While I do appreciate that they’re at least willing to keep Zara still 10 toes deep in his initial opinion because he really didn’t do anything wrong per se. I think my biggest problem with the post exchange really just boils down to “ he realized how strong the Mc is and now he has a greater respect” Maybe that’s just me being tired of the Mc problems being solved by “ Mc op therefore everyone wrong” logic because past that it really doesn’t feel like makoto did much else to really give him a reason to give him slack in the future

Justice for Tomoe! Zara wasn't wrong during their encounter, but ironically, he was also being narrow-minded and immature at the time. He couldn't see a world where someone with power wouldn't use it like a tyrant anymore, because that's not the sort of world he lived in. And so, he made the mistake of confusing what Makoto wouldn't do with what he couldn't do. This was an excellent follow-up to that encounter where it isn't taken back, but more perspective is added.
Yup, the dude could single-handedly take over the kingdom, if he wanted. He's just choosing to do things by their own rules, at least until it becomes absolutely unreasonable to deal with.
I already see people saying there dropping the show because "OP MC isn't killing everything" or "Human MC isn't saving all the humans". Reading the comment section has me wanting to end my life. The amount of braindead logic I've heard is insane. Such as people not understanding characters. I unironically saw a comment saying Mio killing Ilumgand is extremely out of character and made her especially evil... As If she hasn't been a menace to society since day 1. The first scene we've seen of her was chasing someone to eat them alive. Leave it to anime fans to have the attention spans of goldfish.(*BTW I know that the anime adaption has some issues leaving stuff out of the source material. While that's legitimate criticism that isn't what people are complaining about. They are just being babies because there aren't big explosions, screaming, blood, and death)
This was funny at first, but now it s just sad. I see so many comments ranting abt plotholes or asking why Makoto doesnt do xyz, when the answer was literally in the episode. Like, not even something nuanced like knowing the character, literally an exposition dump spelled out for them
This just goes to show that anime fans can't handle plot exposition or world building. Since the same thing is happening with The Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime. While there is valid criticism to be made about pacing and source material adaptation. Most of the time its people bitching that the main character isn't just overpowering every obstacle in his path. But if that did happen you know that they'll then complain about the lack of story and character development. You can't win with anime fans. It's unfortunate.
Lol Zara and Patrick's relationship is funny, I was not expecting Patrick to wrap himself around him like that to Zara at that age. It was interesting to see Zara be so surprised by this side of Makoto, he's learnt what kind of power he truly holds and was not able to see it until he was faced with this situation. I do wonder what will happen between Zara, Makoto and Mio since Mio is still unhappy with what he said to Makoto and how he made Makoto feel. But at the same time, I think Zara will probably be more welcoming and collaborative with Makoto after learning what he has. I don't think Makoto would be happy with Mio if she let Zara die now that he knows Patrick and Zara are very close.
I agree, I think it's easy to look at Aqua and Eris and just see them as two joke characters, forgetting that they are actually really powerful. When someone can cast a barrier that even Mio admits will be difficult to break through, that is no light weight magic. It was also interesting Eris pointing out the 'collaborator' while Tomoe was talking about Mio dealing with a 'problem' - the same person? Will Makoto get there in time to see Mio dealing with it? This was a really good episode.
Now, I can see where Zara was coming from by being hard on Makoto. Like what Rembrant said to Zara, they started with ideals similar to Makoto, but it was a tough ride to get where they are now. So, when Zara sees Makoto, he just wanted Makoto not to make the same mistakes or take the path that he did in the past.
It was nice to see Mondo in action, I don't think we have seen much of him this season, I almost forgot he is Aqua and Eris' master lol. This headmaster was about to send the students to their deaths and potentially would have caused more if any student mutated instead of helping himself , I am so glad Aqua and Eris locked up the school. I think the headmaster is one of, if not the most annoying characters in this arc.
Well, you need a character like the Headmaster so that there's a clear comparison between an unreasonable person and a reasonable one. Like the headmaster being harsh to the students for his own self benefit, whereas Merchant Zara being harsh with Makoto for understandable reasons.
Believe it or not, i think the Rembrandt and zara talk, was longer than that in the WN source. There's still various backstory, that hasn't been told yet.
I loved today's episode. The Zara & Rembrant moment was great and really showed a how far back they go. It really makes sense why Zara was annoyed with Makoto. He's got all of this strength and all of these resources, and he could do so much more as a merchant. Zara probably sees Makoto just wasting his potential as a merchant with how laid back he has been with his store. Sort of a (really) tough love kind of thing.
LN reader here: Makoto is a unique characterin that, until you understand him, he comes across as 1 dimentional and passive. However, once you understand exactly what he is, the anime takes on an unbeatable tension.

