For me NingNing is more mismanaged as not only a main vocal but as a vocalist overall. Yes, she gets a fair amount of lines, but aside from the fact her main strength is her lower register and she's often belting in their songs (which isn't that big of an issue) she rarely gets to sing live
honestly i feel like aespa as a whole are vocally very mismanaged. winter's 5th octave belts are so shrill and piercing but she keeps getting all of them. ningning basically never gets to show off her lower register. kariselle are both pretty good vocalists too and yet they rarely ever get to sing. especially giselle - i know someone who went looking for giselle's singing materials to figure out how good her technique is and giselle has like... nothing. and aespa has only gotten to sing live like once or twice so far. i don't understand why you would have a group that's vocally as strong as aespa and never let them sing live??? even if it's too hard to do live singing with their choreography (which, fair) if i were on their management team, i'd be going out of my way to create extra opportunities for them to sing live. aespa don't even get the recording behind videos in the studio like other sm groups like nct and red velvet do. it's literally a bad marketing strategy to not take advantage of your 4 idols' singing skills.
It’s bc she’s Chinese. Sm is literally famous for how badly they treat their Chinese members. It has nothing to do with ability or technique bc if it was, Ningning is definitely better then winter who literally screeches all her high notes. SM mistreats her cause she is chinese

However the other Red Velvet members are also extremely talented and Seulgi could have been a main vocal in other groups even Joy could in many 4th gen groups. Even in Got the beat where Winter, Taeyeon and Boa are we still have main vocal Wendy.
The Liz situation is so confusing. It's kinda obvious that something happened behind-the-scenes. Not only her lines decreased, she became more quiet in their content and her stage presence faltered as well. She's only the only 'proficient' singer Ive got, with Yujin quite far away from her skills-wise. She got quite a lot of attention for her Ive x Lauv video of After Like (I really recommend it!) and tons of praise on social media, I hope Starship will do something about it because it's laughable. I get why Winter gets the belts as NingNing doesn't seem to have that much confidence in her upper register while Winter just goes for it but I agree that she also gets the most "showy" lines anyways, I still wouldn't call Ninging mistreated, I hope they will find a better balance though as they are both really good vocalists! I'm surprised you didn't mention Jihyo vs Nayeon discourse. I agree with your points although some probably won't as Nayeon is the one who usually gets the most lines. Nayeon is the 'voice' of Twice, someone who producers/ general audience think suits Twice sound/image the most. Jihyo always gets good amount of lines, some challening ones, chorus/bridges so I wouldn't call her mistreated as well.
If you watch their festival performances, Liz actually shine and looks fine... But everytime they performed for tv she seems reverse to shy and quiet. Her collab with Yuqi and Yoon looks so awkward.

Being primarily a girl group stan I hear a lot of different main vocalists this list is on the nose with treatment of them and how the producers/ company showcase them it’s disheartening for Liz when she’s the one brings so much life with her vocals imo so with her lack of showtime and time for herself I hope things change as for Wendy it’s not shocking with how she’s number one on this list

I do agree on Miyeon :" I fall in love with her voice, especially from KDA/Popstar (League of Legend)! In that song, her voice shine without overshadow other singers and whenever I see Ahri, I always remember Miyeon sung the song. She makes the character much more real and live! Her part never failed to make me astonished by her voice. That's why I follow G-ILDE, but sadly she got less line, or line without any punch line that dull out the her voice. I also notice that she got less screen time too, like switch back-and-forth to zoom out her in many of videos. I hope that she get more chances that she deserve because she is excellent singer 😢
I agree with what you said, especially about Miyeon. I'm only a casual kpop listener but (g)i-dle have been the group I gravitate towards the most for a while. Miyeon got great moments in Latata but the last comeback they had where she shined was Dumdi Dumdi imho. Meanwhile Minnie, the other main vocalist, gets the more demanding parts and also the most memorable. Even Yuqi has gotten some main-vocalist worthy moments more recently. I just hope Miyeon will stop being pushed aside because I absolutely adore her voice and I know she has a lot to bring to the group.
She's not being pushed aside her voice is really beautiful and she gets alot of lines in the b sides and also her solo which is out there but as Minnie voice is very experimental they try to use it alot to see what else she can do with it and because yuqi voice is very deep they try to make that shine as well not to mention soyeon unique voice I guess compared to the other three miyeon voice is just kinda normal in kpop and honestly that's not a bad thing

Dreamcatcher have all rounders. Yoohyeon have been improving a lot lately and sua being a sub vocalist is shocking considering how powerful her vocal is. Jiu showed she can sing powerful in their last single "reason" even though she usually goes with the soft vocals. Handong has that elegant voice. She is getting more confident after "Youth With You" and more lines on songs. Gahyeon has improved as well. The main rapper dami can sing too. With all these members you won't have a problem recognizing the main vocalist. Siyeon is a powerhouse. Her voice fits the rock concept so well. (Plus: she was a vocalist in a rock band in high school) DC company treat them really well compared to other groups.
Yes, she is more mistreated by her company Lack screen time, lack 'center time' when it's come to her part, lack promotion, lack singing gigs before 2021, not letting her do collab when a lot of people want to colab with her and the most important thing ssw2 not getting green light 😔
After the release of "Stamped on it" seeing that Wendy didn't have as much center but balanced with screen time and lines, I guess the problem is the team in charge of RV.

