Ye both have been a big part of my recovery. 8 months clean now and into cork fellowship in 3 weeks. Keep up the good work

A lot of young strong Irishmen are slipping through the cracks , no hobbies, no interest in education , mental health issues we need men’s sheds for the lads 15-18 who might need some guidance from men 40-50 who have lived through similar hard times and have come out the other side and can share experiences and offer support to these lads show them the value of fitness, sport , trades, travel adventure, out in nature , mechanics , challenging yourself keep putting one foot in front of the other lads
Good point. I think a lot of young fellas who get into trouble lack positive male role models. This is especially important during puberty and adolescence when our hormones are all over the place and you're trying to make that leap from being a kid to become a man and all that comes with it. One of my mates told me his dad walked out when he was 12 and it had a terrible effect on him and then a neighbor who was running a local boxing club got him into boxing. It allowed him to channel his anger in a positive way and thought him discipline etc. The boxing coach also helped him emotionally. My mate is now in his 40s and he's doing exactly the same thing in the same club. He went on to marry an amazing girl and they have 3 amazing kids.
I can confirm as a 20 year old lad who grew up in a deprived rural area - education was all that saved me; Watched all the lads (nearly without exception - I was the only male that went to third level from my school that year) I used to play football with, hang around with fell into chronic dependence on alcohol & drugs. University students are no saints here either but those there by their own volition generally are doing it due to herd mentality; not the escapism the lads I know have fallen into; think the key is making education more practical and in different areas and actually worth something is key. Was lucky to be a prodigy with textbook learning but that suits very few; we need proper, fit for purpose education in the trades, personal training, culinary arts etc that will encourage young lads to stay in the system and have something to work towards early on ; a definite lack of male role models is there but I think due to the uniqueness of this generation coming up the key is in keeping people in school / keeping them around positive influences there and making them want to be there in order to not fall into these cynical patterns.
Totally agree tats wat we 💯 especially meself on drugs the last 20 years plus we need to do something like tat great idea respect m8

What can I say but wow ... another amazing podcast such rawness and humanity from Cian.... Timmy’s insight into life is unreal and James you should be on TV so in tune with the guests and not a pause for breath when anything stumbles .... I’ve been blessed to have been to Everest Base Camp and the most incredible life changing trek you will ever do .... it’s absolutely incredible yet no day is harder than a day on Corran Tuathail .... Highly recommend to everyone.....

Great video again , Mick Finn is a legend , great fella and always willing to help people out. As genuine as they come. Plus he is a Spurs fan , I am running out of superlatives to describe the man.
I normally don't watch this podcast. But these lads, Hit the nail on the head. Watched the programme daveys toughest team. Cian and the other lads are credit to each other. I have seen first hand. The affects both mental illness and drugs have on families. I worked as a volunteer with kids who had issues like these. The one thing they all wanted was for someone to listen to them. The government are not helping the youth of today enough
im just gonna be honest im brought to tears here again watchin ye lads its truly unreal work yer doin i appreciate it a lot im sure now as much as anytime in history people need to be given hope as well with this fuckin lockdown bullshit

What a brilliant listen. I couldn't turn it off. Young people like Cian sharing their stories is so important. I knew so many kids like him growing up and so many times they were completely written off. This podcast is crucial for letting people tell their stories and inspiring others. Another great podcast lads very raw, Cian done a great job could see that was nerves but ye are such great lads ye where able help him thru it. As a fellow rebel i love pod cast it has opened my eyes to how bad cork got for addiction.

Open and honest! Davy's programme will inspire so many to turn their lives around thanks to Cian and the lads. Our government should fund programmes like this to give a chance to hose less fortunate in life. all people need is a chance and somebody to listen to them! the millions wasted on methadone programmes could be chanelled in to more beneficial programmes with chance of full recovery!!

Another Fantastic podcast lads ye are making a huge difference to young peoples lives everywhere well done Cian I wish you every success I’ve no doubt you will be.
Growing up in Cork in the 70s 80s 90s man what a violent place, I had to move country to see not everywhere is like that. I remember if I made eye contact with any other fellas walking past it was, what you looking aaaaaaaa? Have ya got a problem? Lol Mad house, fought my way through teenage years, drugs and everything that goes with it. No heroin back then thankfully as there was a concerted effort to keep it out by even the hash dealers cos they saw what happened in Dublin. But sadly the 90s ended all that. After not living in Ireland now for 26 years it's mad to listen to people with cork accents talking about so much of the shit I went through back then, very cathartic .Henry's was a blast all the same but sure all good fun ends in tears. No one could have told me that drugs are a dead end where you have to walk all the way back so you can start again, it's a long walk, but I'm happy every day to have survived the madness. Boring old man now walking my dog but memories of Henry's still makes me smile . Here's to all the survivers of that mad house. Nice one lads, delighted to have found your podcast which is such an anomaly, emotionally intelligent corkmen, who'd believe it lol.
I grew up in Cork the same time as you but had none of the problems you had. The fact I was an outsider saved my bacon. I used to never go in town on nights out or anything like that. No interest in drink or fags or anything like that. All I ever wanted was driving. I had a car when I was 13 that I bought for £3 and built an engine for it on the street where I lived. I had a job driving a lorry on the docks when I was 15 while my parents thought I was at school. This might be hard to believe but you could actually do stuff like that in the early 70s. I was driving for this fella in Ballyphane who used to employ young fellas cause they were cheap. Twas great craic but of coarse eventually it all came on top. It made me a great worker and well able to look after myself. I had myself well straightened out by the time I was about 19 and got a job driving on the continent and had a great few years at that. Made the stupid mistake of getting married in 1980 and that was the end of the good times for me. Same time frame but completely different life to yours. Always be your own man and it'll see you through. Bad company is bad news.

What a brilliant podcast
No such thing as a bad child ...only the upbringing can make a child angry ...
I disagree, some kids have had the best upbringing possible and yet still didn’t turn out the best. But a lot of the cases I’m referring to boil down to that individuals attitude and personality. But yes you are right in a way because primarily it’s down to how they are brought up.
@@paddyceyle966 in my opinion and it is only my opinion if every child was brought up with absolute kindness and caring ...we wouldn't have any problems. ..but it seems that's impossible. ..
