interestingly Jordan Peele shared that the original ending for Get Out had Chris get arrested and jailed (it was actually filmed but scrapped) which even more closely correlates to the story of Othello
Dang. Why couldn't I have been this invested in Othello 20 years ago 😂?? I *LOVE* Get Out (not that I want to ever SEE it again) and I'm so excited for your analysis 🥰!!
Wow! Personally, I think Iago and Desdemona's characters were /switched/, rather than paralleled in Get Out, but you made it work with your organized, thoughtful analysis. Definitely worth the A 👍🏾💕 Do you know about Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? From my understanding, Peele made a modern (appropriately horrific) update to that Classic commentary about Racism in America™. Othello feels more like a commentary about intersectionality, to me. Crazy that all they had to do was listen to women, but Othello's (VERY VALID) insecurities** got in the way! ** by the time Othello had the chance to just ASK CASIO about the letter, he was too convinced everyone was against him. Po lil' tink tink 🤧
@@Setsunako6587 interesting that is a cool way to look at it, you can definitely argue that desdemona, rod, iago, and rose’s characters mirror each other in multiple ways throughout both performances. Also thank you the semesters almost over so we will see 🤞 I have not seen it but I’ll definitely put it on my list of things to watch. But I agree every time I revisit Othello the fact that a lot of his woes could have been solved by communication always gets me.
@@jadiebooone of my favorite posts is about how characters in tragedies are in the wrong play/genre because the one they’re in takes advantage of their flaw. Swap Hamlet and Othello and neither story ends with quite so much death because Hamlet would go brain to brain with Iago, and Othello would take out Claudius no hesitation.
I absolutely loved this analysis. I haven't actually watched Get Out since it was labeled as horror and don't watch horror bc I'm a scary cat, but I'm might give it a watch. Othello is such an interesting play to me and this was such a great video and I hope your professor gives you an A.
@@mariachapero thank you so much I’m glad you enjoyed it😊😊and I definitely agree, out of all the Shakespeare I’ve had to absorb over the last 4 years Othello has been the most interesting to me too and all of Jordan Peele’s films 😂 also I got an A on my presentation but we’re waiting on the essay🤞🤞🤞
I believe in you, too! Peele balances the horror and comedy very well (see also: Nope, but NOT Us, lol. That one was TOO scary!). Get Out is basically a psychological thriller version of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner. Definitely watch it with another person of color, if you can 👍🏾
@Setsunako6587 Ohhh okay thank you!! Yeah, I do enjoy thriller and it's good to know that there is some comedy to balance the horror. I'll definitely give it a watch and Nope as well.

@ that’s sounds quite interesting 😊I’ve never read Hamlet but I might need to now to see the character dynamics you mentioned🤎