But I think the RV team has now realized wendy's rising popularity (too late tho). Literally agree with everything you said especially about Miyeon and NingNing. Everytime a person says that Miyeon isn't getting what she deserves in the group or something like that these Stans literally come at you claiming that "she got alot of lines in Dumdi Dumdi!!” Like srsly is has been ages to that, just think if it were Minnie or Yuqi in her position, by now people would've been on Soyeon's throat saying how unfair she is. This just highlights the double standards of the fandom. And honestly it's more about getting memorable parts as a main vocalist rather than singing the whole song...like at least give her a high note or something! jype producers doesn't know how to work with lia's tone, she has the better tecnique and range, yet the best moments of her voice is when she's singing by herself doing covers on lives or on the lee mujin service. Cheshire for me proved that she is the best in itzy, yeji and chaeryeong sang the chorus too but lia's version is so more stable and with better breath control, also in loco if you listen carefully there a lot of performances where yeji does not sing her full part of the chorus because of her breath while lia sings her entire part in the loco chorus even with them dancing and you can see she has better control.
I think whoever writes Itzy songs doesn’t know how to actually use talented members. The raps are so bad that people actually think Ryujin can’t rap. Hopefully future songs show off the members abilities other than dancing.

I think that people don’t really understand what SM is doing with Ningning. Her mistreatment goes so much deaper than just getting less lines. And some of you can say that Winter has better vocals, but that’s just not true. Ningning has way better vocal technique and skill she just isn’t given the opportunity to show it and that is bc of one of SM’s biggest issues since day one. She is Chinese SM ALWAYS mistreats their Chinese idols. Literally look at all of the exo, and fx Chinese members. Ningning is another in the long line of Chinese idols that SM adds so that they get sales in China and then treat them like shit. SM doesn’t give a shit about Ningning (or giselle) after aespa. The entire group is so obviously set up for winter and karina and it’s honestly sad, especially when you see how talented Ningning is and how much passion she has for being a star. She’s literally been doing this since she was 5, competing in Chinese talent shows and seeing SM waste that is sad

Wendy is actually a better rapper (flow-wise) than Irene, but it wouldn't be fair in line distribution if she holds 2 main positions. Wendy does take over for Irene's rap lines whenever Irene is absent. Also Wendy auditioned for YG (but got rejected) and her rap style is more YG than SM, which is more swaggy, so this is why some people think she's a better rapper cause of the natural swag
If you dissect their dance technique too, Wendy is a better idol dancer than Irene. So honestly she could be part of the dance, rap, and vocal line if they were going off of current skills.
Siyeon voice suit Dreamcatcher Rock & EDM side so well, because she have that raspy voice that a lot of female Rock vocalist have...while Yoohyeon's voice suit their Poppish side especially R&B and Ballad. Yes, Yoohyeon can hit the high note like Siyeon..but I prefer Yoohyeon focus on her Pop side coz it suit her more...
It's sad seeing Liz being treated like this, although I think it's a bit too early to judge, they only had 2 comebacks. Miyeon has one of my favorite voices in kpop and it's sad to see how Soyeon, although an amazing producer, doesn't really know what to do with her voice, or even Yuqi's voice for that matter. She just keeps giving them the same lines and let's them trade off in the pre-chorus. With Lia, I think she is being treated as fairly as she can. Her voice just doesn't fit Itzy's sound...And being a main vocal means she can't be given too many specially made for her parts since she would need to share them with with Yeji or Chae at some point. Ningning is doing fine, her and Winter have very similar skill-sets and deliveries so it's natural they are both going to get a lot of lines. It just feels more visible cause they are in a 4 member group but I don't think a 7 or so second difference is a big deal. The producers seem to like Winter on the high notes more which is their choise. Jihyo is fine, girl be singing half the song by herself. Rose and Siyeon are also fine. Wendy, here's a hot take, I never thought that she suited RV's music. Not one bit. It's too quirky, too k-pop-ish. Her voice sounds too western, too 'diva-like' for that kind of sound. Line-wise though, yeah she is being treated great.
the thing with wendy is she can play with her vocal tones a lot. her natural belting voice without any distortion fits the typical western pop ballad/rnb style. but she can play with her voice so much which makes her very versatile. for the most part, their title tracks don’t fit the typical artistic route you would expect from her, but on their rnb tracks, and most bsides, it’s very much showcased.

I feel like one thing winter has over the other members is how stable she is. She rarely misses in their few live performances, she sounds exactly like the studio version. But I really wished she had more adlibs or lower notes than high notes because her voice really shines on those little parts
Yes, Wendy deserves all the love. Yes, RV’s producers are one of the best. But honestly, i think they’re comfy on putting her everywhere, at any level, because she also has the SUPPORT of her vocal line, who are incredible AND distinctive. AND the rap line covering the sub vocals like it’s nothing. God i love Red Velvet 😆🤣. But it’s not just them, the ones you rated quite highly are supported by their team members vocally like this too.

Sad that Liz got the most mistreatment compare to others in the list. Miyeon and Lia understandable as their group concept is not 100% suits with their vocals, both suit ballad songs more. Same with Jihyo.
Miyeon needs more fcking lines. She has my favorite voice of the group, and my bias. Honestly, her parts in Nxde and Tomboy just slay the house down. I want more lines for Jihyo, bc she’s a god. Rosé’s voice in Hard to Love is just too good. My favorite voice in ITZY is Yeji, but Lia is a very close second. Her lower register is just perfect. Wendy is another god with Jihyo.
I think it's ridiculous to say that there's no favoritism on IVE when their best vocalist by far gets progressively less lines each comeback (no hate to the other members, it's the company's fault).
Starship has been mistreating all of IVE , yes even Wonyoung. Starship overworking and starving Wonyoung is setting her up for failure and bullying . Liz is the best vocalist , looks pretty (though she is ugly for Koreans) dances well and has good stage presence . She got that ' It girl ' factor and can be soloist if trained even more.

