  • Lake Placid, New York, nestled in the heart of the Adirondacks, has welcomed thousands of hungry athletes to its hallowed hills. They arrive at the tiny, yet mighty village prepared for battle; only a select few warriors leave with accolades, but they all return home with the same scars that say, “I survived Lake Placid.”
Rodger Krause has those scars, among other, more visible ones. That’s because the 60-year-old accountant from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania shouldn’t have been in the triathlon with notoriously tricky elevations, let alone beaten almost 300 able-bodied competitors as the only adaptive athlete brave enough to enter the fray.
