I used to work here (Bukit Young Goldmine) after my form 6 in SMK Lake nearby. Our task was to come and take the soil, sand and rock sample from this area last time in 1993 until early 1994.. I still remember, it was very very deep. From the edge of the lake above during the mining activities was still active last time, when all the gold mine machineries, big lorry or truck went down below, they all look very tiny. It is not a natural lake but is due to the impact of mining that carried out around 1898 to 1921 which operate by Tai Parit Mine. It has a depth of about 91m (300ft) where was drained again in 1990 when a mining company wants to extract gold ore from the sides and bottom of the lake. On 7 June 1979 about 12.50 pm, a bus belonging to the Bau Transport Company with 67 passengers plunged into the scenic Tasik Biru. 29 pupils and 1 trainee teacher were drowned. .Only 37 pupils, the driver and the conductor were rescued. Obviously, the bus was overcrowded, overloaded and out of control. Anyway, it was the only main public transportation mode in Bau during that time. There was a Military Base about 50 to 100 meters nearby last time during 1970's to 1980's before it was closed and moved to Penerissen Kuching area. The mining area has turned into a lake which become a picnic spot by the crowd. Nowadays, this are is a tourist attraction. Roxy Group is one of the company manning this venture..