3:28 I feel like this has less to do with Soyeon and co not knowing what to do with Miyeon and more to do with Soyeon producing (G)I-DLE's songs using templates. She's got a formula and she's stickin' to it, ladies and gents!! And like, this isn't inherently a bad thing; lots of groups in K-Pop have a formula. The problem comes in when this formula isn't allowed to evolve or the group doesn't switch it up every once in a while. And that's what we're seeing with (G)I-DLE. I was hoping that TOMBOY was a sign that Soyeon was going to get more adventurous with (G)I-DLE's music, but nope!! It was just another formula.
Soyeon probably realized that the tomboy formula was working and she's definitely gonna be using it for a few comeback 🤷♀️ if thats what it takes to be more succesfull
The things that irritates me that IVE title tracks have many hard/difficult parts that they should give at Liz since that's her work there as a main vocalist but instead they give it to sub vocalist
i feel like because most gidle songs have limited singing parts in the chorus, miyeon gets gipped a lot. the only title tracks where she has a chorus are latata, dumdi dumdi and senorita. so clearly, seems like they only use her voice for bright/feminine concepts even though miyeon has such a rich voice. also, having both yuqi and miyeon, idle has some of the best developed lower register vocal lines but soyeon seems to typically only compose songs that are in /her (limited) vocal range. this is not a drag at soyeon at all, since i know she is idle's literal backbone and it's bc of her they even have the level of success they have now, and i'm also happy that the lack of lines hasn't affected miyeon's popularity, given that she's the most popular member domestically, but i really want gidle songs to have a bit more variety vocally so that miyeon and yuqi can have more chances to shine. having said that, i LOVE how miyeon's voice is used in minnie-produced songs! from blow your mind (aka giving miyeon her highest belt within gidle's discography), her chorus and prechorus parts in change, and the chorus and in sculpture especially!! the almost jazzy backing track suits her voice sound so well and adds luxury to the song.
can you please do a video on 2nd Gen kpop vocalist because I feel like they set the standard & foundation for today's vocalist...A great example is Park Bom from 2NE1, she has the most unique voice & still till today people recognize her voice, YG didn't want to sign her back then because he said it was a risk to debut her because there weren't many vocalists that sounded like her in market, but after Park Bom YG is now known for debuting vocalist with a unique distinct sound, please checkout 2nd Gen girl groups & analysis their vocals, especially 2NE1 & Park Bom. Sm is just pushing winter so much to the point of somehow neglecting the other members talent and capability. She got so much screentime sometimes i can't help it but to think that they just used aespa as stepping stone for her career. If sm will still heavily push winter this year aespa will be like ive. Like wonyoung and the group it will be like Winter and the group. All the members has their own strength they should use it properly like the main lines of aespa was always the second choice despite being the main rapper and vocalists, sm favoritism is always noticable to all of their groups.
I agree with pretty much all of what you've said here. The main things I would add personally (mostly as personal preferences) are that it is a bit more difficult for me to listen to Twice's more recent songs (even though I like the songs) with Nayeon having all/vast majority of the high notes instead of Jihyo or even Jeongyeon. It sounds very shrill most of the time and hurts my ears.. I just don't find it pleasing at all to listen to :/ Same with Winter vs. Ningning - I love Aespa's songs but Winter's high notes are so SHRILL it is physically uncomfortable for me to listen to T_T Her mid range is great to listen to but I wish they would give Ningning the high parts instead since she performs them so much better. Also would love to hear more of Ningnings lower registers in future songs. On that note - a main "defending" point I see a lot with lead vocal solo stans is "but the main vocal doesn't mean they have the most lines it means they have the most challenging parts" except that isn't really true for like half the main vocals you talked about in this video. Miyeon rarely ever lately gets the most/more challenging parts to sing in (G)-idle title songs and it is instead always given to Minnie (who, technically speaking, is a lead vocalist at best esp. when compared to (G)-idle's original sole main vocal Miyeon), who also gets the heavy majority of the lines as well as some of the most memorable parts even if they are not challenging. I think people also need to remember that while B-Sides are great, the vast majority of K-Pop fans and new listeners heavily favor listening to most title tracks, so the distribution and treatment in title tracks is extremely important as that is the first and most-often-heard style and abilities of said group. In Aespa title tracks, while for the most part distribution for them is pretty even, Winter definitely has collectively more challenging parts given to her than Ningning does, despite being the main vocal and performing said parts better due to her skill. Same for Jihyo - while she has regressed a bit since early Twice days, she is still Twice's best vocalist and while she does get her fair share of lines, Nayeon still gets more and also gets the most challenging parts as of late. And while she's not a main vocal, I can't even begin to describe the extreme disappointment I feel towards their under-utilization of Jeongyeon's vocals, which are better than Nayeon's (and in my opinion she has a more pleasing tone to my personally). Idk, one of the "arguments" I hate most from a lot of the youngsters into K-Pop in the current era is "well they give lines according to whose voice suits the songs better" but that's... not how that is supposed to work all the time. The whole point of making a good, solid group is having members with different strengths/weaknesses and PLAYING to said strengths of each member - not just completely or mostly forgetting about someone because "tHeYr'E nOT tHe 'VoIcE' oF tHe gRoUp!!" If a member's voice is that grossly unsuited to their group's songs/sound then perhaps the company should not have placed them in said group to live in the shadows. That's not a viable excuse imo, it's just poor mismanagement and defending said poor mismanagement. Rant over LOL
Thank GOD Cube and YG passed on Wendy when she auditioned for them. If YG had gotten her, she'd be getting one comeback per year if she was lucky and playing second-fiddle to a 3rd rate rapper. If Cube had gotten her, she wouldn't have made a cent and her group would be disbanded already.

