I would say underappreciated or unknown. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about this film so I don't think underrated is the right term.

I just love how Black dynamite stands flabbergasted at what he heard and to the question "how did you get in" he is still confused with a "you're not gonna do another take on that one?!" look on his face when answering "I walked in". There's so many layers to each little gag in the whole film!

I just noticed at 2:10 he drops his nunchucks and then someone throws them back, and he keeps going as if it was nothing. This movie is full of little bullshit flubs like that and it's wonderful. My favorite will always be the boom mic dipping down into the shot, followed only by the change in extras when Bullhorn slaps one of them.
They even keep the whooshing of the wind to make it seem he just threw them like a boomerang so it can come back.
The best to me has always been his reaction when the militants are saying their directions out loud. He's so confused

That was the joke. He's supposed to be an undercover drug dealer from the hood but sounds like a stage actor.
It was a reference to several well known blaxploitation actors who had started out as Shakespeare actors like William Marshall (Blacula).

I love that the actors aren’t even acting, the reactions are all genuine and it doesn’t even feel like they’ve read the script.
They’re deliberately acting like that. That’s part of the joke as a 70’s blacksploitation spoof. Pretty much all the “slip-ups” and amateurish acting is intentional

I don’t think most people appreciate the amount of thought and detail that went into this movie. It takes real skill on everyone’s part to make a movie intentionally bad as a reference to movies that were actually bad, but not be a bad movie.

Black Dynamite really hits the spot for Blaxplotiin flicks of the 60's-70's. It goes all the the way to the top. The tippity top.
It's more of an homage to Rudy Ray Moore movies. The way Black Dynamite is always rhyming when he can, the random kung-fu, and the meandering plot is pretty much how every RRM film proceeds.

It is one of the very few movies that made me belly-laugh for the entire duration. Being a fan of blaxploitation cinema certainly helps, but even without that factor the writing and comedic timing on screen is just perfect.

There are so many things to love about this movie that it's hard to talk about just one thing but they just nailed the timing so hard.
It doesn't have those awful things that make modern comedies suck. I don't don't even know what to call it but I hate the "pause the music for a comedic delivery" thing that movies these days do. I absolutely LOVE the fact that the comedy lines in Black Dynamite are woven into the flow of the situation where it doesn't feel like it's slapping you on the face going "HERES A JOKE LAUGH NOW PLEASE"
Dunno if that made sense but it's just so refreshing in a modern comedy (basically dead genre unfortunately)

Despite black dynamite sleeping around being a running gag and the fact that he would be a terrible father, he legitimately cares about the safety and wellbeing of children so they don't follow in his footsteps.
Yeah that gets played out more in the cartoon with him running a WHOREphanage (brothel/orphanage) Honeybee is kinda like the Mama-san that runs stuff day to day but BD is the real pimp running everything.

I was in a psych ward where the actor for Black Dynamite now works as a tech supervisor. He would do kung fu in the halls and freak out all the schizos. We had long talks about manifestation, astrology, music and this movie. He also MADE the whole upstairs psych unit watch it or Spawn twice a week on his shift. Really awesome and crazy guy irl.
Also that's his real voice. He said jive ass turkey at least 5 times in my 4 weeks there.
