The instructors reaction in the background when Dave said it was a bigger deal than soloing the Harvard was awesome! Loved that. So many great quotes. "Giddy", "Sufficiently puckered", "now it's real", "stupidly tight", "Right apprehension"... Damn that boy is a walking quote machine.
Luke's reaction when Dave said "It might be cooler than the first solo in the Harvard, honestly..."!! So Awesome!! Really shows how passionate and great of an instructor Luke is. Way to go Dave, Congratulations!
I'd once met the good folks from Southeast Aero (the USA Extra distributor) in St. Augustine, FL while at Sun 'n Fun and they'd offered me a free ride should I come up to their field after Sun 'n Fun. That was by far the most expensive free ride I'd ever experienced! The Extra 300L must be one of the world's best flying aircraft, doing exactly what you ask of it. It really makes the pilot look good. If you're a pilot and have the opportunity to fly one, DO IT! I'd sold mine about 15 years ago, and hardly a day goes by that I don't sincerely miss it. BTW, it's likely the easiest landing tail dragger that has ever been built, albeit with a 55-60 knot stall speed. After watching this video, well damn, I want my Extra back.
No too long ago, you shared your flights in C-FFKO, Piper Super Cub. The Super Cub was and still is my favorite plane. It is amazing to now see all of the planes that you have mastered. Keep sharing your progress with us. Eagerly looking forward to more work on the RV14. Thanks.
I don't often give videos a thumb up. It really has to stand out from the other work of that creator, but this is such a gem. So I gave it a thumbs up! P.S. Congratulations Dave!
Really enjoyed this. Dave is a pro on so many levels. Highly skilled; great judgment; justifiably confident without being arrogant... with just a touch of giddy idiot to balance everything out. I was looking forward to hearing his self-commentary during this and he did not disappoint. If I ever get down the road far enough to solo the Chippy, his fist bump will mean as much as the solo flight.
What a lucky guy and a very accomplished pilot, he made it look so easy like he's been doing it for a long time. Great job Dave, I can't wait till we see you in it Steve.
Everything about this video and series is amazing. All involved seem to be amazing individuals in their own rights. I gotta say I was almost misty eyed watching Dave landing solo for the first time and his comments afterwards were perfect! The extra is way different than a Cessna, but the solo experience is the same for every “first time” solo. Steve, you are an amazing story teller and I can’t wait for the next installment in this series. Thank you sir!
First of all, THANK YOU for the stellar videos, and allowing us to be present on your journey of fun!! Congrats to Dave for a bucket list flight!!! Great job!!!
" It is the possibilities of dreams coming true that makes life interesting". I read that on the Alchemist it sure is fitting on this video. Just Awesome the extra 300 is also my favorite. May everyone's Dream or two come to fruition- Safe travels and may you have the time of your life.
Wow! So many positive and heartfelt comments. I'm always a little apprehensive about sharing myself to this extent with the "world", but I gotta say, I'm really feeling the love in the comment section on this one. Thanks guys!
They call it an Extra 300 because you need an Extra $300K to buy one! Congrats on the solo Dave. Kinda weird performing acro solo in a new plane for the first time, isn't it? An, "okay, here we go" moment.
CONGRATULATIONS, Dave!!! 👍🍻Friggin AWESOME!!! And you topped it off with a greaser landing! SWEEEEET! I can only imagine what that must've felt like. That is one hot rod of an aircraft, no doubt about it! Can't even see the wings flex! Thanks for sharing all of this, Steve - what a great video series! Can't wait to see Hannah's turn at the helm. 😎
As an Extra 300L owner, I enjoyed this video series. But please don't open the canopy with the engine running, and don't get out of or into the airplane with prop turning. I know that hot starts can be a pain, but that wing is slippery. And that big canopy is designed to come off easily, especially when there's wind blowing over it. (BruceAirFlying)
Haven’t been able to fly for a few weeks do the the winter weather here in Oklahoma, this video made me want to get back into the air so bad. Congrats to Dave!
The conditions are there in WA, perfect weather and very favourable almost all year long. Just go to Jandakot and book a flight. I went solo myself therebmany years ago
Quick hint.. When you get up to do acro.. Load the airplane up to about 2 or 2.5 G, and while holding the G, ratchet the belts down.. It compresses you into the seat.. You'll feel a lot better that way.
I've had an hour in an Extra 200 and that was fantastic. So responsive, but I should have had my straps racheted down more when inverted. A beautiful aeroplane and I hope to fly one again after UK lockdown. Thanks Dave for bringing these great flying videos to us. So when do you fly the Spitfire?
Wow how cool, I own 2 extra 300 RC birds on top of many other aerobatic models including Edge 540s Katanas, for me just to fly a real plane is a dream that I hope 1 day to fulfill, congratulations nice flight.
Can we appreciate Dave's commentary. Just the sweetspot between serious business and endless fun.