On one of their vlogs, the members are free to choose which part suits them the best. Like Shuhua chose to have small parts. In Superlady, Soyeon actually assigned the intro to Minnie/Miyeon. But since no one could reach the belt flawlessly, Soyeon took part of it.
If I have to be onest (and Ningning is my ult bias, for me ONE OF the best vocalist of her gen) listening Next level, Dreams come true, Savage, and Girls...I really thought that Winter was the main and Ning2 the lead. Not because of the amount of lines, but the vocals themselves seems to be focused on Winter's voice. And yeas!! Let the gurls sing live please, since now there was only one actually live of girls and illusion, but is not enough!
truth be told, dreamcatcher has 7 incredible all-rounders and siyeon may not always be first place in line distributions, but she always manages to stand out with her magical and powerful voice, mainly because of the high notes and important lines she tends to get. it's practically impossible to imagine a dreamcatcher song without siyeon's voice and that consolidates her identity as a strong main vocalist in the k-pop industry
Im ngl the thing with Miyeon if i had to guess abt it i thimk shes leaveing more lines for the other members (mainly shuhua and yuqi) cuz like yes she is one fo the main vocalist but also I-DLE gets to pick their own lines but in I-DLEs early part of their career shu and yuqi purposely picked less lines bc yuqi was insecure abt her deep voice and shu was insecure abt her pronunciation altho yuqi did start picking more lines but shu didn t so i think Miyeons doing that to make sure shu's voice gets put into their songs enough also i do agree she should have more lines.
i feel like ningning has the best of both worlds. she has winter to rely on vocally (the entire group tbh since they're all really good) but being the best belter, having the highest/ widest range, and simply having a REALLY good low register i feel like her not getting as many lines or not belting as much could be them promoting the other girls more (mostly karina and winter since they won't let giselle belt fsr) but ningning has proven herself, i just hope they get to sing live more as said in the video!

sadly I think Liz has less lines and screen time because of her weight gain, maybe she lost confidence in herself and didn't want to be too centered in the title tracks or, most likely, the company is favoring the members with the "best visuals" to get the most lines so the most screen time and center position
I do remember the first time i listened to Redvelvet, it was a random listening party and "psycho" played and i was so mesmerized by the blonde girl aka wendy i remember thinking how could anyone have such a beautiful voice. Like you said the best thing about RV producers is that they know how to show off wendy's vocals not just for high notes, i bet people would be so surprised listening to wendy in psycho, butterflies, like water and alter ego.... These four songs give off 4 wendys, she's versatile and she shows it well. I still remember my amazement when i discovered that Jihyo is main vocalist of Twice not Nayeon or the fact that Nayeon is lead vocalist not main. Jihyo has a distinct voice in Twice since it's rich and has more mature sensual feel rather than the sweet tone that most Twice members have, Jihyo has been always the "belter" in Twice but only recently that her rich voice started to shine.. At least to me. Speaking of mains getting mistreated, It's not okay to give solo album to lead vocalist before the main vocalist... Just when i was about to comment about ITZY, i noticed that Lia and Yeji are the same as Jihyo and Nayeon... Huh.. Interesting.... You know even if G-idle line distribution got better, it still feels like Soyeon and friends, i've been a casual listener for so long but i listened to the nxde album obsessively and i noticed that the vocal direction of idle is so boring, it's always soyeon giving the spicy catchy part and the rest of the song is the same with members switching parts and no harmonies and no use of the members different tones, gidle's main strength vocally is that they actually sound different and very distinct from each others but they don't know how to take advantage of it. Just imagine how good X-Files and sculpture would've sounded if they used some harmonies. In my opinion, the entirety of the vocal line is mistreated/ underutilized not just the main vocalist. As for Aespa, while i do agree with the comments that NingNing mistreatment stems from the fact that she's the Chinese of the group. I mean both her and Giselle are the foreigners and they're the ones in the shadow, i also believe it's due to the fact that winter has a "dry" "metallic" "cool" feel to her voice that suits aespa's whole ae concept and songs unlike ningning who have a warm sensual feel to her voice. That's how they sound to my ears personally and tbh i prefer winter's vocals as i said she suits the concept better however ningning really ate "next level" that's the song that shows ningning the main vocalist.
Miyeon has one of, if not, the prettiest voices in 4th gen. Her tone is everything. It can easily add so much more color to any song, yet Cube and Soyeon somehow manage to wash it out completely in almost every GIDLE title tracks. Honestly, Shuhua has stood out more and that's just sad.
I know Soyeon writes gidle’s songs but she’s already getting all the rap lines I hope the singing lines can be given to the vocalists of the group. Anyways, still love them. With Itzy, it’s more of a dance/sp focused group and most of their songs does not showcase the group’s vocal abilities, especially Lia’s.

About NingNing one thing that should have been mentioned is that the gap in skills with her and winter is (with what we can judge so far) not big at all. And let's not forget aespa does not have "official positions" so i wouldn't be surprised that sm thinks of both as main singers. This situation actually reminds me a lot of the dynamics of taeyeon and jessica in their earlier years. The gap between them was (around debut time) also not that big and while taeyeon's technique was better she would struggle a lot with really high notes, anything above D5 was given to jessica, even if she was straining them she would handle them better.
aespa definitely had official positions when they debuted but it seems like it doesn‘t matter anymore to them and that‘s good. it doesn‘t limit them to anything. winter getting more than ningning makes sense, ningnings voice is so light and floaty, so many parts in aespas songs would lose impact if ning2 sang them instead of winter

They can't do that aespa just have 4 members the gap between the members is obvious, if they were like 6 or 7 members they can double the main positions. If the main vocal of aespa will be two then just make both Giselle and Karina the main rapper since karina got more lines than giselle.
Aespa has official positions and if you know stuff about vocal technique and ability (or read a lot of things about that from credible sources, if you don't) there is absolutely a decent gap between Ningning and Winter in terms of vocal ability. Winter is a very good vocalist but Ningning has much stronger development in all registers across the board, with a lower register almost on par with Wendy and Taeyeon. Winter strains a LOT in high notes (which is why you can hear that tight and shrill sound) and is best in her mid range, whereas Ningning has much more open and effortless high notes despite her lower register being arguably her strongest asset.

