It's amazing...
Hey 👋 man how you doing bro perfect piece of art 🎨 nice job 👏 👍 blessings
I would do anything for one of those knives!!!
Nice work, very nice result. When I've done this kind of thing I was lucky enough to have an oxy/acetylene torch nearby. I'd heat the spots where I was going to drill, up to a dull red, then let them cool slowly. It helped with the drilling a bit.
or drill the pin holes before you heat treat. and yes all of us have forgotten to drill the holes before we harden the blade lol.
Or just have carbide bits and it doesn’t matter
@@erikcourtney1834 Good point, maybe just drill bits with the nitride coating would do it.
It's an air hardening tool steel... this would just make the cladding even harder.
@@robsonez ok then, heat a couple spots to red, then put it in a deep tray of lime powder or even dry sand to slow the cooling.
beauriful nakiri
Thanks
.I like a sandwiched steel blade.
The harmon is excellent.
The handless turned out classy not trashy
Thank you for the sharpness show.
It is pricey I hope you sell it quickly to a "keen buyer"
I have to mention, I've never seen D2 as cladding in a san mai. Or in any forge weld. I have to ask, when just heat, and oil quenched, does the D2 come out soft? Or is it still fairly hard?
I find there is a certain irony to sanding a file…. Nice build.
The flashiest forge starting method I've seen so far
Is that acid you dip it in at the end? Looks amazing
Mojhe chahye bohot pasand ayaa
I want one ❤❤❤
Happy people - happy life!
I have to know how you crafted the temperline. It looks like it sanwiched in that manner on the core steel but I can't be sure.
If s not making Wootz steel, pattern weld Damascus I geuessits a gangster Nakiri with an old file sandwiched with some clean metal!!!! Awesome job! P.S. when are you gonna send your boy in NY something? Lol
Damn🔥💪
Fantastic finish on this Nakiri. I’m interested in your choice of metal - was the D2 used purely for appearance or is it softer than the old file ?
D2 is very hard stuff. Typically used in heavy tool and dye applications.
@@JSaltyfabricatorshouldn't san mai have a hard middle layer core and soft outer layer? Honestly I never heard about D2 before and I think file is made of 1095 so which is hard here? I'm pretty much an amateur 😅
Generally yes. D2 is an air hardening steel, and the 1090 core is not. In theory, once the completed billets is quenched in water or oil, the core could be harder than the air hardening steel outer layer. It's risky mixing air hardening and wtr/oil hardening steels together, as they could contract at different rates in the liquid quench and cause cracking. But this man is a master.and knows what he is doing.
I thought D2 was an odd choice myself, seeing as it is a tremendously hard alloy. Like, this stuff is used in very heavy wear industrial applications.
Enjoy the learning process! It never ends.
you are the first knife maker I have seen slicing a fruit. Most just do paper slices. Which knives are typically not for!?
Hey I have a video suggestion. What do you think about making a wootz steel chisel or something like that? Hope this helps the channel.
What stones are you using to sharpen v your knives with. Have exactly the same knife sharpening device, but the stones that came with it suck. The grit ratings are all out of wack on the stones that came with my device.
Entirely confused myself. An air hardening tool steel jacket on a file... why not just use scrap stainless or any non air hardening steel??? But looking at this "nakiri" I'm not surprised at all.
Press machines is a must have when forging idgaf ..
if it's D2 steel and 52100 palanquin steel can you stick it
9:15 I wonder why you didn’t etch it before you made the handle. Doesn’t the acid mess it up?
❤❤❤
Do you think it’s possible to make a wootz stainless steel alloy?
Do you do orders like I send you materials and you can make a knife out of it? I have a bunch of pieces from an old fuel line and a crap ton of nails I have pulled out of pallets. I think you could easily make a knife.
😎 👍🏼
Beautiful work as always. How did you get that wavy pattern along the edge? Did acid create that?
This is lamination line, where less chromium steel in the core reacted with acid.
@@HaryWalker Interesting. Thank you.
knife verry goog you
5mm thick stock with an air hardening jacket?!?! Interesting choice of steels.
Amigo i like your video's a lot, the one request or suggestion that i would offer......is......talk, talk, with your voice, narrate, voice-over, anything.......so people like me can "listen" to your details WHILE watching:::::))))))) thanks!!!
hi , how did you get such a nice hamon on the blade!
It's not a hamon you see, but the etched high carbon steel of the file which is sandwiched between two slabs of D2 which falls close to stainless category. So the file steel takes the etching easier than D2, thus the contrast. You can see the layers on the spine as well.
Blue gem
👍👍👍👍
D2 would etch dark as well
what kind of drill bit is that?
how much would it be to buy this or one of your knifes I wanna get one for father's day for my dad
This is a nice Nakiri. I have 3 questions though.
- Why D2 as outer layer material?
- Did you normalize it? At least you neither showed nor mentioned.
- Why drill the rivet holes in the hardened blade and not before?
What is the yellow liquid you used at last ?
I would like to purchase your knives how can we make it happen...
I'd love to see a blade made similar to this, but with two pieces of your ~woots~ steel sandwiching a plain steel piece.