Nah, He was a douche-canoe even in the WN, but it was needed as you stated Mokoto is a terrible merchant, especially in that world. The core values are just too different. He was written to be so as well as to reap sweet justice out of his utter powerlessness when the situation reverses. Mokoto at the point of first meeting needed to be humbled a but to put thing in perspective for whats to come. This is a classic case of our MC getting what he needs when he needs it. If it was all sunshine and raindows, then not only would the last season closing song be moot, but, he would not have the thought process to pull off what is to come. This is a favorite WN of mine and the anime, though cutting important details does a good enough job of conveying the point if not the total purpose of his actions. I'm just really curious to see where this season calls it quits because the build up was so lengthy that I doubt we will get all of the changes to come. I won't do the spoiler thing but, we might get some cliffhangers leaving us thirsting desperately for season 3.
Yeah, Makoto learns from his mistake. After this episode, whenever he said things like "I wil lgrant you a wish" or something like that he always make sure that all of his followers are present. He felt guilty to Tomoe lol.
I'm sorry i love your reviews but I'm sad you didn't mention the set up for the next 5 episodes because the Demons are attacking the the Royal Capital as the King found out after the Communications was restored and where u think it might go from there but as some one who read the Light Novel IM HYPED FOR NEXT EPISODE!!! trust me everything this core was an appetizer for what's to come .. and i cant wait to see it animated :)
Great episode, especially with Zara. They truly proved why he was angry at makoto in this episode (they did before but still) and I like how he’s having a change at how he views the situation. Especially that conversation with Rembrandt, very good. And it seems we’re getting to the beginning of the big battle next episode. This is gonna be good.
I think the season as a whole will be fun to go back and binge after it is finished. Going back to season 1, there will be blood. They are talking about a collaborator and Mio is going to take care of them. They are trying to keep him from the wetwork. He will get involved
This entire series consists of him making people read while he walks around doing absolutely nothing. Then his subordinates wrap everything up for him in secret & he doesn't even care enough about them to do anything relevant for them.
It totally unfair for Tomoe 😢, she should have participated with the others, and Zara Patrick business talk was a odd welcoming scene. I mostly surprise that the shity Goddess hasn't try anything yet like she did from the last season, and the church faction what the heck are they up to? Hopefully not being idiots plotting against Makoto we already got a list of foolish people who didn't learn, and more to come
He is not a merchant but this man can and is the best in the market due to him being able to sell good stuff There are a lot of animes now and days where anime feel like it goes by to fast or just feel like it last a hour
I'm so behind... I don't even know why... I just can't get myself to binge it but I'll do it soon... I may watch a few episodes tonight as I'm like 5-6 behind already tbh. But I know it's gonna be fire to watch
Rembrandt is presented in such a sympathetic light here compared to the manga that it can be a bit jarring. A part of me wish they didn't skip that part but at the same time, it would've made Rembrandt a little less likeable.

The funny thing is Zara is absolutely right, and Makoto was saved by the Demon's terrorist attack. With all the goodwill generated by saving the city Makoto will be able to politically overwhelm the Merchants Guild. Without it, Zara could of run Makoto right out of business because Makoto wouldn't hand over the secrets Zara was demanding. Now Makoto is a big shot in the rebuilding of Academy City with all of the city leaders eventually sucking up to him. And 3 leaders in the Hyuman Alliance know first hand that Makoto is a major power, that isn't under their control. Makoto is a threat and an opportunity.
Makato needs someone to lose against, in a straight up fight he’s the most powerful being in that world already by a long way (Root can’t even scratch him at this point) it makes sense to use his inexperience against him.
I hasd a friedn say tuskimichi is a 2/10 and slime is a 0/10. and tsukimichi is only 2/10 cuz it has a banger op. i know people hav opnions but slime and tsukimichi are not a 0 out of 10
dude, you are so wrong its not even funny. the thing about makoto is that, the guy is NOT NORMAL. go back and rewatch THAT episode of season 1. the guy is a literal psychopath(as in someone who lacks emotion), the way he is now, is because he has fooled himself into beliving he has emotions. and is trying VERY HARD to not let that mask break. the series does an amazing job at hinting at it. but it will become more obvious as the series goes by. like i said, this is something that the show already told the viewers, but most ignored because its a small segment of an episode that has other things going. do not think he is like those generic MCs. Makoto is not who you think he is. not by a long shot.

I am just glad that the Light Novels are finally getting translated to English.
The web novel is available translated since at least last year when I read it. Idk if there any differences between Web and light novel.