I mean winter is a high average vocalist while Ningning is low-mide average to above average, i personally don't consider that a big gap. I know Ningning is a more rounder vocalist and her low register is strong (not as much as taeyeon or wendy yet) and her mix is quite relaxed, however their supported register in mixed voice is also close, winter has showed consistency with her B4 and while ningning has supported many C5 and C#5 in studio her consistency with those notes live is still to be determined. Anything above that they both sing without correct vocal technique, the only difference is that since winter is more chesty she strains, and since ning is more heady she doesn't sound too bad, but it doesnt mean much if they're both not supporting. Ningning is actually my bais in asespa so my intention is only to try understand the pov of sm.
Ningning suits winter's parts much better than winter, winter's voice is annoying in the high register and mixed registers and she lacks belting but they gave her harder parts outside from her capacity that's why hee voice turns nasal just by hitting c5 and her high notes are so annoying and shrill, and she can't rap her girls rap was a joke but Ningning can do them much better than her, so why not give them to Ningning who's the main vocalist for a reason

I Feel like Liz in IVE is being underrated, but is true that many people talk about her vocals being underrated, so she is not underrated anymore by people, only by the company, is so funny seeing only comments about her and her vocals and how underrated she is but is the only one that people talks in the comments, so i would say she is partially underrated, but mostly by the company. (personal opinion)

They talk about their lines together and soyeon even said that when she makes songs she already has in mind what member would sound best where. Just because Miyeon isn’t singing every line, high notes, etc doesn’t mean that she is mistreated. Minnie sings the most in the albums because her voice is so versatile and she can adapt to different parts of the songs and different concepts for songs. Miyeon sings a lot of the chorus and pre-chorus because that’s where they feel her voice sounds the best and that’s true. Also none of their song are “challenging” anyway so of course she isn’t going to sing challenging parts. Just like their songs don’t always have high notes. Miyeon isn’t mistreated. In the line distribution for their albums she is usually third which makes sense bc soyeon is a main rapper and Minnie is a main vocalist. Of course one main vocalist is going to be higher than the other. No one in any group is going to sing the exact same amount in a song.

Oh my God thank you for bringing Miyeon, it blows me how they refuse to let her be a main vocalist. And honestly it feels like it's a waste for her to even be in the group because more and more of the group is moving away from like vocal-centered songs. Every song just feels like a set piece performance based song rather than something that's going to allow everyone to shine vocally and because most of the other members has a "gimmick" with their singing (or like a stylized way of singing) I feel like they're getting pushed more than me on even though she's the better vocalist overall. To be honest at this point Miyeon needs to invest in a time machine and travel back and join blackpink. I mean she'd only be able to sing once or twice every few years, but hey that's something. 🤣

For idle's case since they have 2 main vocalists and usually minnies voice ends up fitting their title songs more thats the reason why miyeon gets overshadowed.

I've been following (g)i-dle for 3 years now, I've seen the way they work with their music, Soyeon knows which members fit that line in the songs, even for Miyeon she would give her the main parts along with Minnie, Yuqi, Soojin and Shuhua. Miyeon is not pushed aside either, she still on both title tracks and b-sides. For Ningning she's just mismanaged not pushed aside, she still gets more lines

For me NingNing is more mismanaged as not only a main vocal but as a vocalist overall. Yes, she gets a fair amount of lines, but aside from the fact her main strength is her lower register and she's often belting in their songs (which isn't that big of an issue) she rarely gets to sing live
honestly i feel like aespa as a whole are vocally very mismanaged. winter's 5th octave belts are so shrill and piercing but she keeps getting all of them. ningning basically never gets to show off her lower register. kariselle are both pretty good vocalists too and yet they rarely ever get to sing. especially giselle - i know someone who went looking for giselle's singing materials to figure out how good her technique is and giselle has like... nothing. and aespa has only gotten to sing live like once or twice so far. i don't understand why you would have a group that's vocally as strong as aespa and never let them sing live??? even if it's too hard to do live singing with their choreography (which, fair) if i were on their management team, i'd be going out of my way to create extra opportunities for them to sing live. aespa don't even get the recording behind videos in the studio like other sm groups like nct and red velvet do. it's literally a bad marketing strategy to not take advantage of your 4 idols' singing skills.

The Liz situation is so confusing. It's kinda obvious that something happened behind-the-scenes. Not only her lines decreased, she became more quiet in their content and her stage presence faltered as well. She's only the only 'proficient' singer Ive got, with Yujin quite far away from her skills-wise. She got quite a lot of attention for her Ive x Lauv video of After Like (I really recommend it!) and tons of praise on social media, I hope Starship will do something about it because it's laughable.
I get why Winter gets the belts as NingNing doesn't seem to have that much confidence in her upper register while Winter just goes for it but I agree that she also gets the most "showy" lines anyways, I still wouldn't call Ninging mistreated, I hope they will find a better balance though as they are both really good vocalists!
I'm surprised you didn't mention Jihyo vs Nayeon discourse. I agree with your points although some probably won't as Nayeon is the one who usually gets the most lines. Nayeon is the 'voice' of Twice, someone who producers/ general audience think suits Twice sound/image the most. Jihyo always gets good amount of lines, some challening ones, chorus/bridges so I wouldn't call her mistreated as well.
If you watch their festival performances, Liz actually shine and looks fine...

