Very cool video. Love the Handy but almost impossible to get. HD SBBP is a daily. That 114 makes a great old fashion Michter’s 10 year rye wins for me. While the low proof hurts it the overall flavor and perfect balance of it easily wins.
My old military base sold old overholt 114 for $9, yes you read that right, nine. I bought 6. I put an aging spiral in one. I’ll try that in about 8 months. It’s a fantastic purchase.
Old Overholt 114 is a killer high proof budget bottle. It placing higher than OF SBBP is not that surprising for me - OF SBBP is a unicorn (for whatever reason) but it's a bit odd. Drinks hot and spicy but not complex. Great mouth feel and finish but simple. That's where Brown Foremans other SBBP Rye (Jack Daniels) really knocks it out of the park. JD SBBP is so full of flavor that it drinks like a different whiskey as you work through a pour. The flavor is different when the glass is 70 degrees in your house or 85 degrees on your porch (though it's pretty hot and I prefer to drink when I'm not hot).
Just found the Overholt 3 days ago. Found out it was released in 2020 to celebrate the distillery's 210th anniversary. I was worried that meant it was a limited edition, so I bought a 2nd bottle yesterday. Hopefully it starts to catch on like the new Beam 7 Year has. Great bang for the buck.
Can you have andrew give us his flavor diagram for these samples please...if you dont know go back to the last video with him where his art work was called into question. lol
I had Thomas h handy and I was not impressed. Now take that with a grain of salt because I am not a huge rye fan I do like michters barrel strength rye and jack sbbp rye and when I had the handy I was trying a bunch of other high end bourbon so I don't know but I don't think it is worth thr price tag for sure
The Jack barrel proof is my favorite rye right now, but I did pull out my bonded rye last night and it’s a close 2nd…I have an unopened OFBP Rye that I’m not excited about opening after seeing this and some other reviews…
I've had a pour of Handy and I own JDsibbp rye. Have not had the other two but cannot see a $30 bottle being as complex as JDbp rye. Very hard to believe Nathan's results. Cheers
Great content! Like to see the occasional rye matchups to change it up a bit! I got the same bottle from LOWC as Andrew for $59.99 and its a STEAL! Cheers!
That Jack barrel proof rye is killer. I’ve got about 4 of them open and the flavors vary.
Very cool video.

That 114 makes a great old fashion

Seeing you banter with a guest has allowed for your personality to shine through….not trying to be cheesy but this was delightful.
holy cow is right. I am super surprised. that is why I love blinds. cheers

Now that’s an insane price haha
Nice.
$16 on the shelf in my neck of the woods. Can't find the 10 yr though.
Wow!
They def have a dark chocolate kit-kat
Now blind the Old Overholt against Sazerac and Rittenhouse and maybe Rare Breed Rye

I’ll make sure he does it next time 😭
JD is really good. But not as good as their Private Select Rye from 2020. That was off the charts. One of the best whiskeys I’ve ever tasted.

Nice matchup! I have the Thomas H Handy 2023 and it’s awesome IMO! Cheers

Now blind old overholt 114 vs the 10 year old overholt cask strenght .
Great change of pace for the channel
Thomas Handy is the best Rye I’ve ever tasted. Not even close.
Great content!

Damn I need to grab a bottle of that OO 114. Awesome blind/video cheers!🥃
First time watching your channel. I'm distracted. Is your bar super tall or, are your stools/chairs super short?
Bud the cookie is a sugar wafer! Lol