Dave is the real deal! It was such a pleasure flying with him and am crossing my fingers that I’ll get some Harvard time with him soon !! 😃
Oh it's gonna happen buddy! This year for sure!
Dave's voice was just dripping with excitement the whole video. Nicely done!
Luke's reaction when Dave said "It might be cooler than the first solo in the Harvard, honestly..."!! So Awesome!! Really shows how passionate and great of an instructor Luke is. Way to go Dave, Congratulations!
Thanks for pointing that out, I would've missed it otherwise! Very nice indeed.
Thanks for noticing that ! 😄 and for the kind comments !
@@LukePennerAerobatics CPL/ATPL student here in MedHat. Looking forward to flying with you some day soon, Luke!! 👍🏼
Dave didn't sound like a "giddy idiot" at all! He sounded exactly like we all would have and that's awesome!

"My buttcheeks are sufficiently puckered for this"... LOL! Well done!
Luke and Dave are both great guys. Dave deserved this...so glad he had a blast. Great pilot.
I have truly enjoyed this series - great content!
Awesome, thank you!
Sometimes you gotta do a roll for no reason... sounds like Dave's ready to help break in the RV-14!
No too long ago, you shared your flights in C-FFKO, Piper Super Cub. The Super Cub was and still is my favorite plane. It is amazing to now see all of the planes that you have mastered. Keep sharing your progress with us. Eagerly looking forward to more work on the RV14. Thanks.
Congrats on that great solo flight. Every rc field has an Extra 300 great to see it for real.
7:49 "well now it's real." Oh I know that feeling! Great job Dave!!!
I don't often give videos a thumb up. It really has to stand out from the other work of that creator, but this is such a gem. So I gave it a thumbs up!
P.S. Congratulations Dave!
Dave is a great presenter. It's beyond impressive how great of a commentary he can give while soloing a new plane.
"Well, it's real now"
Yeah - I was impressed with what Dave was able to pull off here.
Really enjoyed this. Dave is a pro on so many levels. Highly skilled; great judgment; justifiably confident without being arrogant... with just a touch of giddy idiot to balance everything out. I was looking forward to hearing his self-commentary during this and he did not disappoint. Well said my friend. Well said
lol! Thanks Martin. You gotta get that US to CAN paper license conversion first!
@@thehoeser I gotta do a LOT of things first... lol... the license is on the list, for sure.
I grinned all the way through this video. Well done Dave!
Next up...the Bede BD-5J Microjet. Talk about a low pass. Great job with the 300...you had just enough apprehension to keep yourself safe.
What a lucky guy and a very accomplished pilot, he made it look so easy like he's been doing it for a long time. Great job Dave, I can't wait till we see you in it Steve.
Great video, and showing the nervous dad watch his baby take off and land was a great shot.
Thank you,
Take care,
Be safe.
Not sure how you can top that video guys. So cool!! What's next Dave, a P51??
You kid... but... stay tuned? ;P

First of all, THANK YOU for the stellar videos, and allowing us to be present on your journey of fun!! Congrats to Dave for a bucket list flight!!! Great job!!!
Awesome video, I just did the first solo of my pilot career today in a DA20
That is awesome!
Congrats!
I loved flying the DA20 back when they first came out - it was my first bubble canopy / stick set up (instead of a door and a yoke) in power flying!
Handled that like a seasoned Pro! Commentary was hysterical!!
Dave is a real aviator!!!
I absolutely felt the fun he had just from watching this.
Had a smile on my face throughout the whole video!!!🤙🏼
Man, watching these past few videos have really gotten me to make a new goal in my life of aviation. Soloing an extra 300. New goal! 🤙🛩
" It is the possibilities of dreams coming true that makes life interesting". I read that on the Alchemist it sure is fitting on this video. Just Awesome the extra 300 is also my favorite. May everyone's Dream or two come to fruition- Safe travels and may you have the time of your life.
Glad this one resonated with you.
Loving this multipart series, Steve. Great work to everyone involved!
Awesome thanks! I think I’ll keep it going it finish out the series with the next two episodes before I head back to other content
Wow! So many positive and heartfelt comments. I'm always a little apprehensive about sharing myself to this extent with the "world", but I gotta say, I'm really feeling the love in the comment section on this one. Thanks guys!
I freaking loved this video. Watching him solo was something else!
They call it an Extra 300 because you need an Extra $300K to buy one! Congrats on the solo Dave. Kinda weird performing acro solo in a new plane for the first time, isn't it? An, "okay, here we go" moment.
Dave’s new Catchphrase “now it’s real”
Kudos to Dave for acknowledging that he was pushing himself right up to the point of making himself nauseous.
missed opportunity to point an arrow at the smokestack after Dave´s low pass saying "NOT DAVE" otherwise GREAT VIDEO!