I do agree on Miyeon :" I fall in love with her voice, especially from KDA/Popstar (League of Legend)! In that song, her voice shine without overshadow other singers and whenever I see Ahri, I always remember Miyeon sung the song. She makes the character much more real and live! Her part never failed to make me astonished by her voice. That's why I follow G-ILDE, but sadly she got less line, or line without any punch line that dull out the her voice. I also notice that she got less screen time too, like switch back-and-forth to zoom out her in many of videos. I hope that she get more chances that she deserve because she is excellent singer 😢

I agree with what you said, especially about Miyeon. I'm only a casual kpop listener but (g)i-dle have been the group I gravitate towards the most for a while. Miyeon got great moments in Latata but the last comeback they had where she shined was Dumdi Dumdi imho. Meanwhile Minnie, the other main vocalist, gets the more demanding parts and also the most memorable. Even Yuqi has gotten some main-vocalist worthy moments more recently. I just hope Miyeon will stop being pushed aside because I absolutely adore her voice and I know she has a lot to bring to the group.
She's not being pushed aside her voice is really beautiful and she gets alot of lines in the b sides and also her solo which is out there but as Minnie voice is very experimental they try to use it alot to see what else she can do with it and because yuqi voice is very deep they try to make that shine as well not to mention soyeon unique voice I guess compared to the other three miyeon voice is just kinda normal in kpop and honestly that's not a bad thing

Dreamcatcher have all rounders. Yoohyeon have been improving a lot lately and sua being a sub vocalist is shocking considering how powerful her vocal is. Jiu showed she can sing powerful in their last single "reason" even though she usually goes with the soft vocals. Handong has that elegant voice. She is getting more confident after "Youth With You" and more lines on songs. Gahyeon has improved as well. The main rapper dami can sing too.
With all these members you won't have a problem recognizing the main vocalist. Siyeon is a powerhouse. Her voice fits the rock concept so well.
(Plus: she was a vocalist in a rock band in high school)

But I think the RV team has now realized wendy's rising popularity (too late tho). In their latest comebacks (Birthday and FMR) she got a decent amount of screentime and center time, unlike before (looking at you Peekaboo and Dumb Dumb era among others)

Literally agree with everything you said especially about Miyeon and NingNing. Everytime a person says that Miyeon isn't getting what she deserves in the group or something like that these Stans literally come at you claiming that "she got alot of lines in Dumdi Dumdi!!” Like srsly is has been ages to that, just think if it were Minnie or Yuqi in her position, by now people would've been on Soyeon's throat saying how unfair she is. This just highlights the double standards of the fandom. And honestly it's more about getting memorable parts as a main vocalist rather than singing the whole song...like at least give her a high note or something!

jype producers doesn't know how to work with lia's tone, she has the better tecnique and range, yet the best moments of her voice is when she's singing by herself doing covers on lives or on the lee mujin service. Cheshire for me proved that she is the best in itzy, yeji and chaeryeong sang the chorus too but lia's version is so more stable and with better breath control, also in loco if you listen carefully there a lot of performances where yeji does not sing her full part of the chorus because of her breath while lia sings her entire part in the loco chorus even with them dancing and you can see she has better control.
I think whoever writes Itzy songs doesn’t know how to actually use talented members. The raps are so bad that people actually think Ryujin can’t rap. Hopefully future songs show off the members abilities other than dancing.

I think that people don’t really understand what SM is doing with Ningning. Her mistreatment goes so much deaper than just getting less lines. Wendy is actually a better rapper (flow-wise) than Irene, but it wouldn't be fair in line distribution if she holds 2 main positions. Wendy does take over for Irene's rap lines whenever Irene is absent.

Miyeon has one of my favorite voices in kpop and it's sad to see how Soyeon, although an amazing producer, doesn't really know what to do with her voice, or even Yuqi's voice for that matter. She just keeps giving them the same lines and let's them trade off in the pre-chorus.
With Lia, I think she is being treated as fairly as she can. Her voice just doesn't fit Itzy's sound...And being a main vocal means she can't be given too many specially made for her parts since she would need to share them with with Yeji or Chae at some point.
Ningning is doing fine, her and Winter have very similar skill-sets and deliveries so it's natural they are both going to get a lot of lines. It just feels more visible cause they are in a 4 member group but I don't think a 7 or so second difference is a big deal. The producers seem to like Winter on the high notes more which is their choise.
Jihyo is fine, girl be singing half the song by herself. Rose and Siyeon are also fine.
Wendy, here's a hot take, I never thought that she suited RV's music. Not one bit. It's too quirky, too k-pop-ish. Her voice sounds too western, too 'diva-like' for that kind of sound. Line-wise though, yeah she is being treated great.

the thing with wendy is she can play with her vocal tones a lot. her natural belting voice without any distortion fits the typical western pop ballad/rnb style. but she can play with her voice so much which makes her very versatile. for the most part, their title tracks don’t fit the typical artistic route you would expect from her, but on their rnb tracks, and most bsides, it’s very much showcased.

Yes, Wendy deserves all the love. Yes, RV’s producers are one of the best. But honestly, i think they’re comfy on putting her everywhere, at any level, because she also has the SUPPORT of her vocal line, who are incredible AND distinctive. 3:28 I feel like this has less to do with Soyeon and co not knowing what to do with Miyeon and more to do with Soyeon producing (G)I-DLE's songs using templates. She's got a formula and she's stickin' to it, ladies and gents!! And like, this isn't inherently a bad thing; lots of groups in K-Pop have a formula. The problem comes in when this formula isn't allowed to evolve or the group doesn't switch it up every once in a while. And that's what we're seeing with (G)I-DLE. I was hoping that TOMBOY was a sign that Soyeon was going to get more adventurous with (G)I-DLE's music, but nope!! It was just another formula.

The things that irritates me that IVE title tracks have many hard/difficult parts that they should give at Liz since that's her work there as a main vocalist but instead they give it to sub vocalist
i feel like because most gidle songs have limited singing parts in the chorus, miyeon gets gipped a lot. the only title tracks where she has a chorus are latata, dumdi dumdi and senorita. so clearly, seems like they only use her voice for bright/feminine concepts even though miyeon has such a rich voice. also, having both yuqi and miyeon, idle has some of the best developed lower register vocal lines but soyeon seems to typically only compose songs that are in /her (limited) vocal range. this is not a drag at soyeon at all, since i know she is idle's literal backbone and it's bc of her they even have the level of success they have now, and i'm also happy that the lack of lines hasn't affected miyeon's popularity, given that she's the most popular member domestically, but i really want gidle songs to have a bit more variety vocally so that miyeon and yuqi can have more chances to shine. having said that, i LOVE how miyeon's voice is used in minnie-produced songs! from blow your mind (aka giving miyeon her highest belt within gidle's discography), her chorus and prechorus parts in change, and the chorus and in sculpture especially!! the almost jazzy backing track suits her voice sound so well and adds luxury to the song.

