплаты). Потом кроили их на такие вот похожие тапы- получалось 10 пар. Шили и продавали по 30 рэ за пару. Так вот и выживали. Правда на полоски ткани не хватало, а вот из уголочков и всяких остатков шили ёжиков для иголок (это уже для себя, как бонус) и мышей для котов.

I like to rosette, very clever. I have some extra foam insoles. I just might give this a try. Fleece lining would be cozy. If the bottoms are slippery you can add some fabric glue made for this purpose.

I would rather make something besides slippers because I just wear socks. But I did make a large denim pillow many years ago out of old jeans as a gift for my mother and now that she has passed, I have it, and it's still the same as when I made it. Denim wears like iron, so it's a good idea to save it for projects. Placemats, coasters, book covers or tote bags.
