Some of the easy composits were fiber re-enforced nylon and that is strong, however this is most likely plastic and when it gets cold will be even more brittle... Great review!
Thanks for another informative review. In a pinch it can be handy, but I can't see it lasting too long in every day use. I agree, best to pay a bit more and get one you can use with confidence.
Seriously with the coupon it’s only 12 dollars, considering the price it’s actually not that bad . It actually seems better than some of the knockoff brands that cost twice as much . And yes there is no comparison to the actual military shovel but I wouldn’t expect that considering the price point . I have these in both of my vehicles and have used them and they work just fine . And If it happens to to break no big deal , I’ll just go buy another one ..😊
Don't forget that with the head and D handle folded at a 90° you can also use it as a makeshift seat. The ones you used when you served were probably the original AMES E-Tool. This cheap import looks like it might work a little better than the common AMES style knockoff you see at Walmart because the Gerber design seems to alleviate some of the potential issues of loosening that you get with a poorly made copy of the AMES design. I still wouldn't put much stock in it, but with the coupon it's probably one of the better options in a cheap import for $10-$12.
@@snapringchronicles3020 Since the screw mechanism tightens against the head and handle, it'll be easier to really tighten it down well. I'm just assuming that a cheap copy of the Gerber design should be a bit better based on the nature of the design, the typical cheap copies of the AMES design are always hard to tighten up and loosen up easily.
Well I suppose it's better than nothing but I think I'll pass. Those plastic threaded parts don't inspire my faith in its durability.......Also it makes you wonder why they even bother putting a serration like that on there, I guess the good thing is that it's so dull you won't accidentally cut yourself on the serration......Hopefully you got the Free Flashlight, they've been ending emails about it all weekend.

Yeah there is some really strong composites out there but I agree I don’t think this is one of them👍

Yeah in this case “you get what paid for” really applies.

This would be a soft ground or stuck in snow shovel.
Definitely not for digging ditches.
It might dig ‘A’ ditch but I doubt many👍

Cool👍..I didn’t know the Gerber was a design improvement.

Looks neat but all that plastic sounds like a bad idea to me
Yeah it sure doesn’t inspire confidence

Ha! Yes I got the free flashlight. I must have like over 20 of those things
Get a Cold Steel shovel. Built like a tank.
I have that one. Not foldable but a good piece of zombie apocalypse kit 👍
@@snapringchronicles3020 I have the cold steel one and many USGI folding ones. The cold steel doubles as a real weapon.
Yeah mine came razor sharp
I’ve seen worse build quality, but this is not a heavy duty unit for sure.