Sm is just pushing winter so much to the point of somehow neglecting the other members talent and capability. She got so much screentime sometimes i can't help it but to think that they just used aespa as stepping stone for her career. If sm will still heavily push winter this year aespa will be like ive. Like wonyoung and the group it will be like Winter and the group. All the members has their own strength they should use it properly like the main lines of aespa was always the second choice despite being the main rapper and vocalists, sm favoritism is always noticable to all of their groups.

I agree with pretty much all of what you've said here. The main things I would add personally (mostly as personal preferences) are that it is a bit more difficult for me to listen to Twice's more recent songs (even though I like the songs) with Nayeon having all/vast majority of the high notes instead of Jihyo or even Jeongyeon. It sounds very shrill most of the time and hurts my ears.. I just don't find it pleasing at all to listen to :/ Same with Winter vs. Ningning - I love Aespa's songs but Winter's high notes are so SHRILL it is physically uncomfortable for me to listen to T_T Her mid range is great to listen to but I wish they would give Ningning the high parts instead since she performs them so much better. Also would love to hear more of Ningnings lower registers in future songs.
On that note - a main "defending" point I see a lot with lead vocal solo stans is "but the main vocal doesn't mean they have the most lines it means they have the most challenging parts" except that isn't really true for like half the main vocals you talked about in this video. Miyeon rarely ever lately gets the most/more challenging parts to sing in (G)-idle title songs and it is instead always given to Minnie (who, technically speaking, is a lead vocalist at best esp. when compared to (G)-idle's original sole main vocal Miyeon), who also gets the heavy majority of the lines as well as some of the most memorable parts even if they are not challenging. I think people also need to remember that while B-Sides are great, the vast majority of K-Pop fans and new listeners heavily favor listening to most title tracks, so the distribution and treatment in title tracks is extremely important as that is the first and most-often-heard style and abilities of said group.
In Aespa title tracks, while for the most part distribution for them is pretty even, Winter definitely has collectively more challenging parts given to her than Ningning does, despite being the main vocal and performing said parts better due to her skill. Same for Jihyo - while she has regressed a bit since early Twice days, she is still Twice's best vocalist and while she does get her fair share of lines, Nayeon still gets more and also gets the most challenging parts as of late. And while she's not a main vocal, I can't even begin to describe the extreme disappointment I feel towards their under-utilization of Jeongyeon's vocals, which are better than Nayeon's (and in my opinion she has a more pleasing tone to my personally).
Idk, one of the "arguments" I hate most from a lot of the youngsters into K-Pop in the current era is "well they give lines according to whose voice suits the songs better" but that's... not how that is supposed to work all the time. The whole point of making a good, solid group is having members with different strengths/weaknesses and PLAYING to said strengths of each member - not just completely or mostly forgetting about someone because "tHeYr'E nOT tHe 'VoIcE' oF tHe gRoUp!!" If a member's voice is that grossly unsuited to their group's songs/sound then perhaps the company should not have placed them in said group to live in the shadows. That's not a viable excuse imo, it's just poor mismanagement and defending said poor mismanagement. Rant over LOL

If I have to be onest (and Ningning is my ult bias, for me ONE OF the best vocalist of her gen) listening Next level, Dreams come true, Savage, and Girls...I really thought that Winter was the main and Ning2 the lead. truth be told, dreamcatcher has 7 incredible all-rounders and siyeon may not always be first place in line distributions, but she always manages to stand out with her magical and powerful voice, mainly because of the high notes and important lines she tends to get. it's practically impossible to imagine a dreamcatcher song without siyeon's voice and that consolidates her identity as a strong main vocalist in the k-pop industry

I do remember the first time i listened to Redvelvet, it was a random listening party and "psycho" played and i was so mesmerized by the blonde girl aka wendy i remember thinking how could anyone have such a beautiful voice. Like you said the best thing about RV producers is that they know how to show off wendy's vocals not just for high notes, i bet people would be so surprised listening to wendy in psycho, butterflies, like water and alter ego.... These four songs give off 4 wendys, she's versatile and she shows it well.
I still remember my amazement when i discovered that Jihyo is main vocalist of Twice not Nayeon or the fact that Nayeon is lead vocalist not main. Jihyo has a distinct voice in Twice since it's rich and has more mature sensual feel rather than the sweet tone that most Twice members have, Jihyo has been always the "belter" in Twice but only recently that her rich voice started to shine.. At least to me. Speaking of mains getting mistreated, It's not okay to give solo album to lead vocalist before the main vocalist...
Just when i was about to comment about ITZY, i noticed that Lia and Yeji are the same as Jihyo and Nayeon... Huh.. Interesting....
You know even if G-idle line distribution got better, it still feels like Soyeon and friends, i've been a casual listener for so long but i listened to the nxde album obsessively and i noticed that the vocal direction of idle is so boring, it's always soyeon giving the spicy catchy part and the rest of the song is the same with members switching parts and no harmonies and no use of the members different tones, gidle's main strength vocally is that they actually sound different and very distinct from each others but they don't know how to take advantage of it. Just imagine how good X-Files and sculpture would've sounded if they used some harmonies. In my opinion, the entirety of the vocal line is mistreated/ underutilized not just the main vocalist.
As for Aespa, while i do agree with the comments that NingNing mistreatment stems from the fact that she's the Chinese of the group. I mean both her and Giselle are the foreigners and they're the ones in the shadow, i also believe it's due to the fact that winter has a "dry" "metallic" "cool" feel to her voice that suits aespa's whole ae concept and songs unlike ningning who have a warm sensual feel to her voice. That's how they sound to my ears personally and tbh i prefer winter's vocals as i said she suits the concept better however ningning really ate "next level" that's the song that shows ningning the main vocalist.
Miyeon has one of, if not, the prettiest voices in 4th gen. Her tone is everything. It can easily add so much more color to any song, yet Cube and Soyeon somehow manage to wash it out completely in almost every GIDLE title tracks. Honestly, Shuhua has stood out more and that's just sad.