Wow that was a pure joy to watch Steve, thank you for putting together such an amazing video.
That was fantastic... really really well done! The excitement was contagious.
We need moar of Dave!! He stole the show in this series. Glad your channel made us discover this guy
Congrats Dave. Great patter as you fly. Sharing the Aviation love well done Steve.
Time to find an Extra to solo!
Fantastic job! Congratulations Dave!
RAD! Dave seems like such a great guy. Well deserved.
Everything just recall me of my first solo experience. Cool video, keep up and thank you !!
So happy for Dave -- thanks for sharing the experience!
Hannah is next! And her reaction will not disappoint. :)
@@FlightChops - Awesome! 👍👍😎
If I ever find myself in Manitoba, now I know what I have to do!!!
Great video with great pilots! Can’t wait to see Hannah’s flight!
"now it's real"....said the exact same thing on my first solo! Good times!
I saw this Extra at an IAC competition in Bay City Michigan in 2019! I have two RC Extra 300s. Great content, Thanks!
Thank you for all you do for the pilot community
So darn cool! I have a new addition to my bucket list 😄
I think we’re all proud of Dave. 🙂 Fantastic content. Thank you for sharing! I would love to fly an Extra some day!
Great job Dave! Thanks for the vid guys.
The thing I like best is, well, everything. Thank you so much for outstanding content.
Very nice. Thanks
dreams come true
Congrats, and well done one the solo.
Well done! Excellent series FC.👍🏽
Who would "thumbs down" this vid? GREAT CONTENT CHOPS!
Dave is on another level 🙌🙌🙌. I am watching this series for a third time and damn I love it❤❤❤
Agreed - he’s inspiring for sure.
Awesome stuff! 🤙🏻 Reminds me of my first solo; I was talking to myself constantly... 😋 So cool to see him enjoy himself so much!
Don't film Dave anymore... he's so good he will steal your channel lol jk great video Thoroughly enjoyed every second
Nice one. You all guys are very good pilots. Luke in some shots resembles ... Tom Cruise in Top Gun :)
I had a dream that flightchops and smarter every day made a video together
Very very nice. ....Well done ...... :-)
Super awesome! And congrats u guys!
Such an awesome episode! Ahhh!
I thoroughly enjoyed that! Cheers from Alberta!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Hell yeah, Dave! Nice job!
Great job! I have really enjoyed these videos and stories. Thank you.
Thanks for watching - this was a fun series to produce
Airplanes and the dino museum??? Y'all seem like a blast to hang out with.
Absolute fantastic, BestVideo Ever!!

Thanks for respectfully sharing that feedback.
Apparently the 'right apprehension' includes inverted stalls. hahaha
Love your videos :)
I have used that before. "Yep. I feel the perfect amount of nervous. Lets do it"
Very Cool!
Good stuff. Seem like good dudes and it’s fun to see.
Nice flight, Congrats!
Haven’t been able to fly for a few weeks do the the winter weather here in Oklahoma, this video made me want to get back into the air so bad. Congrats to Dave!
Just wanted you to know, this didnt come to my sub box. Got your email, though, and came straight here!
Thanks so much for having signed up for the mailer. RUclips is officially not helping small creators reach their subs anymore.
Awesome
Your videos always make me so jealous... wish I could do this much flying here in Western Australia
The conditions are there in WA, perfect weather and very favourable almost all year long. Just go to Jandakot and book a flight. I went solo myself therebmany years ago
Awesome new video thanks!!!!
"Tower, requesting a flyby....."
That’s Dave’s classic move :)
Negative Ghost Rider the pattern is full
Quick hint.. When you get up to do acro.. Load the airplane up to about 2 or 2.5 G, and while holding the G, ratchet the belts down.. It compresses you into the seat.. You'll feel a lot better that way.
I've had an hour in an Extra 200 and that was fantastic. So responsive, but I should have had my straps racheted down more when inverted. A beautiful aeroplane and I hope to fly one again after UK lockdown. Thanks Dave for bringing these great flying videos to us. So when do you fly the Spitfire?
Your content is inspirational!!! I got a ride in a extra 300 from our mutual friend elliot :)
Very nice! This makes me want to make more flying videos, I dream of giving experiences like this to people
Congrats... guess they don't cut the shirt on these solos
I feel it when he talks about how tight the harness is. And no matter HOW tight you get it, it still won't hold you properly when inverted. :D
Man! Now I wanna go up in an extra 300 BAD!!! 😎
I know, right? What a performer that thing is!!
If you have the opportunity to do so, then do it! But be careful; you'll want one.
Excellent

Loving this series... and anybody else out there mistake Luke for Tom Cruise? 😂😎
super cool 😎🤙
This was really enjoyable :)
What was the black smoke at 15:00?
Not one aspect of this series, and do mean everything, was less than very cool and uplifting. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