About NingNing one thing that should have been mentioned is that the gap in skills with her and winter is (with what we can judge so far) not big at all. And let's not forget aespa does not have "official positions" so i wouldn't be surprised that sm thinks of both as main singers.
This situation actually reminds me a lot of the dynamics of taeyeon and jessica in their earlier years. The gap between them was (around debut time) also not that big and while taeyeon's technique was better she would struggle a lot with really high notes, anything above D5 was given to jessica, even if she was straining them she would handle them better.
aespa definitely had official positions when they debuted but it seems like it doesn‘t matter anymore to them and that‘s good. it doesn‘t limit them to anything. winter getting more than ningning makes sense, ningnings voice is so light and floaty, so many parts in aespas songs would lose impact if ning2 sang them instead of winter

They can't do that aespa just have 4 members the gap between the members is obvious, if they were like 6 or 7 members they can double the main positions. If the main vocal of aespa will be two then just make both Giselle and Karina the main rapper since karina got more lines than giselle.
Aespa has official positions and if you know stuff about vocal technique and ability (or read a lot of things about that from credible sources, if you don't) there is absolutely a decent gap between Ningning and Winter in terms of vocal ability. Winter is a very good vocalist but Ningning has much stronger development in all registers across the board, with a lower register almost on par with Wendy and Taeyeon. Winter strains a LOT in high notes (which is why you can hear that tight and shrill sound) and is best in her mid range, whereas Ningning has much more open and effortless high notes despite her lower register being arguably her strongest asset.

I mean winter is a high average vocalist while Ningning is low-mide average to above average, i personally don't consider that a big gap. I know Ningning is a more rounder vocalist and her low register is strong (not as much as taeyeon or wendy yet) and her mix is quite relaxed, however their supported register in mixed voice is also close, winter has showed consistency with her B4 and while ningning has supported many C5 and C#5 in studio her consistency with those notes live is still to be determined. Anything above that they both sing without correct vocal technique, the only difference is that since winter is more chesty she strains, and since ning is more heady she doesn't sound too bad, but it doesnt mean much if they're both not supporting. Ningning is actually my bais in asespa so my intention is only to try understand the pov of sm.

I think it’s a bit crazy to say that they are mistreated because they aren’t singing every line in a song… way to be dramatic lmaooo! But I think that they are all just fine with what they get.
Main vocal liz had no chorus in after like while visual Wonyoung had all 3, Miyeon have simple not challenging lines in the title tracks while in bsides she gets better but don't really showcase much of her, while unique voice Minnie is constantly in the top 2 lines, yes, they're mistreated because they lack main vocal worthy parts
@@Oliver-uz1fsI can only speak for (G)I-DLE because that’s the group that I Stan. For them it’s not about who has what position in the group, it’s about who fits what part. They talk about their lines together and soyeon even said that when she makes songs she already has in mind what member would sound best where. Just because Miyeon isn’t singing every line, high notes, etc doesn’t mean that she is mistreated. Minnie sings the most in the albums because her voice is so versatile and she can adapt to different parts of the songs and different concepts for songs. Miyeon sings a lot of the chorus and pre-chorus because that’s where they feel her voice sounds the best and that’s true. Also none of their song are “challenging” anyway so of course she isn’t going to sing challenging parts. Just like their songs don’t always have high notes. Miyeon isn’t mistreated. In the line distribution for their albums she is usually third which makes sense bc soyeon is a main rapper and Minnie is a main vocalist. Of course one main vocalist is going to be higher than the other. No one in any group is going to sing the exact same amount in a song.
@@Oliver-uz1fs also to add in most of their b-side tracks miyeon is second and soyeon is near the bottom. So miyeon does sing. Just not the most in title tracks.

Oh my God thank you for bringing Miyeon, it blows me how they refuse to let her be a main vocalist. And honestly it feels like it's a waste for her to even be in the group because more and more of the group is moving away from like vocal-centered songs. Every song just feels like a set piece performance based song rather than something that's going to allow everyone to shine vocally and because most of the other members has a "gimmick" with their singing (or like a stylized way of singing) I feel like they're getting pushed more than me on even though she's the better vocalist overall.
To be honest at this point Miyeon needs to invest in a time machine and travel back and join blackpink. I mean she'd only be able to sing once or twice every few years, but hey that's something. 🤣
I mean Liz in Love Dive was fine. The only thing that needed to change there was " Oh Perfect Sacrifice " from Leeseo. Like why the fuck did she even sing that in the first place ? 💀

i disagree about wendy, i feel like sm could really let her shine more in songs. i’ve stanned rv for 6 years and only in the last couple of years did i truly recognize wendy’s talent, i honestly thought her and seulgi had the same strengths. i feel like she could have more captivating moments in their songs. also i’m glad that liz got to shine more in I Am, even ningning got praised during Spicy era

For idle's case since they have 2 main vocalists and usually minnies voice ends up fitting their title songs more thats the reason why miyeon gets overshadowed.

@@lunarisita26 the difference between miyeon and rosé is that rosé is the one who has more solo songs in the group, always a low number since they're just 3, but being the main vocalist and having the most is kinda okay. miyeon instead is a main vocalist and has the least lines every comeback

I've been following (g)i-dle for 3 years now, I've seen the way they work with their music, Soyeon knows which members fit that line in the songs, even for Miyeon she would give her the main parts along with Minnie, Yuqi, Soojin and Shuhua. Miyeon is not pushed aside either, she still on both title tracks and b-sides. For Ningning she's just mismanaged not pushed aside, she still gets more lines
